*36mpg mixed*Visconti Tuning Stage1 candidate*Day 5*

First off i want to give a big thank you to John and Visconti Tuning for their hard work and contributions to the FRS/BRZ community.
Emailed and called john this morning to see if i can be one of the lucky members to test out the ecutek stg1 flash. I happen to be
near the route John takes home so he stopped by and we chatted for a little while. We got in my car and John asked me to drive my
car around for a little while on the stock tune. After that we parked the car and John started the flash. After the flash was done he
asked me to start the car and take her for quick run around the area. I was not really expecting anything crazy just a little more kick
in the car and holy S*** was i in for a surprise. As soon as i took her out the parking lot and tap the gas this thing kicked A$$.
The torque dip was nearly gone, and there was no hesitation this car just wanted to go and revving her to 7500+ rpms never felt so
good. If you love your car now wait until you get a tune. SIMPLY AMAZING! We floored the car for about 10-15mins
(missed a shift on one of the runs (lol), probably scared the crap out of John since i was pushing about 60-80mph each run)
and my gas barely even moved. The difference in this flash is night and day.
As a test, i will be filling up the car and running the car normally to see if this tune results in better gas mileage since
flooring the car barely even made the gas meter move. I will be updating this with thread daily with results and pictures and
once the test is done i will post videos and test runs with the tune. Stay Tuned
Richie

Sounds awesome. Are you really thinking you can drive the same as before with that extra power and throttle response? Hehehe :) it would be too tempting for me.

its funny you say that because John asked me the same question in the car lmao. I know its going to hard but for the sake of the test i will be a good tester and really take the test seriously..but after that i know im going to go crazy. gonna post 0-60 runs once the test is done:thumbup:

i cant wait to do this!

Spaceywilly 08-01-2012 08:41 PM

Nice! I think I'll have to make the drive down to ct to get this.

UncleFester 08-01-2012 08:44 PM

Sounds good.

What other mods do you have?

Like Tainen said, your enthusiasim does not seem to translate to more miles per gallon. :) Driving "normally" means like a grandma or ?

Car is completely stock! and my enthusiasm is just so high becuase i really wasnt expecting this flash to make this big of a difference, its like a whole new car for me..but unfortunately i will drive like a grandma for a whole tank to really put up some reliable data not only for us FRS/BRZ owners but for the tuners as well.

awesome to hear that! Will you be dynoing the car in the near future?

Yes i will. Looking to team up with john and see if we can take the car for some dynoing

brichard0625 08-02-2012 12:43 AM

So i decided to take a quick run in my car and also let me brother take a drive to test the difference..dude didnt want to give me my car back. The car has so much more throttle response now, and the torque dip does feel better and the lag is pretty much gone. Tomorrow i will be filling up the car and starting MPG test.

Didn't know you could flash gearing.

Probably raised the redline making the effective range of the gear longer.

Guessing about 7600 or 7700 redline would let you reach 63mph

No problem - I just happen to be going thru a toll

industrial 08-02-2012 10:39 AM

What did you raise redline to? Is it still making power up there?

Any chance to work with an auto yet?

Kuzuri 08-02-2012 10:56 AM

watching!

Beardo 08-02-2012 12:07 PM

So all this talk of MPG John, What do you hope/expect to be the outcome from the flash other than the increase in HP/torque now? I assume you've tinkered with the direct injection maps and are expecting some significant gains?

Flat Black VW 08-02-2012 12:10 PM

Sounds Awesome, Super excited

ultra 08-02-2012 12:20 PM

This is interesting stuff. If we could get an Access Port style DIY flashing setup from ECUtek...much win will follow.

Rampage 08-02-2012 12:30 PM

Sounds really promising.

