Defi boost gauge will go in the air vent, and with the Ecutek bluetooth I rigged up an Ipad to run a digital gauge display. I also want to get a AFR and Oil temp/pressure gauge for the A-pillar.

Looking good so far! High-quality parts and that wrap color looks so good!

What else is coming after the turbo kit?

Thanks Sam! Thinking Brakes next; then Aero, then any other weight savings stuff I could do. I have the Tein Flex Z Coils right now and they drive really good but I still need to do sway bars and get some more front camber. I would like to do a roll bar and some lightweight seats. But I really just want to drive the piss out of it. And maybe take a long cross country road trip!

... The RE-71Rs are mounted up and ready for this weekends AutoX! But of course the forecast calls for 90% of thunderstorms.

Some shots with the new wheels/tires on-

Picked up a Tanabe catless front pipe and PLM overpipe to complete my exhaust. I’ve got the TRD catback.

Was going for a more lightweight exhaust and something a little louder than the TRD. Picked up the Tanabe Medalion Concept G Single Exit. My initial impressions are it sounds less rumbly than the TRD but more aggressive and louder in a good way. At 22lbs vs the TRd at 33lbs, it felt significantly lighter. I really love how it sounds!

From the AutoX this weekend. Perfect day and had a blast driving this guy with the stg 2 e85 tune. But this was the last race with the oft.. It’s back to the original tune so I can unmarry the oft for the new Ecutek software/

My stock brakes are getting replaced with the
DBA T3 4000 Front and rear rotors
DBA street pads
Stoptech front and rear stainless brake lines
Motul 600 fluid
APR wheel studs
I'm still waiting on the rear rotors and pads...

Conman 06-17-2019 06:30 PM

For brakes I wanted a slight upgrade over oem since my pads and rotors are due for replacement. A couple of my wheel studs are getting stripped so I got the APR studs as I will be taking on/off my autoX wheels somewhat often. For pads I got the DBA sp500 street pads for daily driving/autoX and got a set of Hawk Hp+ that I could swap in before a track session.

Clipdat 06-17-2019 11:09 PM

Great exhaust choice, love mine. Interested to hear how yours sounds with the turbo.

Conman 06-18-2019 09:46 PM

^Yeah, I Loved how the cat-back sounded with just the UEl headers and stock front pipe! It has a great tone, Screams when your wot,but quiet at idle. And it likes to make a little pop shifting from 1st to 2nd... I will post some sounds clips after the install!

Clipdat 06-20-2019 02:02 AM

Haha, a "little" pop? If I shift from 1st to 2nd at 5,200 rpm it makes a loud huge firecracker pop! I have stock header and catless front pipe.

Conman 06-20-2019 06:48 PM

I'm guessing it will be louder once I install Tanabe the catless front pipe :party0030:... So it was brought to my attention that the DW injectors and fuel pump are not a good choice and they have been known to be faulty. I've jumped ship on those and ordered the Full Blown Walbro 485 Pump kit, and the Injector Dynamics ID 1050X's instead. Hopefully I can return the DW's or at least sell them as they were never installed or even opened.

This next week I will hopefully post up some progress. The clutch is going in at the same time. Thinking I will have to complete the break in period before the first tune revision?

The turbo was hitting the fan shroud so I ended up ordering the Mishimoto Slim fans and decided to just do the radiator at the same time. Mostly because I do want to track the car and I do want to take it on a long cross country road trip out to see my buddy in California and maybe do a track event out there with him... So its now getting installed. The turbo blanket is touching the fan still even with the new radiator and shroud. I'm thinking now about heat management. I want to wrap the down pipe and any electrical connections and hoses that could get melted...

Conman 06-30-2019 04:41 PM

Got some heat wrap for the down pipe and the electrical fan connector and oil line after seeing close they sit to the hot parts

WC-BRZ 07-02-2019 02:12 AM

How is this beast coming along? Had a chance to get any miles on it post install? Also curious about whether everything is wrapped up around the hot parts as you mentioned above. The turbo blanket touching the fan is definitely a bit odd considering you have a thinner, aftermarket rad (if I'm not mistaken).

Looking forward to your next update 👍

Thanks! Getting pretty close. I got the aem aft gauge but wasn’t really sure how to wire it up to the ecu for tuning. But then after asking on another fourm. People said the aem anaolog sensor is crap and not worth connecting to the ecu for tuning. Rather I’m going to use the stock wideband sensor for the tune and just use my gauge installed so I can monitor the afr easily. I sent Delisious tuning an email asking what they would prefer to tune with but havent heard back... Clutch is all installed and I think just the Aos system is left before tuning. What’s the advantage/disadvantage to a custom dyno tune?

