Cool BRZ experience, today

Over a month ago, a road rager hit my car. Between the shop's schedule and my work it has been more than a month since I could drive my car. I've been driving various rental cars and my wife's car in the meantime.

So when I got in my car, this morning, it felt really weird! But within the first 10 minutes I got to fall in love the BRZ all over again.

When I sat down in the car, it felt really strange. Within 10 minutes I was wondering how I had even managed to drive those other cars. Instead of balancing up on chair, having to work to stay in place while I operate the controls, in the BRZ I fit perfectly into a seat that holds me in place, and everything I need is exactly where it should be.

And when I started to drive away, I thought, "ugh! it feels so rough and mechanical." Within 10 minutes I was thinking "wow! it feels so direct and mechanical!"

It was really amazing to see how much my perspective had shifted, and how easily it shifted back. But it does explain why our cars aren't more popular than they are. It really is a different animal, and you have to spend some time in it to understand it and love it.

I know exactly what you mean. I never thought it'd be possible to miss an object, but I do miss this car and when I'm away from it for several days, I literally crave driving it. Especially if I've been driving some other humdrum.

Well said.
The 86 platform is definitely an acquired taste, however once used to it a very addictive experience. I look forward to every drive.

I only drive her on the weekends. I put on over a hundred miles a day to work and back. Daily driving a Colorado just doesn't cut it! lol! But, on the good side, I get that feeling every Saturday afternoon! Sheer BLISS!

Very nice.. it’s the same feeling when I get into my Supra after I drive the other toys. Old 90s car feeling of it being loose etc initially and then a few mins later I realize why I love it so much.

I have been warned myself not to drive fast since there are so many cops, and yet I drive over 85mph in 65 speed limit (I cover 20 miles in 15 minutes). I don't even feel that I am driving fast. I like this car so much so that I hate my other SUV (Honda Pilot). Please enlighten me how to drive slow? TIA.

i take the routes most infested with stop lights, and limit myself to a maximum of 2 gear changes at all times.

Thank you brzcountsright for your post.

I sold my rapidly disintegrating 2001 VW Jetta for $275 and purchased a used 2017 BRZ series.yellow (#1213) with less than 5000 miles on it. Loved it.

After about 5 months, a young fellow decided he'd turn left into a driveway on one side of the apex of a hill while I was approaching the apex from the other side; had time to move the wheel to the left, :burnrubber:
but more or less T-boned him squarely between the front and rear passenger doors, my air bags did not deploy.

The crumple design of the BRZ pushed the impact into the RF tire. I felt the hard stop but nothing more. It took my insurance company about three months to process and finally declare it a total loss. Although I had no fault in the accident, I lost about $2000 out of pocket.

After several months I found another used 2017 series.yellow (#1148) and had a similar experience as brzcountsright upon my return to the cockpit. I commute 30 mi each way for work and the BRZ consistently tilts the intolerable to a fun experience (admittedly I now approach that hilltop with extra caution though).

Great story glad you got your car back. I honestly felt the same way when I test drove mine. The whole raw, mechanical, kinda rough feel. Totally not what I expected. It did take a bit to get used to, especially coming from an E90 335i. A couple days later, I was hooked. I would not change a thing about the driving experience. I am 100% addicted and in love with this thing lol It's perfect

As you know, 290 has been opened up and lanes have been extended from 2 to 5. It was a nightmare driving on this freeway and now all are driving at 70 and me 85 or twice 110. Shhhhhhh don't report it.

A couple years ago I hit a deer and nearly totaled my FR-S. For about 1 1/2 months I had to use a giant Chevy Impala for a rental and remember hating the damn thing. I would check in at the shop every week. Luckily for me, it was out in Marble Falls in here in Texas and there is a wonderful windy road which takes me there from North Austin. When I finally got it back, the sheer joy and pleasure of having it fit me like a glove and the tightness of the drive on the road home was insane. I'm glad you got her back and was able to relive that honey moon sensation!

I know exactly how you feel! I drove a rental Jeep Grand Cherokee from Ontario CA to Denver CO, and then back within 2 days. After 2k miles of driving that Jeep, and then driving in the FRS, it made me realize how awesome/fun it is to drive an FRS.

I think that I might have had a little too much fun because I got pulled over in the FRS the same day that I got back from that trip..

That's right lol I went up to Superior Subaru in Jersey Village for something and man I'd love to have 290 as part of my daily commute
