Interior features you would like to change
I know we all universally want a better headunit and sound system from the factory in any given model year of our cars. What I want to ask is with the features we do have inside the car, are there some you would like to change or "behave" a certain way?
Here are a few examples: - The instrument cluster: have the numbers light up too! It's weird that only the needle lights up during daytime driving. - When I turn my headunit display off, I want it to stay that way even with music playing. When I try to skip a song, the display has to turn on first before I can actually skip. Why can't I skip songs with the display off?! Numerous cars I've driven in the past can do this or just show one line of info (song information) then goes blank again. - An option that can disable the steering wheel controls. Be cool if it can be linked with Track Mode. Reason for this is when you want to "serious drive" or on an actual track and don't have to worry about accidentally hitting any of the buttons while steering. It's no big deal but I think the subconscious effort is there in the back of your mind to avoid that area of the steering wheel. This option frees up that little bit of worry so you can focus on the drive. - Track mode: This is more "because racecar!" than anything but I would've like that when you activate Track Mode or All-off, the gauges turn red instead of turning those little orange warning/hazard lights on. Think CR-Z gauge. Again, more for theatrics than anything. -The TPMS. At least put an active one in that gauge display where you can see the tire pressure on all four wheels change over time instead of just lighting up whenever it gets low and not tell you which tire. It can replace the G-meter that goes away when you try to use it. My dad's 2007 TSX has this feature. Figured it would be helpful even if it is not exactly accurate to the single PSI. What would you like changed about the interior features? |
Seeing individual tire pressures would be neat, although most folks with dedicated track wheels leave TPMS on the stock/street wheels.
I would like to see oil pressure instead of voltage. One half cooked thing is the km/mph button, it only changes the displayed speed. It should change many more settings to metric such as water temp and oil temp in Celsius, outside temp in Celsius, climate control in Celsius, etc. It would be nice to move the redline to 7,800 or whatever for folks who have their redline changed. |
An easy-to-use cupholder.
|
There should be a factory rear seat delete that adds functional storage for a couple small tool boxes on track days or just in general (jumper pack/cables, socket and ratchet set, McDonald's food)
|
Seeing oil pressure in the gauge cluster would be neat.
Steering wheel being a little thicker would be nice. |
I'd like the steering wheel to telescope about 2" closer to the driver. I installed a deeper steering wheel, but it's still not close enough to be completely comfortable during long drives.

Oh, and sliding or extending sun visors. I'll never understand why this car comes with sun visors that don't extend on the side to actually block the sun.
|
As mentioned above, a thicker steering wheel would be awesome. I really liked the feel and thickness of the 2014 tC steering wheel that I owned prior. Especially being someone with larger hands.
Covered storage space in the console somehow would be nice. |
- Doors that stay open
- Doors that don't have rattle when turning the music up (at all) - Locking mechanism when sliding the passenger seat forward to access the rear seat like most 2 seaters have |

I would love to be able to customize the LCD on the 17+ models. I would like Nav info / audio info in there like the Audis have.

personally I wish the traction/VSC modes (mainly the off mode) stay on each time the car starts up. Oil temp/pressure readout from stock instruments would be cool to have. |
A real, usable, nice looking armrest. The nice looking factory job is way too low for practical use, and then you lose the cupholder use....really, the passenger side flip doesn't seem too practical and extra flimsy IMO.
The front-back sliding scion accessory looks awful and basically so does every other option IMO. |

Oh this reminds me. The NA (first gen up to 93) Miata has a functional oil pressure gauge. People were basically idiots and complained about the gauge doing its job (showing the pressure fluctuating) so they "removed" it from 94+ and replaced it with a "constant" (idiot light) pressure gauge. I don't believe the average joe is any more auto-educated nowadays than they were back then to bring it back without going through the same complaints, unfortunately. |

And it's not "a little sun peeking through." The back third of the side window, where my head is located, is not covered AT ALL. Living at a low latitude in a relatively flat state, the angle of the sun is a problem almost year round. Being 6', I can't sit forward to put my eyes in the shade, so a good chunk of my 25K to 30K miles per year are driven with the sun burning out my left eye even with sunglasses on. |

I think the main ask I'd have would be a memory driver's seat, if only for those times when service changes my car and I have to fiddle with the back-and-forth dance to get the pedal/foot distance just right again.