*day 1* Okay so let the games begin! Today i filled her up with shell 93 vpower and she took 9.005 gallons to fill up. Had to go on a little drive to meet up with my ex girlfriend and that was a 37mile trip. Trip was about 15% city 85%highway and i was stuck in traffic for about 15 mins. Average speed was about 32mph(this is due to being stuck in traffic) throughout the trip and highest speed was 62mph with highway traveling speed from 55mph-60mph. Highest rpm was 3101.2. Temp was 93.2F.
Quick Driving Impressions I dont know if its me but the car does seem to drive a bit smoother after the tune. Theres really no hesitation anymore when climbing from 1.5k to 3k, and actually felt pretty good being stuck in traffic doing the little stop and go. Posting up pics of odometer, avg mile first trip, 1st trip mileage. I will not be using the avg mpg trip to calculate mpg at the end of this test but just posting it as reference everytime i update for you guys.

Android Torque App which was ran throughout the whole trip which is where i got the numbers i provided for you.
App is pretty reliable and i will run everytime i take a trip so i can provide better info you guys. i did block off a
few numbers only because i wasnt sure i was allowed to provide that info to you guys as a protection to the tuner.

Thats because i turned the car off and put it in accessory so i can take pictures because when u leave the car on the avg mpg drops like 0.1 every 5 secs that car sits in idle

i had purchased a new one like a week before i got the car. I got a vgate mini v1.5 and it works so much better than the old elm 327 i use have. i can run everything on faster communication and it syncs up so much faster now. also wanted a mini because when i saw where the port was in FRS i knew it wud be in the way of the gas pedal so i wanted something that didnt stick out as much

mechaghost 08-02-2012 05:34 PM

does the vgate mini v1.5 work with iphone apps as well?

Not sure to be honest with you. I remember reading some where that there is an app for iphone through cydia that can use the vgate/elm 327. But i dont remember where i read it at.

*day1 update* Had to take another drive this time to Manhattan to pick up a friend and put on a few more miles for the test.
Driving Impressions : car seems to be getting great gas mileage on steady speeds so far the best numbers my dash has ever read. Drive was about 15%city and 85% highway again but this time no traffic accept when running the test to go home again. Average speed was 39.4mph and highest speed was 60.9mph with speed ranging from 45-55mph(driving a little bit slower because the cops were out at every corner)highest rpm was 2690(shifting this time when the car told me to shift) and temp out side 93.2f with the highest value at 96.8f.

Android Torque data. Had to take a snapshot while driving only because phone was about to die and didnt want to lose the data but it was about 2 mins before i ended my drive so no big deal.

Visconti 08-02-2012 11:30 PM

I would be happy with 5 MPG.

on my way home form the dyno I did a lot of data logging and I found places for HUGE improvement on top of what i've done.

I went thru the gears only a few times and kept speed @ 75mph.

I got 30MPG and wasn't impressed.

Yea if my calculations are right i think your tune will be getting around 5mpg+. Only reason why i'm driving the way i am right now is because this is the way i've been driving on my last two fill-ups only because i was still breaking the car in. So i wanted to drive at the same pace so that the data can be a lot more reliable and we will be able to tell if there was an increase in mpg. I've been using the torque app every drive so we can use it as guide and to show the consistency in every trip.

Loving the sound of this...Cant wait too see all the improvements coming out of this tune.

Gregory Gawaran 08-03-2012 03:20 AM

All I can say is wow... 40.2?? Seriously??? When I set it to cruise control on a drive that was 95% highway the best I got was 34.6 and that was at 70-75mph most of the way

No traffic, cruising on the highway at low speed, not too difficult to get. 70-75 is already too fast to get really good gas mileage. Just sitting at 60mph in 6th gear should be around 40mpg. I don't think the tune has much to do with it :P

Gregory Gawaran 08-03-2012 04:47 AM

When I cruise at 65, best I get is 34... and thats everyday I go to work with no traffic, so there is alittle more to this tune. The drive to work is about 20% city 80% hwy... so I give a bit of credit to the tune if thats what he is really hitting.
