Conflicting maintenance schedules between physical manual vs online
 

Here's Toyota's online recommended maintenance schedule:

One thing that is very interesting is the fact that the online version DOES NOT mention time intervals for normal driving. It's only the 7,500 mile interval.

However, the physical maintenance guide that came with my car says 7,500 miles or 7.5 months, whichever comes first.

So...which maintenance schedule should we really be looking at?

It is whichever comes first.

how much extra money do you have to burn?

do you have a good lawyer if you follow the more lax version and something happens?

I'm going to contact Toyota about this and see if they give me a straight answer. I'll post the reply in this thread if I get one.

The online scheduler gives you the option of selecting by mileage or time.
The schedule required to meet warranty conditions is 7,500 miles or 7.5 months, whichever comes first in the manual although the numbers are different for most Toyotas the website says the same.

LOL. Please elaborate on how a lawyer would contribute to this situation.

The implication was that if they used the lesser of the services and the engine failed then warranty would be denied and the services of a lawyer would be required.

How did you get that option to show up? I don't see it.

It's both. Back in the day the rule of thumb was "Change your oil every 3 months or 3K miles, which ever comes first.

Can you explicitly point out where you clicked? There's various links that look like "service" links.

Interesting. The Canadian Toyota site differs from the main .com site.

Same rules apply though. The US site just doesn't make that clear.

OK, I got a response from Toyota.

They are referencing the Warranty & Maintenance Guide (physical) and saying the intervals are 7,500 miles or 7.5 months.

The website is therefore misleading, giving people the impression that intervals are only mileage-based.

I called in the morning and my service manager said at the 3-4k miles I put on in a year I am still good with doing the oil change once every year.

We have seen warranty work refused on flimsier excuses here.

Sure. I was pffting the idea that you'd need a lawyer for that. Even if you went to court, it would be small claims.
