Anyone know this car? Bought it in chicago, came from missouri, I think. Lots of mods the dealer didn't know about, just trying to do some research on what it's got. Planning on being track car. Thanks!

NARFALICIOUS 01-15-2019 10:58 PM

You already bought it?

sunami88 01-16-2019 12:55 AM

Love the HDR stamp on the 229x229 images. Those are some of the worst pictures I've ever seen, and you've already bought it, so what are you expecting here?

Impureclient 01-16-2019 01:02 AM

I know that car! Picture is a little small but that definitely looks like an FRS.

J1Avs 01-16-2019 01:27 AM

I presume he’s hoping to find the original owner, or someone who knows the original owner to provide some additional insight on what done to the car.

Between the different clubs, meet ups, etc. there’s a chance someone might recognize it!

Maybe if there were an identifiable picture posted.

Impureclient 01-16-2019 02:34 AM

If you do a Google image search "corvette stingray" comes up for the first picture and "maserati granturismo" for the second picture. Now I'm not so sure what it is?

jordan7831 01-16-2019 08:14 AM

Is that the new supra???

Meh, I think many users on here just like to be snarky and condescending. While larger pictures might certainly help, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the previous owner would be able to identify their car from these pictures. And I don't think it's unreasonable to come to an enthusiast forum on the off chance of finding previous history about a car you bought that has modifications (some folks stick around the forum even after selling). Maybe not a good chance, but instead of much help the OP gets sarcasm. This forum isn't always terribly welcoming to new members. :sigh: /rant

To OP: Welcome to the board. I don't know your specific car, but good luck finding info. You have a better shot than I would have even if I had posted high resolution photos of my car, since it was bone stock and indistinguishable from most others.

DarkPira7e 01-16-2019 08:55 AM

Aaron Robins on YouTube knows a lot of BRZ/86 in the Chicago area, I'd try to contact him. Not sure of his username on here

This is exactly what you'd see on many car forums if you posted tiny pictures and didn't list any mods you have found. More info and larger pictures are needed to really see if anyone can figure out whose car it use to be. This has happened multiple times on this forum where enough info has been given. We cannot read people's minds.

Magyarman 01-16-2019 09:15 AM

Do a VIN search.

I get it, I just think sometimes (not just this thread) people default to snark rather than offering help. And I realize it's not just this forum. I've been on many forums/message boards over the past 20 years or so. The Roadster forum I'm on tends to be pretty helpful, even to newbies with stupid questions (of course, there are less Roadster...therefore less newbies with stupid questions). Anyway, that might just mean I'm getting old...like the other Roadster owners.

I probably just needed more coffee. :iono:

It's got louvres and distinctive wheels. I'd recognize it immediately if it were mine. You don't need a 4000K picture to recognize whether or not it's your old car...

And yeah, plenty of douchy sites act the same. It's how they became known as douchy.

We generally start out trying to help and the responses from the OP determine where things go from there. That does not mean that if the question is really really silly or the answer could be found in a 5 minute search there are never snarky responses right from the start though. Many of the "snarky" answers are also just intended as jokes or banter and I get that a new member may not always understand that. We have a very strong base of regulars so when somebody new comes in it is sort of like walking into a room full of buddies and listening to them talk. It may seem insulting at first but you have a couple of choices on how you proceed. You can join in and take the comments and banter as it exists or you can decide the whole room is full of jerks and try to pick a fight. You will not win a fight against a whole room of buddies! We also seem to attract a good number of snowflakes which will be offended if you even remotely seem to not agree with them or do not give precisely the answer they want to hear. Nothing we can do will help them.

As pointed out in this particular thread there is little to go on based on the info provided and the stamp sized pictures. I know we have managed to put at least 6 people in contact with previous owners but we need better material to help. New members need to help us help them!

Yep I would know mine as well but with more info and better pictures it raises the odds of somebody that didn't own it recognizing it. Difference of one set of eyes and 1,000.

I wouldn't recognize anyone else's car from this forum even if they ran directly into me... And besides, it's quite obviously got louvres and distinctive wheels...how much more info do you really need than that? Do I have to see the parking lot ding he got 3 years ago to recognize it?

Ohhh snarky and condescending. Well done!
The little pictures I see put identifying the wheels right off the table and I couldn't tell there were louvers until you said it. Maybe you wouldn't recognize it but many may and THAT is why the more eyes that can actually see it the better.

Rampage 01-16-2019 11:21 AM

Everybody on here wants to be a comedian. That is their first impulse before trying to be helpful.

I blame Tcoat! :happyanim:

I'm looking at the forum on a crappy 13" laptop and not using my reading glasses and still can make out what the wheels look like and that there are louvres on the back window. Do you really need to know the brand of wheel to recognize the car?? The original gripe is that the pictures are too small, so we're talking about a visual thing here...

A visual thing that many probably can't see.
All I said was larger pictures would be more helpful. Not rocket science.

Hey I try to help first and then turn to comedy. Unless of course I can make the help also the comedy.

humfrz 01-16-2019 03:02 PM

Oh, my - this thread went downhill quickly - :(

I don't reckon the OP is out of line posting here to try to find some background on his newly purchased car. However, better pictures and a description of the mods he has identified, would have been helpful.

I do believe that generally, we try to be helpful to newcomers, but if they don't follow up, they leave themselves open to some of the forum wolves.

Hey wait a minute! I was providing that service almost two years before @Tcoat showed up.... I do defer to his better skills however.

As far as the car, sorry don't recognize it. In my defense until someone mentioned it I didn't know it had louvers. In fact, I'm still taking your word for it as I still am not sure.

Hey! As per the Supra thread I am the one that is toxic and everybody hates. Don't try to take that away from me. It is all I have in the world. Now how do I use this newfangled computing device again.

Just be glad you didn't tell them to loosen their load or the shit may have really hit the fan.

Meanwhile the OP asked the question, didn't get an answer in an hour, logged out and never logged in again.

It's name is Bob.
Or Bobby if you want to be formal.

It was my car. I was driving the mean streets of Chicago and my cocaine and hooker addiction got the best of me. Traded it for an 8 ball and a blowjob. I never beat it.
