Victory Function fenders
I purchased a set of Victory Function wide fenders, had a shop quote me $1200 to paint and install which includes blending into the doors, my paint is Pearl white 37J.
Is is mandatory to get the doors blended? |
Lol paint blending. Yeah that a nice way of saying let's charge you more and hope you will not notice.
It's part of their sales trick. Why charge a little or just the fenders when you can charge them two doors and hood. I'll just shop around. Or get them to just do the fenders. |

I mean if you don't mind your fenders looking visibly off than the rest of your car then no blending is needed. All the whites for the FRS/BRZ are notoriously hard to match and the clear coat fading/yellowing due to UV is much more apparent than other colors.
|
IMO, blending is mandatory for a seamless look. Shop around see what other places quote. Look at before and after photos of their work. Make your decision based on local info.
Good luck. I hope your fenders get painted to your satisfaction. |
Blending is not a scam. Ask any painter, any real painter. It doesn't matter if it's visible only from an inch or a mile; non matching is non matching
|
lmao I'm only here for the "blending is a scam" comment hahaha
|
Dam, you guys got taken for chumps.
Don't you think I have talked to a automotive painter before? Is it hard to paint match, yes but it can be done. Everyone is tying to make a buck. You want proof, look at any Wheeler Dealers episode. They get away with painting just one part. Cause they know what they are doing. |
mr. google-fu against the world
I'm already looking forward to the sequel:popcorn: |
Color looked good on my tv so blending is a rip-off, yup you’re an idiot.

I worked at a paint shop for years. The best painters ( I am really talking about the best) blend. It works. Can't believe this is being discussed. Paint fades, you have to blend.

Yeah I can't believe it's being not discussed. There are short cuts all round. Some do a proper job some just want to make more money for less work. Just like dealerships charging over $100+ for oil changes and filters. |

Many shops ARE dishonest. |
it's entirely up to you and your preference.
metal flake paints like the white or the blue are very susceptible to variances. laying down the paint in slightly different ways will make the metal flake lay differently, making the light reflect differently, which will change the shade it appears at certain angles or light sources. blending reduces that effect by smoothing what would be a 'hard seam' between 2 differently colored panels by smoothly transitioning between the 2 metal flake transitions. |

Both are correct. It depends on the age of the paint and the quality of the person matching the paint. Blending is for matching old paint to new or covering up a shitty match.
