Good tint shop in SoCal?

Can anyone recommend a good tint shop in SoCal specifically in the 626 or 909 area that won't break the third brake light? And, how much did it cost you?

I will call around for prices, but I would like to get input from members as well. Thank you!

I like using Rich's Tint Shoppe in Walnut (about a 2-3 miles from Mt. SAC). I found him by researching on Tintdude.com where his is well known and respected among other tint pros.

Here's his Yelp page:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/richs-tint-shoppe-walnut

Out of 44 reviews, only one guy didn't give him five stars. He gave him four and that was for being "super busy."

Here's his Facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Richs-...pe/58313432998

His cover photo is my Nissan he recently did a few days ago. I paid $170 for five windows using Madico Charcoal. If you look through his pics, he's got a FR-S in there.

Thank you madoka. I live about 15 mins away from that tint shop and I've never heard of it. Definitely gonna check it out, thank you!

Glad to be of assistance. If you do decide to go there, tell him the guy with the black GT-R, black Cayman S, and black IS-F sent you. He'll remember me based on those cars.

Also if you are going to wait there, I'd recommend eating at Sate House which is directly across the street:

Any suggestions with already done BRZ/FRS ????

Juan@aePerformance 07-31-2012 02:37 PM

We offer a tint service and we have a lot of experience with the FRS.

Not sure what you're asking for. . .

Calidrifter 07-31-2012 02:52 PM

I think he means someone who can retint his already tinted car.

I'll definitely mention you. Thank you for the recommendations. Are those all of your cars? I'm jealous, haha.

One of the local shop seem to be very popular. Even on the weekday they seem busy as hell there. It could be the best one by far "California Tint" on Rosemead & Mission Dr, Rosemead. Every morning passing by to work, I always spot at least 1 FRS waiting for Tint :) I did full all around metallic 140 otd.

nocurfew 07-31-2012 03:11 PM

I've heard great things about California Tint. 140 OTD isn't bad and they also offer lifetime warranty. Hmm...

TRD_86 07-31-2012 03:21 PM

Yes good warranty! some of my family member did it no complaining. I visited them 1st time for mine few weeks ago. Tint look awesome. The thing is they been there and and done a lot of 86 cars by today so they should do better job. Remember there are 7 windows total for this car as they mentioned it to me in term of tedious work. It very hard to reach down to the bottom edge for the rear back window.

Read the Yelp reviews. The number of people complaining about having the rubber seals around their windows cut is disturbing.

Here's one review:

1) My brand new car, not even 1 week old, center pillar (space between front door and rear door was dinged. He said I hit something, and it flew up. It flew backwards? And its nicked deep on one side, like a razor blade. Oh this would never happen because we do it with the door closed. I open the door and its pretty clear to see how it happened, someones hand slipped with a razor blade dinged the car yes backwards.

2) Razor blade sliced the rubber seal around the top of the window. It was already there? Really?

If I can give them zero stars, I would. California Tint, you let me down I realize accidents happen, but the least you could have done was say hey, tint on the house or you would pay for my damage.

Yes. He doesn't remember my name, but he does recognize the cars I've brought him.

FRSjeff 07-31-2012 03:46 PM

I have the same question but in the Hollywood area. Can anyone recommend a great tinting service in the 323/310 area code? Thanks!

That's why I researched Rich before going to him. He doesn't have ANY bad reviews.

He's been tinting for 30 years. He participates in tint competitions. And when you take your car to him, he's the one who is going to be tinting it (though he does now have an assistant). All the other places, you don't know if you're getting an inexperienced tinter who can damage your car. Go hang out at the forums at tintdude.com. Again, that's where the pro tinters are and Rich comes well recommended from them.

mach330 07-31-2012 04:30 PM

I personally didn't like rich. I took my 330 and had some scratches on the tint and bubbles. Maybe it's just my car.

I personally like tint plus close to Irvine bmw.

Tap'd from my G-Nex

Gaiakai 07-31-2012 05:04 PM

I recommend Direct Tint at Downey / Lakewood. They did the tint on my FR-S, pretty quick (1.5hrs for both doors + rear), and they gave me a pretty nice discount for the Color Stable tint.

I do like that he does all his own work and takes pride in it. That's a big plus.

Anyone know how they deal with the window automatically lowering when the door is open? Would they disconnect the battery?

Thank you for everyones input!

Calidrifter 07-31-2012 05:53 PM

No, they press the button to raise It ant then they unscrew the nut keeping it up until the process is reversed.

Vlad 08-06-2012 01:44 PM

Some pictures and Tint description - % ????

KlafKoon 08-06-2012 07:33 PM

Vlad 08-09-2012 04:21 PM

Looks awesome !!! Could you PM me the price you paid and how long does it takes, Please.

TemeCal 08-13-2012 03:09 PM

KlafKoon-
Your car looks great. I'd like to do something similar, but I noticed CA tint law is 70% in the front...as the darkest tint you can go. Have you ever been hassled or ticketed for the darker tint in the front? Just curious...

Thanks!

XLNT Tint in the Anaheim Hills, Yorba Linda area does great work! They have a machine that precision cuts the tint based off of the cars window specifications. They have the measurements of every car's windows and plug them into the machine. Got the GT-R tinted 5% all the way around (Except for the windshield), and when I look at the window, I can barely see where the edge of the tint ends, the cut is soo precise! I plan on taking the BRZ there as soon as I get it. They also have these badass ceramic tints too, that dissipate heat better too if anybody knows anything about those.

Here's a few shots of the car after the tint to compare 5% (Shot with iPhone):

Hey guys, just an update. I decided to go with Rich's Tint Shoppe. I booked an appointment for next week. He's all booked up until then. I'll post pictures after the install.

I had a LX570 done at Song's with ceramic tint. Cost north of $500. I don't think OP is in that price range.

nocurfew 12-06-2012 01:37 AM

Here is the finished product. 35% front, 20% in the back.

I just went to these guys, 5% rear 3 and 35% front two and I'm pretty satisfied.
There seems to be some kinda scratches on the tints for the driver's window though .. I'll call them in tomorrow.
They said it'd be 2 hours but it took them 3 hours :/
As long as that scratch thing isn't a big deal I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
Now to wait for it to cure and dry :)
Was $205 for their cheapest option for 5 windows .. meh

jrodz09 02-01-2013 08:42 PM

Anyone done their tint job at G5? They have excellent reviews on Yelp. Was also looking at California Tint..
