TRD cat back

New TRD cat back on its way. Center inlet SS pipe and canister with chrome tips with TRD logo.

Visconti 08-01-2012 12:26 AM

how much?

MKIV 08-01-2012 12:26 AM

TBD

eriktherod 08-01-2012 12:42 AM

That would look infinitely sexier without the FR-S badge and Toyota emblems instead. ;) Oh and the TRD decklid spoiler! :D

As much as I love the work aftermarket companies are doing, I'd be pretty interested if the price was reasonable. I actually like the D-shape inlets!

dunphyjp 08-01-2012 12:44 AM

when you find out the price please let us know! cuz this exhaust is HIGH on my MUST HAVE list! and if this is combined to be a catback or header back piece then its my must have #1... if it's an axel back i just hope it makes a little power or is at least bolt up-able to a higher flow mid pipe...

edit: i know it says catback up top, but lets face it, most times TRD only makes axel backs for Scions... if this is an actual catback then i'll be thrilled!

MKIV 08-01-2012 12:56 AM

I'll gather up some more details about this for you all and post it here in a day or two.

eriktherod 08-01-2012 01:51 AM

I would venture to say that Toyota is committed to this car as a sports car versus the tC which was a sporty compact car. That being said, I'm fairly sure it'll be a full cat-back and not an axel back (looking from the pics).

Still think a test pipe is in order here.. ahem.

LeavingNormal 08-01-2012 01:55 AM

Yeah those tips looking amazing! I'm so sick of the silly burned tip ones everyone else seems to be putting out. This one fits the look of the car very well, much better than the jdm TRD exhaust.

reeves 08-01-2012 02:14 AM

+1 for the D-shaped tips! Hope the exhaust is "reasonably" priced.

WWEVOX 08-01-2012 02:41 AM

I'm interested in the power gains. I am debating between the TRD and the Perrin. I know Perrin is doing their research and getting some measurable gains from their exhaust.

CoBrA788 08-01-2012 04:09 AM

What's the part number for this?

MKIV 08-01-2012 10:39 AM

1 Attachment(s)
TRD Performance Exhaust kit (Mid Pipe & Muffler) weight = 33.0 lbs, Take off OE exhaust (Mid Pipe & Muffler) weight = 38.6 lbs, Total weight change = minus -5.6 lbs

MSRP is $999.00

Part num. PTR03-18131

Note: for those of you who like the BRZ type lower diffuser, this tip will fit in very nicely. The bottom shape should compliment that look or a aftermarket one once available.

I'm glad that weight got updated!! Last I saw, it was +7 lbs net weight change!

Looking forward to heading this piece in person!

Don't buy it then.. Muffler and midpipe pricing is spot on. And it's MSRP.

Jeff86 08-01-2012 11:05 AM

The FR-S's at the Scion First Drive Event http://frsbaltimore.eventbrite.com/
were equipped with this exhaust and the TRD suspension. The exhaust sounded awesome... not annoyingly loud, just deep and throaty. The suspension looked like what the stock height should have been... bout 1.5" drop. Excellent products IMO.

Negative. Drop isn't that much. :)

empower-auto 08-01-2012 11:19 AM

Agency Power / Nameless / everything else looks so much better

What is the drop then? There weren't any nearby for me to compare, but they looked a good deal better. They seemed about similar to the difference between the Mugen SS and stock height on my RSX which are 1.5 drop.

The drop is 1" with linear springs in front and progressive in rear.

why does everybody keep saying "that's just msrp"???
I feel like there is something I don't know. I've never heard of companies offering "invoice" price (or whatever you call it) for aftermarket parts.

drifter 08-01-2012 01:43 PM

Dyno results? when

Does "MSRP" imply it's negotiable..? :iono: Specifically if it's bought from the dealership.

I have never paid msrp for anything. Most companies give at least 10-20% off msrp. Hell, I've seen as much as 30-35% from folks I know.

It implies it is the manufacturer suggested retail price. Lots of wiggle room. :) If they want to make the sale that is..

I thought it was 15mm. 20mm at most.

sastexan 08-01-2012 02:41 PM

What is dealer cost?

eriktherod 08-01-2012 04:22 PM

Being able to get it for $750-800 would be what I'm looking for. :D

terrypm 08-01-2012 04:30 PM

They had the TRD exhaust on a car at the First86 event back in April. Great sound, I thought someone posted a clip of the sound.

Re~Mix 08-01-2012 07:41 PM

When can we get this??? Gonna send an email to some dealers now and see what's up!

Been looking around and this is my favorite shape still.

MKIV 08-01-2012 07:54 PM

Tentatively it's scheduled to be launched in mid Sept.

CircuitJerk 08-01-2012 09:08 PM

This looks very familiar, or at least the muffler reminds me of the TRD axle back I had on my 05 Corolla XRS. Looked exactly the same. I ran into someone that worked for Borla at one point and said they were the ones that made it for TRD.
Now I'm really curious who got this contract....

colHolm 08-01-2012 09:18 PM

I know HKS does the F-Sport exhaust. I'm not sure who has been doing the recent TRD stuff though.

Yeah I know that the TRD exhaust for the tC was made by Borla too.

wait so this part will be available at the dealers?
if that's the case then it makes sense. I always think of aftermarket parts as something you buy on websites.
I always get what I want out of dealers so this shouldn't be a problem!

detainu 08-01-2012 10:21 PM

What a rip off! Too much for TRD

Doesn't matter where it is sold. MSRP is MSRP.

But, yes... TRD stuff will be offered through Toyota dealerships. And also "aftermarket"...

TRD parts can be ordered through the dealer. There are online retailers as well. The savvy usually pay less than MSRP; sounds like you know the game.

See above. TRD has always been priced high. If TRD is what you want, you gotta be resourceful.

ruskymx 08-01-2012 11:26 PM

I was at the Baltimore First Drive Event and all the cars had the TRD exhaust. Here are some videos that I took.
