So.... your saying your too cheap to put 91 and want to save $2-3 for a tank full?

Yeah, you can but I'll drive like a grand ma so you won't get the engine knock.

NoSloppy 05-10-2019 03:59 AM

No, I think he's saying the only ethanol free version is 87 octane. Probably has higher octane out of the pump available but not ethanol free.
to answer your question the car is recommended to have 93 or higher. Adding octane booster you can bump up the 87 to at least 93. Here:

The car is recommended to have 93 or higher but is required to have a minimum of 91. The car is also designed to run on up to 10% ethanol so there is zero advantage in getting ethanol free. It is not a 1954 Buick.

If anything get MORE ETHANOL!

Any modern car's fuel system can handle ethanol. Thousands of Subarus are running E85 without issues.

I had a gas station attendent put 87 in my car and the IAM dropped to .4-.5, don't run it.

Dr. BRZ 05-10-2019 12:52 PM

It's going to run like total shit.

gravitylover 05-10-2019 12:55 PM

The only reason to use non-e is to quiet the crickets down. Run the regular 91 or 93 and don't worry about them, don't run 87 except in a pinch.

Yeah even on 91 octane, I've seen my IAM drop to 0.66. Pretty surprising compared to the 0.96-1.00 I was used to seeing on east coast 93 octane.

I can only imagine how low the IAM would drop running 87 octane regularly.

finch1750 05-10-2019 02:36 PM

Zero reason to run 87. The crickets are not a problem if that is what you are trying to solve.

Does supreme (91 Octane) has Ethenol added? Can I add Chevron Fuel injector to gas tank before next fill?

It will usually say on the pump. Typical labeling is "May contain up to 10% Ethanol."

Why would you want to add fuel injector cleaner?
