Debadging

I have a silver 2013 gt86 and have been trying for long to make it more individual. I thought of debadging it but theres the bonnet shape which defines the badges position. Has anyone maybe found a cool replacement badge or maybe has a photo of how their debadged car look (just for inspiration). When i removed the badge, everyone keeps saying that something looks like its missing and not as flush as i want it to be

JD001 02-17-2019 05:59 AM

Should have got yourself a BRZ...

slickd 02-17-2019 06:04 AM

Lol well they discontinued the brz in South Africa so apparently parts are abit more difficult to get, atleast the toyota parts are more common. Wish i could afford a decent supercharger though, would love atleast an additional 100 / 150 n.m of torque for the car. I put on better gripping pilot cup sport tyres which means drifting is even more difficult with std power

Summerwolf 02-17-2019 09:51 AM

Get a brz fender piece. Debadged without anything missing g.

slickd 02-17-2019 10:35 AM

Thanks, will look in to that option.

He said "bonnet." He's talking about the lines in the hood that run down to the oval spot molded into the bumper cover. That's the same on both cars. Getting one from a BRZ will still leave a weird spot where it's clear something is missing.

They're the same car. Most "Toyota" parts will fit on a BRZ and vice versa.

As for your debadging problem, just put the nose badge back on. Problem solved.

If you simply can't stand having a normal nose badge and just want to be different, order a Scion badge. The cars were sold under the Scion name in the US until Toyota discontinued the brand and started selling them as Toyotas. People in SA probably won't know what it is.

There are decals (Toyota and Scion) that would look different, as well.

Thanks for that feedback, i guess i can look into both options. Hey one last question, do any of you think the 86 will soon be discontinued cause of the new supra? I just wonder if anyone will be ok with a 200bhp toyota when theres a faster one available (i dont know the official output sorry).

How about a novel idea?

Go read the existing 100 or so threads about debadging the car. They will give you dozens and dozens of options and methods.

Then go read the 5 or 6 existing threads on the future of the car. The statements from Subaru and Toyota are pretty clear.

When did it become too much work to search for the already existing info?

Well thats an interesting point, how should i respond....
1-its my thread, if you didnt want to read it...DONT...and that includes responding
2-This site is for fans of the gt86/brz, not for people who go out of their way to search for threads to critisize
3- i was just trying to engage in fun personal opinions of fellow brz/86 drivers regarding their views on the car vs the supra, not get a pre-scripted marketing statement from a manufacturer
4- (and im getting very near the end of my responses), if my thread offended you so much, feel free to complain on www.my86-isnt-the-only-small-thing-i-have.com
Thanks for your liberating comments, just brings a tear of joy to my eyes

Aren't you even going to list the threads for him? - :iono:

It is not "your" thread. It is the forum's thread and as such I will read and respond as I wish.
I do not "search" for any threads to criticize and most certainly have not gone out of my way. The question you asked is one of the most common threads here but obviously too much work for you to look.
You did not ask for fun personal views you engaged in speculation that has already been disproved.
Not offended by the tread. Sad to see somebody too lazy or dumb to seek an answer to a very basic question without being spoonfed.

No. I will do that for somebody asking a reasonable question that at least put an ounce of effort into looking for the answer.

you've misunderstood the fb rules of deh interwebz.

1. nothing is forever, anything can and will be deleted to the whims of the creator.

2. no idea conceived earlier than 1 hour before hand has ever existed, or will exist in the future. therefore, all idea's are new idea's.

3.the internet is a global resource, specifically developed, created, and maintained for the sole person reading this at this very moment. refer to rule 1 for any negative feedback from others.

Logic would dictate that i retort once more with comments and insults in order to fuel your online false ego but honestly i really dont care. Im a car fanatic, passionate about my gt86 and keen to engage in useful and fun topics relating to the car. To everyone thus far who gave some really cool suggestions, thanks:w00t:

soundman98 02-18-2019 02:03 AM

Lol, His whole point is that you're approaching this the wrong way. If you stick around and actually get to know him by what he posts, this is not an ego thing whatsoever.

The entire point of forums is that it is a repository of information on a specific subject(in my case, i use forums to meet different people of a specific interest, and then get involved in all the other interests). Posting a new thread every time you have any new/different idea undermines the reason for all of the stored information of all the people that came before you with the same idea.

It's a facebook mentality, because facebook is entirely about the here and now, and makes it incredibly difficult to see what others are doing, or have done.

My suggestion moving forward is to stop expecting that any idea you have is new/different, and assume someone has done the same thing first somewhere and was kind enough to document it.

Any time i start a new project, the first thing i do is start a search of the very broad topic that i have in mind. For instance, when i started designing my brz's (future) drl/turn signal combo, i searched the forums to see what everyone else was doing and came across Acree's build where he had a similar idea, but came to a different conclusion.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29374

The whole point of all this is to share ideas, and concepts, and that it is somewhere to find later. Rarely does anyone come up with an idea that hasn't been tried in some form or another before, and searching mean you don't hit the same pitfalls they did.

On topic: I got black badges to replace the silver, on my 2017 Solar Orange 86 it looks 100% better than the OEM chrome badges.

Oh, yeah, you need to search more, ask questions in existing threads if required, it keeps all relevant information in one location and makes finding information easy.

No matter how righteous your rebuttals are it is still a newb mistake.

Take it as constructive criticism and then google 1. "debadging toyota 86"

2. "Supra" or "Zupra"

Finally, go outside and do a skid, skids, like beer, makes everything clearer, well for a while anyway, it eventually gets all a bit cloudy.

I considered getting the badges blacked out, checked online with custom shops and youtube videos but im not sure the black badges on silver paint really looks good (Saw it on the orange 86's, it really looks awesome)

I would think that the badges plasti dipped, flat black, would look just fine on a silver car. Then, if you didn't like it, just peel it off - :)

DIY, it's easy. Removing them can be a pain, though. The rear has mounting pins you need to work around. Heat and dental floss.
