Cool story bro!

Trojan_SC 07-28-2012 11:02 PM

Yeah...I feel you on that. I just laugh at them.

DeepHunta 07-28-2012 11:13 PM

stupid straight line racers. Let them go on corners and see who will win that race. 99% of the time; win = BRZ/FR-S. People forget that a legit race also involves cornering, sheesh.

because race car

Hix 07-29-2012 12:04 AM

I just tap the gas then let them fly by. Easy way to get rid of the idiots.

wallace03 07-29-2012 12:25 AM

just get a fake badge and flash it at them.

Wes 07-29-2012 12:38 AM

lol i only had 1 person so far that tried racing, it was an acura rsx, he revved at me and took off, i just ignored him hahah

if you just ignore them, there isnt much they can do and will eventually go away.. hopefully lol

NRGBalanced 07-29-2012 12:39 AM

During my vacation, I had a guy on a crotch rocket pull up alongside me on the highway (after following me for two miles) and point first to my car, then to his bike. I gave him a thumbs-up because at the time I didn't realize he was signaling for a race.
In heavy traffic. Against a motorcycle. :bonk:

Another time I went to pass a newish Camaro on a clear straight in the backwoods of Maine. As soon as I came even with his rear bumper, he started matching me rev for rev, until I ran out of road. He was a jerk, but I started cracking up because I'd obviously thrown down the gauntlet or something! Fool then did 10 under the speed limit.

I found another road around him, beat him to the end of it, and honked as I drove past him in the opposite direction :D

I think you need to replace the Prius tires before you can claim that. 0.91 g in corners is nothing to bragg about. But with some sticky rubber and good coilovers you will be tough to follow on a twisty road.

So far this has only happened once. I was minding my own business on a straight stretch of Indiana State highway when I noticed a Chevy Trailblazer SS pulling up to my left and he began jumping on and off the gas.

Even dropped it down a gear! I just ignored him and after a while he punched it and roared off.

Opie 07-30-2012 12:23 PM

Me too...

At a stoplight I'll give a little rev, then when the light turns green I just let them race off...on the road I just ignore them...

DrDuquette 07-30-2012 12:46 PM

A little off topic but this is a great story. Came to a stoplight with my RC51 (1000cc v-twin honda) and a neon turbo pulls next to me. Wife and two kids in the car too. He tried to race me. Reved his engine a few time. So I felt like making him look like an idiot that day. He took off as fast as that little car could go. I left it in first while he was going through the gears and stayed wheel to wheel to hear him beat up his car. Then at about 65 I went into second and took off. It was fun. What is going through that idiots mind?

Lytheum 07-30-2012 02:03 PM

i dont understand why anyone would street race with children in the car! that just screams i dont care about my family.

Jayde 07-30-2012 04:04 PM

I don't think anyone has tried to race me. If they do, I'll just ignore them. Save that for the track imo.

86design 07-30-2012 05:34 PM

i agree...today going over to my gf house a gen coupe was honking and revving there engine so I would race them...ppsshhh no thanks....

Mo707 07-30-2012 07:06 PM

You get used to it. I'm always on the highway and it happens like 2-3 times a day. sometimes more. Just laugh at them. they'll get all upset. haha

JACK 8URT0N 07-30-2012 07:14 PM

I get fly-bys every day. You guys knew this would happen. Don't take the bait.

xwd 07-30-2012 08:11 PM

Yeah some guy in a vinyl wrapped Jetta today with a fart can almost hit someone today trying to do a fly-by in the middle of rush hour.

RAN94A 07-30-2012 11:22 PM

im gonna wait till there's a couple more supercharger kits developed before i think about taking anyone on :P

and then laugh when they're like... how did i just lose to that..

I know what you mean man!! By my house we have an interchange that veers off to the right so that people dont have to get over 5 lanes to get on a different freeway. Everyone trys to race me before i get to that part of the freeway but i hold off and then when i get close to it i spank the shit out of them, (nobody ever uses this part of the freeway its pretty open even if traffic is dead stop) it has some sick turns and they just cant hang with me.

Texas BRZ 07-31-2012 12:07 AM

Send them a special invitation to the local track... So they can release that extra energy at a proper playground!

S2kphile 07-31-2012 12:24 AM

Next time someone tries to race you do what Letty does...

Smart man!

ill86 07-31-2012 08:36 AM

When this happens I invite them to the track. They never accept.

grst1 07-31-2012 08:59 AM

I have a bigger problem with minivans, SUVs, corolla's, camry's, elantra's etc trying to squeeze me off the road when 2 lanes merge into 1. A lot of these roads around here and most of merges happen right after the stoplights. I have to take off reasonably fast not to be in a position having nowhere to go...
I think there was only one ricer whom I had to ignore so far revving engine at me on the stoplight.

ngabdala 07-31-2012 09:12 AM

Knowing how long to keep the car in it's current gear and when to downshift should eliminate any competition trying to beat you on an onramp

Most drivers will not give you the courtesy of being able to merge in which says alot about the state of our culture. Since your car is small its more about learning to look for an opening to get into than trying to beat the traffic. I have never found a line of traffic without at least one or two slow reacting drivers that leave a nice gap for merging purposes.

This is not a car to try to beat traffic with in a straight line. Everyone who goes into owning this car should have that mindset upfront.

Please do not try to beat people while going around corners. That is even more dangerous to do on the street than straight line. Save your skills for the track.

This is a sports car by definition and therefore you will get people looking to race you. It the nature of owning a sports car. Be the more sensible guy and ignore them.

WRXGuy1 08-01-2012 11:25 AM

Just as annoying is when you are stopped and someone asks you how fast the car is 0-60.

BioRage 08-01-2012 11:54 AM

Now if I only had that 2JZ 86....

wbradley 08-01-2012 12:08 PM

Here in Ontario (Canada, for those that think it's Cali) we have a stunt driving law. On 400-series highways (major freeways) where the posted speed limit is 100 kph (62 mph) if you are caught exceeding the speed by 50km (31m) then you lose your car on the spot.

We are talking loss of title to the vehicle and a big fine. Up to $10,000.00 and of course implications on your ability to drive for a few years. I have seen a few people being hoisted onto a flatbed in the past year or two. A friend of a friend lost a pretty late model Porsche that way.

So, they can race me all by themselves if they like. :party0030:

sbxjap 08-01-2012 01:16 PM

what I wanna do is put a Darth Vader/ Storm Trooper helmet in the passenger seat...

then when someone wants to play racer, I can drop back or speed up, put on the helmet... then get besides them...

My friends and I did this a few years ago with a borrows Vader mask in a street race. When he pulled up to the line, right before the signal, he dropped his window and looked over .... the look on the other guy's face was priceless, and he didn't see the signal, lol...

Dave-ROR 08-01-2012 02:24 PM

I've yet to be "revved" on or had anyone try to race me as far as I can remember.
