Subaru/Toyota Coupe spotted in Socal with Subaru Plates

My coworker's friend spotted this on a socal freeway. It's the Subaru/Toyota coupe for sure. What's interesting is that it wears the same plate as the subaru mule spotted in socal a while back.

4agze 05-18-2011 10:11 PM

Looks like we saw on the nur ring any more maybe the front

xantonin 05-18-2011 10:34 PM

If I saw that in my area, I would not stop following that car.

Dead serious. I'd probably get in trouble too, but I don't care lol

cyde01 05-18-2011 10:36 PM

hot damn!!!!!! imma keep my eyes pealed when i'm on the fwy!!!!

Want.FR-S 05-18-2011 10:52 PM

Now, was that TRDLiquidSilver at the helm of that tester? It seems that Toyota/Subaru are testing two cars in both the ring and SoCal.....

Edit: and just notice this now, is that a white Caymen just in front of that Ford pickup truck? A highway performance comparison between Caymen and FT-86????

If so that sucks cause not only did the Caymen kick our butt but also the F150. Oh well.
;)

dalli 05-18-2011 11:35 PM

It depends on what they are testing. I would think they are torture testing it to see if it can survive So Cal traffic :bellyroll:. In that case it is winning :w00t: IMHO!

Call the So Cal auto spy photo anonymous organization! There has to be more where this came from!

OldSkoolToys 05-19-2011 12:04 AM

Interesting indeed...

Can someone confirm this isn't bogus? I'm being skeptical....its what I do sometimes.

If it is true, this car is super close to production ready. Liquidsilver wasn't kidding.

Flip 05-19-2011 12:04 AM

I still think it has the same rear fender curves as the FR-S. You can kind of see it.

iff2mastamatt 05-19-2011 12:11 AM

THEY'RE COMING. FR-S' are popping up everywhere, this is insane!

Giccin 05-19-2011 12:18 AM

Looks like the 405. O_O

iff2mastamatt 05-19-2011 12:24 AM

Other than a funky sat nav, no spoiler, and no fog light (where the "diffuser" is) can any one else spot any differences than the other prototypes?

Aki 05-19-2011 12:24 AM

170 fwy maybe?

Oooh, I would've tailed it to no end, then sneak interior pics while they're at the gas station of restaurant =) I love it without the rear spoiler. Looks almost italian.

blur 05-19-2011 12:31 AM

**big grin**
:happyanim:

Good news seeing it in the US. You know what it means? Its either the Scion version or the Subaru . . .

NikostC 05-19-2011 12:35 AM

Woohoo! Almost here people! LOL
Does this mean the US will get the exact same version as in europe and in Japan?

That's what it looks like. I wish they could've given the rear tail lights a different shape but oh well. :iono:

It doesn't have the spoiler from the Nurburgring spy pics (the first set, not the one with the STI-looking wing).

Franisco 05-19-2011 12:50 AM

True. ^ I meant the one from yesterday. It doesnt have the body kit and spoiler

xantonin 05-19-2011 12:53 AM

Why did you say with Subaru plates?

Franisco 05-19-2011 12:54 AM

Look at the second picture. It has the same plates as the mix and match first test mule

Ahh I see now, for some reason I skipped that image. Thanks.

Fortunate Few 05-19-2011 12:57 AM

i woulda jizzed my pants and got in a reck if i seen that on the road. what city/freeway was that on?

ftw-86 05-19-2011 12:57 AM

I have to keep my eyes peeled now. For some reason, these test drivers like to drive down pch. The other day I saw benz in camo eating at holy mole. The other month was a Land Rover in camo.

Most likely the 405.

4agze 05-19-2011 12:58 AM

we need to put FT86club on the pic before autoblog and other auto magazine takes own of it

xravexboix 05-19-2011 01:22 AM

It's likely the 405. Toyota HQ in Torrance and TRD/Toyota Regional Office/Technical Center in Irvine, both are off the 405. Time to do some snooping around w corp. sources, hahaha.

FINALLY, someone came out and said it. Every time I come onto the boards I'm hoping WoW doesn't post, because I shudder at the sight of it.

Edit: Well, I didn't get what WoW originally meant by his post with the attached photo on the previous page because I didn't stare at it long enough... I get it now. If we ever meet in person, remind me to punch you please.

Dark 05-19-2011 02:17 AM

Dammit, How am I supposed to sleep tonight?

R_E_L 05-19-2011 02:23 AM

gotta say im surprised that its the same car as the one that we saw in germany. after seeing the differences in concept models i expected there to be 2 distinct (US vs EUR) versions. that or this is still just testing the very basic characteristics of the body before finalizing the design.

does anyone know toyo's usual MO for these kind of things? i gotta be on the look out in case it drives by o_o

also, note how there is no spoiler whatsoever on this one, not even the little one.

Are you sure it's the same car? I don't see why they wouldn't have more than one model for testing.

Maybe someone can compare the swirly patterns?
