Trailer for my Nina - 2013 Scion Frs (M O D S) & More.

So in a nutshell.
We went on a road trip a few months ago to pick up a trailer. Picked it up from Edmonton.. I live within Durham in Ontario. Crazy, but crazy wicked.
Its called: Prolite Suite, ours is only 2 years old. Weighs in at said 550lb dry weight. (Since update/reno to install cabinets and tv, etc add another 85lb give or take 5-10lb lol)Ive got a hitch (bought and installed with the right tools, myself).
Have a look.
Have Questions, ask below.

We got it upgraded so the inside looks like this on one end and a bed on the other(UPGRADES PENDING).

We have 4 x 100Watt Solar Panels here going to be putting them on the roof (only 3 will probably fit) this coming summer. 2 x 12/24v Solar Controllers and all the wiring.

After that, new trailer vinyl wrappings/decals (already arrived) are going to be installed (wife don't like skulls like I do) and perforated black window tinting on all windows (also already arrived) .. Dang winter. Im lazy. The solar pannels will be installed by my trusted friends at Roulottes Prolite in Laval, Montreal who always get the job done right the first time.

Thread will be updated as time goes on.

Cool, am I seeing things?!?, it looks bigger inside than on the outside?

humfrz 11-19-2018 01:05 AM

Interesting.

* does it have electric brakes?

* how does it effect your fuel mileage?

* how well does it "follow"?

Your wife must be more "flexible" than mine - no way mrs humfrz would sleep in that thing - :(

Not good for me because I could never back that rig up without backing into something - :eyebulge:

No, I'm not going to ask the question "why drive a "sports car" if you're gonna drag that thing around behind it"?

Love the little trailer, It looks really fun! I have wondered if anyone was pulling a camper with their twin.

My wife and I met a couple with a vintage lil' Scotty last summer. It was really cool!

Three bedrooms.
One bathroom with full size tub.
Normal houshold appliances.
Fireplace.
HD satellite.
Total bitch to tow with the FRS.

* does it have electric brakes? -no

* how does it effect your fuel mileage? -depending on where i place the majority of the weight, it does about 300km per tank (picked up the trailer from alberta. tested facts)

* how well does it "follow"? -almost feels like nothing is behind me, follows well.

Your wife must be more "flexible" than mine - no way mrs humfrz would sleep in that thing .. -youd be surprised. its much more spacious then it looks

No, I'm not going to ask the question "why drive a "sports car" if you're gonna drag that thing around behind it"? -well, because people said it could not be done. and.. im not buying another car just to be able to go camping/road trips. i have a 6mo old daughter and I want to keep her from getting sucked into the social media crap as she gets older. the plus side to this is that everyones eyes are stuck like glue to my trailer as we drive past them.. its no joke, lol.

-also,I have the tags so that search engines can find this thread and my hope is that I am able to reach more viewers and inspire those whom are wondering on the plausibility that such a setup even works. not everyone is on this fourm and for people new to this field of thought, I'm sure they appreciate it, its always scary being the first one to do something this wild.

humfrz 11-21-2018 12:31 AM

MRT, thanks for addressing my questions.

As they say, to each his own. Story time (short).

Between 6 and 10 years ago my brother and his wife and my wife and I, were doing quite a bit of long distance traveling. We were all in our 60s.

He traveled with a large pickup truck pulling a large 5th wheel trailer. His trailer even had a "garage" in the back of it, where he housed his Honda Valkyrie (read large) motorcycle.

mrs humfrz and I traveled in a NC Miata.

Our trips (not traveling together - for obvious reasons) would last from 2-4 weeks and range from 5-10,000 miles.

Yep, different traveling styles for different folks fer sure.

I have pulled both single axle and dual axle trailers (behind HD pickup trucks), for thousands of miles. I have found that everything is OK - as long as everything is OK - iffen ya get ma drift.

