What does he already have?

Brink 02-02-2019 02:25 AM

Can you tell us anything about what he already has? There are so many possibilities for this car it would help to have a starting point, know what he already has and what direction he's going with mods.

He has a 2015 frs with a supercharger & he just got a brand new header. We live in California so he has to have a semi quiet exhaust system.

Shift knob is cheap and easy. Something like the voodoo shift knobs can even be customized with an engraving.

That can be a major personal preference item though.

But what isn't? Either way with the budget maybe a data logger like an aim solo if he tracks and doesn't own one.

Even if he doesn't track that would be a cool idea.

olsonpg 02-02-2019 02:58 AM

10/10 gf. Are you taking applications?

olsonpg 02-02-2019 03:00 AM

if we had a picture of his car would could see what he has and hasn't done. Even the interior or engine bay would help us get ideas!

86MLR 02-02-2019 03:08 AM

I would love this, it's a cool gift IRT his hobby, plus you know he will like it, who doesn't like pick your own car parts >

Use any left over funds for a nice night out.

Trying to buy car parts is really hard.

I would not want a shift knob, or tow hooks, or a heap of other things that all the kids seem to like.

86MLR 02-02-2019 03:38 AM

If "I" had to pick a thing, it would be this > http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/irp-...l#.XFVIKR7ZVow

Actually you can buy it and give it to me, if you want, just saying, K, thanks.

I'll keep a eye on my incoming mail

I am normally anti gift card but this case is an exception and those are some perfect suggestions.

Hi Melissa86 and welcome to our forum -

That's a nice thought getting your BF something for his car.

I'll second ol @86MLR 's suggestion and get him a gift card.

Meissa,
Let me get this straight - You go create an account on a car nerd forum to look for gift ideas to go with that thing he already loves....

Whatever you get him, he’s already won.

Brink 02-02-2019 10:38 AM

Yeah, go with the gift card. Too many options for these cars to guess what someone else wants to do with theirs. With the gift card you know that whatever part(s) he gets are something he actually wants to put on his car and not something he's just installing because the gf bought it for him.

Ditto that!

Secondary suggestion... Tires!

Atmo 02-02-2019 12:48 PM

Considering your budget:

Either entry fees for both of you at a driver training event track day at Laguna Seca Raceway. Helmets are usually provided.

https://www.weathertechraceway.com/calendar

Or, a track day for him followed by dinner at Nepenthe, then overnight at a cabin in Pfeiffer Big Sur SP.

https://www.nepenthe.com/

https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=570

The next day drive south on Hwy 1 to visit Hearst Castle and return home.

http://hearstcastle.org/

Experiences that you'll both remember forever.

Happy Anniversary!

JD001 02-02-2019 01:54 PM

Buy him a track day experience so he can get to drive a "fast" car. He'll be really grateful.

Spuds 02-02-2019 02:33 PM

Or a TireRack gift card. Wheels and/or tires are a car guy's best friend.

Good, I wasn't the only one thinking about this possibility. He could even be posting suggestions in this thread himself.

FR-Sky 02-02-2019 10:48 PM

Give him another girlfriend, so he can have 2 gifts. JK**

How about an engraved shift knob with your name on it?

Teseo 02-02-2019 11:11 PM

So he always thinks of her when he's handling his knob?

EAGLE5 02-03-2019 01:41 AM

All these hilariously sexist comments.

Depending on what he has:
A flex fuel kit.
Padded knee rests.
A sub woofer.
Keyless entry or remote start.
Low profile aluminum jack from harbor freight.
Weathertech mats all around.
A full detail/ceramic coat.

FRSBRZGT86FAN 02-03-2019 02:09 AM

@Melissa86 stick with the $500 ft86speedfactory gift card, and use the left over for something like a quick shift kit if he has a manual, or do the $500 and a nice night out out combo:
http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/trd-...-kit-1465.html

Car parts are a difficult gift to get right. For a friends birthday I recently bought her a UUC evo short throw shifter for her e36 m3 and she was ecstatic but that's only because I knew what she was trying to perfect on the car with transmission fluids and bushing installs. It would help to know the full set of mods he has already.

You really just need to poke around and find something he wishes was better on the car, like an android auto head unit or something like that.

There can't be too many supercharged '15 black FRSes in the area owned by guys with an anniversary coming up. If he's on here he's already recognized his car.

Dude around San Francisco? There could be dozens.

Jdmjunkie 02-03-2019 03:54 AM

Custom shift knob and reverse lockout. You can even have it custom engraved.

We have a couple in NorCal.

CY86 02-03-2019 09:24 AM

i think the his and hers track day experience, maybe spend the weekend could be fun. that's what i'd want. you can always get more goodies. but experiences live forever.

RallySport 02-03-2019 02:59 PM

Another vote for flex fuel if you have e85 semi nearby.

Or gift card, for the safe, but unimaginative bet.

g e 02-04-2019 02:58 PM

Guys are like dogs-

Rub our bellies once in a while, share an encouraging word when we’re down and feed us. We’ll follow You everywhere!

Gosh, I hope I didn’t break mancode here

Are there any tracks within a few hours drive? See about getting a day pass where he can zoom-zoom around corners and drive the wheels off the car. Stay over at non-chain hotel walking distance to brew pub and good chow. Shower him with praise and encouraging words. You get the drift.
