My FLAT4 86

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would create this journal to record the progress of my Hot Lava FR-S. I bought the car back on June 28th and immediately fell in love with the car. I know people say they will keep a car forever, I said it when I bought my MR2, but I truly mean it when I say I WILL KEEP THIS CAR FOREVER! haha.

*Update*

Have been talking with the guys over at Full Blown and have decided to go with their kit. It has the capability to put out some serious power right off the bat and offers the most choices for upgrading in the future with the turbo location. (I understand other kits are mounted in the same place, but they are more expensive initially) I plan on doing the install myself with the help of a mechanically inclined friend of mine, and I am doing this not only to cut down on costs but to also gain the knowledge that comes with installing something like this yourself. I will be posting a seperate thread with pictures of install process and will be more than happy to answer any questions or even help out if you are in the area (Las Vegas).

tinted headlamps and tail lamps actually look good. congrats mate!

chulooz 08-01-2012 02:20 AM

nice tint, maybe not the shade I would go. Chrome amber blinkers up front would be sweet too

Lucky13 08-01-2012 02:23 AM

Wow must be fun driving up there 👌

It's a very fun drive. Shocking that this is 20 miles outside of Vegas.

Not a fan of making lights and safety features less functional but I thought the photos were terrific and you picked the best color imho.

It also looks like you may have turned some donuts. amirite?

Everyone has their opinions, I plan on redoing them with the blackout inside mod and HID swap.

Thanks for the compliment on the pics, I wasnt the one that made those tire marks though.

Nice job on the lights man. I think the shade of tint on the lights is perfect. Great looking shots of your car. Where did you take the pics at? Let me know the next time you head out for pics because I want to take some of my car as well and start up my own car journal.

WOW! Amazing location to take the FRS. Black tail lights look fantastic on Orange.

Congratulations!

Wow! Stunning man. I am now a huge fan of Hot Lava. It's also the only color IMO that looks amazing with tinted head/tail lights.

ZetaVI 08-01-2012 10:48 AM

Amazing scenery in your photos.

Thanks man! I got a chance to see my car from a third person perspective today when my friend and I picked up my MR2 and I couldn't take my eyes off the car. It looks so beautiful!

I took the pictures up on Mt. Charleston at the Ski Resort Look Out, Great spot to take pictures. I will def let you know next time I go.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the compliment. This wasn't my first choice in color but it is now my favorite color on this car.

Thanks and I would have to agree with you about the head/tail lights.

Your pictures make me wish I picked Hot Lava.

ngabdala 08-01-2012 06:51 PM

I'm waiting on my WRB BRZ, if they offered Hot Lava I'd take one after seeing what yours looks like :)

Haha thanks, thats probably the biggest compliment I could get. :thanks:

SkitterSkotter 08-02-2012 01:14 AM

Hell yeah, a fellow hot lava owner. I must say hot lava is absolutely stunning in person and the car is just so much fun to drive.

dura1198 08-02-2012 10:44 AM

Great looking car and amazing pics!

Nevermore 08-02-2012 02:43 PM

1. I'm so happy to see another Hot Lava FR-S (while also jealous because I don't have mine yet.)

2. I'm incredibly sad the pictures won't load on the work computer.

Going to Zenkai Motors tomorrow to test fit a Crawford Performance 08'+ Gymkhana exhaust on my car. Can't wait to hear how it sounds.

We tried that in the beginning and it will not fit on your car, sorry. Hope I saved you the time.

That sucks, thanks for the heads up though! Saved me some time.

You are welcome! If you are ever in So Cal, stop by and you can hear as well as drive it :)

*Update* Ordered Visconti tuned EcuTek Stage 1 ProTune as part of the group buy. Looking forward to that coming in the mail!

Planning on turboing it soon as well, so stay tuned because october is going to be a great month for my FR-S!

Turbowned 09-21-2012 11:20 AM

I personally think that widebody would be silly on a stock powertrain. Buuut if you're gonna do it, at least color-match the fenders to your body. Hot Lava is so sexy!

Unleashed 09-21-2012 11:43 PM

No longer planning on keeping it stock powertrain, AVO Turbo kit going on as soon as they release it. Also, holding off on the widebody kit for now. Looking for power and even better handling first.

Turbowned 09-22-2012 10:08 AM

There ya go! BTW, how much power is that GT35R MR2 making? I'm going to be building a 1900cc 20v turbo motor for my MK1; planning to make a super-responsive 300whp in a year or two. Going to use a GTX2863R :)

Unleashed 09-23-2012 10:24 PM

Alright everyone, I could use a little help. I am torn between three turbo kits right now.

1.) Accelerated Performances-they are the originators and masters at what they do.

2.) P&L Motorsports - Such a complete and beautiful kit offering nothing but the latest and greatest. V-bands all round make that kit very appealing, but also a tad expensive.

3.) AVO - Sure to produce that boxer rumble and spool the quickest. Its price is hard to beat but will it have the latest and greatest turbo? No V-Band

What are all your thoughts?

Annaa 09-26-2012 06:46 AM

These are awesome pics. And your car is very nice.

Awesome job with your car!! Too bad I haven't seen you driving it on the road yet. How are you liking the Visconti Tune and where did you get it done? By the way, you said on your first post that you wanted to keep the factory warranty, doesn't that void it? Or are you just going all out now because I see your contemplating on a turbo too haha.

I was really tempted to get the the Invidia N1 as well, but I'm starting to lean more towards the Perrin header-back system. What do you think about the N1?

Thanks! You should come out to the wednesday night meets and friday night meets! Wednesday at Flamingo and Durango, Friday at the In-n-Out off sahara.

I haven't received my Visconti Tune yet because he is swamped and I have been out of town on business, but I will be sure to update the page with an update/review when I get it. I have decided to go all out on this car and say eff the warranty.

I haven't received the N1 yet either since it just came out, but I was instantly drawn to it based off PRICE and sound. It sounds amazing! I will make it a turbo back once the turbo goes on.

Thanks for checking out my page!