Did DT ever get back to you about the use of AEM’s sensor? I’m about to buy their failsafe gauge.

Huge thank you to James at HRI tuning, He was able to get me an emergency base tune for the FRS literally on the spot before he jumped on a air plane today. Car will be running tomorrow. Thank you to Impulse Performance! They did the whole install on the build and have been hard at work on this for over a month!

well not looking good... First start of the car resulted in massive clouds of burning oil. The AOS wasn't installed correctly but im not sure if thats the only issue going on... What eles could cause it to burn tons of oil at idle? Are the oil lines hooked up correct? Is the turbo just broken? its brand new...

Conman 07-20-2019 11:38 PM

Honestly after the nightmare dealing with Delicious tuning; and now this Im ready to just move on to something else. I just wanted to make this car faster instead of buying something eles but im ready to be done with this.

This was just tough to read - sorry you have to go through this.

Firstly, what happened with delicious tuning?

Secondly, the minute I read your earlier post above about your car being at the tuning shop for a month, red flags went up and I wanted to ask how come a turbo install is taking that long? I didn't ask as I figured it may have been there due to some other work involved as well...care to elaborate what happened with the shop?

Switching to another platform may not be the answer...this just seems to be a mismanaged turbo install :(

WC-BRZ 07-21-2019 02:19 PM

Ok, that really is very unfortunate. No need to get rid of the car yet - in fact, I'd say you should contact @ATL BRZ and check in with him regarding your JDL install.

Check his build thread on here and he also has YouTube videos of his install. On YouTube just search him under "Ian Barton".

Try to contact 86speed also as they usually seem to be quite helpful.

Perhaps even @CSG Mike may be of help here and while he doesn't have the JDL kit, he does have a front mount kit (Greddy)

Edit: never mind, looks like some help is on hand in the JDL thread

CSG Mike 07-21-2019 04:06 PM

I may run a GReddy kit on my car, but I'm probably more familiar with the JDL kit than most owners and shops.

Tons of oil burning? Check your vacuum lines and PCV system. You may be sucking in oil inadvertently.

DW pumps and injectors are just fine. That's what I run on my own, championship winning car. ID injectors are better, but you're likely not at a power level where it will make a significant difference. ID injectors are much easier to tune for tuners who want the injector data handed to them on a silver platter, so it's often recommended by tuners who don't want to or don't know how to really get low duty cycle pulse width down.

As for a return, DT has no obligation to take a return, although they may, with a re-stocking fee.

Do you want to get tuned by the guy who helped DT and JDL build their reputations? He's a part owner at CSG now.

Also, many vendors and customers are frustrated with DT precisely for the issues you've described. 86Speed will be selling CSG tunes moving forward, like many other vendors who previously had great experiences with DT when Zach was their primary point of contact, sales rep, and tuner.

Don't know if it's too late but, have you checked the turbo return lines? Also I would route the Verus AOS Vent to atmosphere, I have the same setup and never had any issues. You should check if you got any oil in your turbo as well, other than a cleanup job i don't think you should fall now man you have a lot in this build. This thread is packed with nice stuff you have on the car, don't give up dude

Conman 07-22-2019 08:12 PM

ok ok sorry I was stressing. Car is working. Just drove it and its great! We just had to fix the AOS set up. It just sucked a little oil in on the first start but it seems all good now. I will post a better update soon.

Glad to hear everything's back and running. I would really like to hear what you think of the kit as I'm thinking of getting the JDL kit in near future. Also, which gauge mount are you using for the dashboard?

JDl is A+; the dual gauge mount is a Perrin. It blocks the useless spedo and the temp gauge but both of those are not really that important to see.

Conman 07-23-2019 06:17 PM

https://www.facebook.com/connor.hint...8341432790621/

So its running now that we unhooked the AOS from the intake port. Two center hoses are now open. It looks like I want to connect them with a T-Connector and then just dump the open end out the bottom of the car? Or should I get a catch can? Verus has a recirculated add on also I could get... Also Im not sure what happened but my AEM oil pressure gauge has stopped working already? Drove it home from the shop and it worked fine. Pulled into the driveway and it lost power? Like it blew a fuse or came unconnected from the power or something?

Conman 07-24-2019 12:00 PM

So driving it this morning it’s started smoking from the engine. It’s looks like some coolant is leaking somewhere? It was just a bit to the left of engine down in the plastic tray. Couldn’t see from where it leaked, but then it stopped smoking? I’m taking it to another shop to fix the Oil gauge that doesn’t work so maybe they can find the leak