The rattle in the door is caused by the switch box. It has a plastic cover on it that has a bunch of free play. I think they designed it intentionally to bug us. Hahaha. I used duct tape around the switch box and the rattle went away.

My main complaints were:
-Lack of armrest/covered storage area. I resolved both of these issues by installing the OEM armrest. The cup holders are still useable... I don’t know why everybody claims that they aren’t. It doesn’t really matter for me anyway because I only drink water and the bottle fits in the door perfectly. -Terrible factory head unit. I resolved this by installing an aftermarket head unit with Android Auto/CarPlay. The head unit (along with a Maestro RR) also displays individual tire pressure and temperature readings, along with various other data available through the OBD2 system. -A small nit to pick, I wish that the G-force meter found in 17+ BRZs was viewable while the car is in motion. I’m sure it’s a liability thing, but it would be no more distracting than other info that can be seen like the fake dyno meter. -I wish that the seats had more adjustability, like adjustable side bolsters for example. |

Lock when you drive, and lumbar support adjuster
|
Things I wish I could have had from the factory:
* radio delete * rear seat delete * oil pressure gauge * extending sun-visors * thicker steering wheel (my '14 was nicer than the '17) * one-button fully disable ECS/TC/etc without ice mode issues pedal dance has Things I'm really glad they didn't bother with: * armrest * 'premium' sound system * electric adjusting seats Mostly, no useless weight. I don't mind if they're options - I get why people want touring car comforts - I'm really glad I have heated seats, for example (so nice racing when it's damn chilly, and road tripping) |

If you monitor the engine temp using Torque or an aftermarket gauge, it can be disconcerting the first time you're driving in traffic and see the temp swing 30° up and down as you stop and go. If you leave your A/C on all the time, the fan will kick on and keep it around 190° to 195°. If you turn the A/C OFF, you'll stay around 190° while you're moving and quickly rise to 220° when you stop. But the needle on the gauge on the dash will never move. |

A factory arm rest that we don't have to checkbox a $400 option for.
Black, or gunmetal brush trim pieces rather than the silver. I hate it, and how I sometimes get glare from the trim pieces hitting my eye in the sun. |

All that would probably add a hundred pounds though, a lot in the usual extra drivers in a premium sound setup. I still have a set of seats with all the goodies from one of my other Neons and they weigh a ton. And I had to think hard about the heated seats. I also road trip in the car, so those are nice, especially since I like it ten degrees cooler than my wife does... I'll fix the stereo myself... Really, I was very happy there's no useless crap I hate that I had to get. |
My 17 could use:
Flocked dash Fixed seats Rear seat delete option 1/2 cage, harness bar and 6 point harnesses Kill switch Oil pressure Fire extinguisher Which I can do all myself, I think the interior if fine for a cheap RWD little sports car |

Wrapped mine in brushed Black metallic, in my build thread. Main things for me without jacking up the price are the sliding visor as others have said. And would be nicer not to have the 80's orange clock Otherwise its an interior for a basic lightweight vehicle without much extra crap in it to add weight. Exactly why I bought it. You guys crying Apple play or whatever can just go add an aftermarket head unit. One thing I would pay extra for I love having in my 20 year old Vette is the Heads Up Display. Makes it easy to keep your eyes on the road. |

I don’t care if the seats are power adjustable... just adding manual lumbar and bolster adjustment won’t add anywhere near 100 lbs. |

“You guys crying” about things like a clock can just put a piece of tape over it or cut the power to it :slap: |
would rather do something like this
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75181 But simply put a battery voltage display https://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-Mini-DC-...x3lA:rk:4:pf:0 |
Cupholders are horrible on these cars lol super tiny and annoying when driving. An armrest would be nice as well not to mention the sound system. I would've loved buttons on the steering wheel too...just little nit picky things I can live without honestly. I love the car for what it is-a true driver's car! But yeah things could be better lol
