What to check after swinging it

so today i went all out and wanted to have fun with the 86 and started practicing catching the drifts and while in tge proccess i redlined it to 8k on accident ( shows how quiet the stock exhaust is )
and in the middle of me stopping , i stall and when i try to turn it on , it turned on slowly. so for future reference what should i check for after i have too much fun ?

If you used protection you should be fine.

FR-Sky 04-03-2019 02:43 AM

This car can rev up to 9k, so you are safe.

That may be a bit optimistic but a one time hit at 8 should be just fine.
Not much that could be "checked" afterward anyway. If you don't have a rod sticking through the block or any other obvious problems than you avoided immediate failure. This time.

Totalled, part out coming soon

I’ve tripped the fuel cut-off a few times and car still go good

DandoX 04-03-2019 03:07 PM

This is through a downshift correct?

Bypassed what limiter? There is no limiter on a downshift other than the driver.

for sure, guess I didn't interpret his "i sent it on 1st gear" reply as him acknowledging he overrevved by downshifting :iono: must be OP's accent :bonk:

There isn't anything that can be checked without a full tear-down. If it held together, just keep sending it.

If it is a raven black car I need a passenger side mirror. Obviously totaled and parting it out is the best way to maximize salvage.

If it is not a raven black car, then it is probably fine.

On the real, as I understand with the stock engine, the wrist pin bosses are the first thing to let go. They stretch.

You're probably just fine. Change the oil. You'll feel better.

That should reset any issues brought on as a result of 8000 RPM redlining.

........PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! Too many twins have died early and horrible deaths.
(this is known as a "power shift" and is actually a pretty surefire way to damage the engine).

EDIT: You already did it!

Just listen and pray. And please remember this is on the web forever. Kinda like going on a medical site and asking if sharting is normal.

x

i never money shifted it tho i just swung the car while i was in first gear , no downshifting was performed during said action

So what if OP changes the oil and 1 or 2 of those wrist pins come out with the oil? Problem solved!

I am tempted to berate the OP but suffice it to say you might have been lucky this time.

Wait

Wait

Wait

I thought you downshift over revved.

You jut pegged it?

Totaled for sure.

If you didn't downshift over rev then you are 100% fine. Even if you did you would be 90% fine if nothing went at the time.

Everybody is saying "totaled" and "part out" because that is standard forum banter when somebody asks such a question. It really means "Nothing is wrong don't worry".

Ultramaroon 04-04-2019 09:51 PM

omfg kill me now

It's rev-limited to 7400 rpm. When you said 8K that implied overrev. The only way to do that is to money shift.

NVM the oil. Go do some more donuts. Have fun. That's what it's all about.

I see some of the guys were ah messen wich ya. - :D

Personally, I don't feel it's a good idea to "hit the rev limiter".

Why not?

Because:

* it increases wear on the engine to spin it up that fast

* the engine has already produced its top HP and torque

* when you hit the rev limiter, the fuel is shut off to the engine and it stops (or slows down) for a moment.

* so, if the engine stops for a moment, you have just lost the race against the soccer mom in the mini-van

* or, if your in a tight curve, you just lost the forward thrust of the drive wheels

That's my take - :)