Well, have fun on your adventures and be safe -

oh yeah, pay no attention to the temp hitch supports, one bolt, one beer, one bolt, one beer

MRT 11-21-2018 02:30 PM

yes, my thoughts exactly. if these cars are considered doable with children ie. babies in the back seat.. why the heck not? :) the 1000lb tow limit, my hitch can widstand 2000lb if im not mistaken and I am a father to a newborn, always drive safe when we go on trips. slow and steady is the trick. if anything goes wrong. the guys and girls on this fourm will be the first to know.

isnt that cool or what. Im still shocked everytime i enter the thing. its parked inside my garage for the winter even though the dealer says it should be fine outside. Prolite trailers are quite versatile.

soundman98 11-22-2018 10:31 PM

interesting. every year at the rv show, i start thinking about this, but i don't like how low the permanent-mount trailer hitch hangs on the car...

what kind of tongue weight does it have?

any need for helper springs?

I believe the tongue weight limit is 200lb
and well, my car is 2013, never has had the springs changed so I was thinking about upgrading the springs to something much more sturdy and able to withstand the additional load perhaps next year..

*Update* unfortunate news... Might be selling my frs. If anybody is interested. pm. I will not go into price on this thread.

My wife works at an RV/trailer dealership and they sell a half dozen or so of a trailer similar to these each year. I don't know much about them but I asked and they have sold them to people with Miata's, Twins and other such cars with no changes except a hitch so they must work OK. Piles of guys haul tire trailers with them without changing springs or beefing things up. MRT is not nearly the trail blazer nor in the unique position he seems to think he is.

Thanks for the bubble pop but with all due respect. I didnt feel special, infact the information your telling me is what I actually baised my purchase towards the trailer on. Take this in.. the guy i purchased the trailer from(in alberta) had this hitched to his 3 wheel hot lava slingshot. The coolest little thing ever, he was a biker. So I'm sure there are others, just made the post for the twin users other there since I couldnt find one for the twins (dont care to go hunting as if this were a court matter and I needed law to reference or previous caselaw) but thanks for you inspiring motivational uplifting speach there guy. Anyway, lol.

Not yet friend.. not that she has told me. It's just that I feel like she wants a bigger vehicle but wont say it. I love her dearly and want to always keep her as happy as I can. I wasnt always the greatest guy and so it has me thinking. Also my dad is rooting for #teamswitchcars so meh.

Does she have a "family vehicle" to drive?

You may be onto something about her not saying anything about a small car, especially when traveling with a baby.

If that's the case, you should "speak" for her. For example, the baby is crying in the back seat, she twists and turns and struggles to get the pacifier back into its mouth, but doesn't say anything - that's where you need to speak for her "maybe we should get a bigger vehicle while the child is small"?

Oh, yes, I've tried it - OK for short trips or till their legs go numb - :D

i do find them interesting. i know they ought to be selling, as there's at least 6 different variants of that style trailer that i know of. though i've never seen anymore than 1 at any time i've gone camping. they're curious, minimalist, little trailers, but i'm much happier in a hybrid with a working toilet!

My idea of minimalist camping is when the high def satellite channels are not coming in and I have to watch the shows in standard.

Likewise here, our idea of minimalist camping is having to get a motel room that the name of the motel has a number in it.

Dake 11-25-2018 11:08 AM

I for one think it's a great compromise if it can be done safely, and it looks like it can. If you manage to go camping four times a year (and that's a lot for most), you still don't need the big hauler the rest of the time.

In a similar vein, I was looking at buying a beater pick-up for those rare occasions when I needed one, but wound up just buying a 5x8 trailer instead. Cheaper in every way, does the job when I need it, and I leave it locked up and out of the way at work the rest of the time. I tow it behind my wife's little Yaris.

Anyway, congrats on the setup though sorry it may not last.

'safety' is such a relative term.

in europe:
https://tinboxtraveller.co.uk/wp-con...n-1000x660.jpg

in america, few would ever even consider pulling a trailer of that size without anything smaller than a 1/2-ton full-size truck.

Haha right?

YA but it also the place where massive SUVs are "needed" to pick up groceries.
