Powdercoating OEM PP wheels - Black or Bronze?
Hey y'all! Greetings from Dallas, TX!
I'm going to be getting my OEM PP wheels powder coated since I don't like their gunmetal/antracite finish on my silver BRZ. Just trying to get a feel for what everyone thinks - should I go black or bronze? (Excuse the poor Photoshop edit.) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3c92c3_c_d.jpg |
Gold. I bought bronze winter wheels because i was afraid of the gold popping out too much. It doesn't.
|
Bronze team. Black just kind of blends in with the tire and shadow and looks undefined to me.
|
team Bronze because black looks terrible with brake dust
|
I think the black would look better even though I voted for bronze. I think the photoshop makes the black kit look as good.
|
If they'll come out as on picture go for bronze - they look awesome
|
Black is the choice for me on lighter colored cars. Bronze looks best on black IMO.
I recommend having the wheels coated with ceramic or similar product to assist with cleaning. Be careful about wheel cleaners as well. The finish is durable, but any amount of cleaner left on can cause a glossy finish to permanently haze. Satin finish is probably the way to go with powder coating. |
black is useless on wheels. Have to zoom in to see what wheel it is lol. Just hides the design completely.

Mine are all black. It's ok...I see your point. This looks good. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/aXkl7NWbKZg/maxresdefault.jpg |

Ya, I agree with you. By highlighting the exterior rim it does a lot for the wheels. I bought mine dirt cheap because i couldn't afford the ones I wanted lol |

Doubt it, I avoid T.O. whenever possible ;) |
The series yellow has gloss black PP wheels.
I personally think champagne is under-rated, so that's why I ordered my Rotiforms in a champagne custom finish. https://i.imgur.com/DN0qx9Z.jpg |
Sneak peak! Will get them mounted this week :)

Any full car pics yet???
|
still think gold would be better ;)
|
Yeah the bronze look better, good choice. Black wheels are becoming pretty common these days.

Finally got a decent pic of them on. It's a very dark bronze. I love it! @xenarc @Dirty Harry @Jonboy73

You almost make me want to run the OEM wheels for my street setup |

Yes, I have 20mm H&R Trak+ spacers all around with RCE "Yellow" springs. |
Spacers make stock wheels better. 20mm front / 25mm rear.

Gold wheels tend to make any car look better. The medium bronze on these is nice and should play off the silver well. |
Bronze is actually a great look. I don't know if it goes with silver, but I'm thinking if we do rims for the wife's black Q5 then maybe we will go with bronze

I originally thought it would look too glossy since I wanted a satin/matte finish, but I actually love it now after seeing it finished. It's also very easy to clean as result of the (glossy) clear coat. |

Silver on silver can be a tough match and everyone's doing black wheels now. I've seen gold too but thought it was too bright/flashy. I saw bronze and loved the photos, especially since it's a subtle compromise between black and gold. |
Yeah they came out great and the color works with silver.

Sure, the wheel might look "dirty" all of the time, but the contrast should give enough difference to look good. Oh, and yes, some powder coats do require a (powder) clearcoat topper coat. The clear coat should be as tough as the color. Look at it this way, it is one more layer to protect the color. Are you going to apply a wax or sealant of some kind to them to help them stay clean or at least making them easier to clean, i.e. just be able to wipe them with a rag vs. using wheel cleaner? |

I'll be doing a Sio2 type wheel coating soon. That should help with cleaning and brake dust. |
