i wonder where that muscle car would have ended up if they hit a curve a 60 mph :-) i'm sure that banshee engine would quiet down pretty quickly :happy0180:

Turbowned 07-28-2012 08:56 PM

Talk about instigating a gunfight with a knife, lol. Street racing is dumb. Street racing a Cobra is especially dumb.

even with all that power :-O

Foobar 07-28-2012 09:11 PM

Assuming it wasn't just the usual internet storytelling seen on all enthusiast forums (ours included), I really doubt the BRZ driver thought he could do anything against a Cobra. Probably just wanted to hear its awesome engine roar.

Sony 07-28-2012 09:15 PM

Seriously +1 to the OP... people like this need to stop making us look like a douchebags.

It was probably some prick on a test drive...thought it would be fun to show off to his girl. Judging by the description...sounds like someone who would be perfect for Jersey Shore.

lol i was thinking the same

Sure the BRZ is underpowered now, but in a few months they will be some new goodies to put under the hood to make it a banshee of its own :)

dyim 07-28-2012 09:37 PM

This is why most forums ban 'kill' stories. 0-60 or 1/4 mile is only one aspect of evaluating a car's performance. People dwell on it too much some times because it is easy to compare.

We all buy different cars for different reasons.

Also right now i feel the people in this thread so far are preferring the benefit of a doubt to one person over another for improper reasons.
A little bit of impartiality would not do any harm until that person who wikiweaks is speaking of can come give HIS version of the story.

And there is nothing groundbreaking about pressing on the gas peddle in a straight line,it's obvious it's not a drivers race at that point given the huge difference in the power that both those engines are producing :-)

Lonewolf 07-28-2012 11:34 PM

Who cares? Many of those guys on that site think their Stang can take the space shuttle :bellyroll:

Bang for buck, the mustang is a great platform. Fast in a straight line and can be made to handle for less than an 86 can be made to accelerate. Street racing is dangerous, and 86 drivers need to understand that while they've bought a very fun car to drive, it's only "fast" when measured against some very limited metrics.

WRB BRZ 07-29-2012 02:51 AM

As my first post I would like to say that this was not me haha. I have yet to see a BRZ or an FR-S in the wild but I know there are a few here.

bestwheelbase 07-29-2012 03:13 AM

Those Cobras sound badass with the proper exhaust. Maybe the BRZ driver just wanted to crack the window and enjoy the V8?

Every modern sports car, barring a few Mustangs, sports some form of IRS. This includes the FRS/BRZ. The IRS Cobra was only criticized for suffering from wheel hop during drag starts, a typical byproduct of IRS. This concerned the typical mustang enthusiast as drag racing is a larger part of that culture, but made the car shine on road racing circuits. Or maybe I missed some sarcasm in your post.

I think you meant to say LRA and not IRS.

ngabdala 07-29-2012 08:43 AM

You sir are correct. My apologies to the OP

You didn't. Another reply to that comment pointed out, I made an error and should have written LRA not IRS. My error, my apology to the OP

Have you been on any car forum lately besides this one? I honestly can't stand reading more than a handful of posts. They always hate their "fellow" members and use such rude words. That's why I love ft86club

I hate you. ;)

jeebus 07-29-2012 10:52 PM

I find it hard to believe that anyone with a BRZ would try to race a cobra.

MiguelAE86 07-29-2012 10:55 PM

Honestly, the fact that these "sports car owners" don't know anything about the BRZ or FR-S says a LOT about the Scion/Subaru Marketing Departments in the U.S.!

If it were me, i would personally make a marketing campaign around the fact that Subaru+Toyota came together to make these cars, much like in the same spirit of the Olympic Games currently going on. (people coming together, etc.) It doesn't have to be Olympic-Themed, but have a voice-over saying a witty remark regarding the connection.

But oh well, what do i know, I'm just a teenager.

MmmHamSandwich 07-29-2012 11:00 PM

BRZ driver probably just wanted to see the Cobra go. Just putting your foot down in an 86 ought to tell you it's going to be eaten alive by any muscle car in a drag race.

I like the "Nice Kill" comments. Aside from the street racing aspect, that's not very brag worthy if you ask me.
On an unrelated note, I microwaved a burrito earlier guys, took mad skill yo. Hit it with a devastating "Quick Minute." Didn't stand a chance against my baby's 1200 watts.

Wished they had put the STI turbo motor and AWD system into that car.
They did, it's called... an STi...

First of all, I think once a SC is available the cost of "go fast" for the 86 will be on par with the cost to make a Mustang "turn".

Second, it might be a great bang for the buck but so is marrying an ugly girl, doesn't mean I want to. It's nice to have a wife you aren't ashamed to take out in public.

If I wasn't against using quotes in my sig, this would be there. Smart man.

So I don't ever do this (much less post about it), but while I was taking out my WRX the other day between sandwich breaks, I ran across a silver Prius. Those of you who live in the bay area know what I'm talking about. I kept seeing him staring at me at the stop light, like he wanted some of this. I guess he heard me as I rolled up to the light, with my sick Boxer rumble.

But anyway, I'll make this short and sweet. He decided to mess with me, turning off his engine and sipping his soy latte like the mother earth he was, even though I'm chillin with my E40 on. I really didn't want to embarrass him in front of who I'm guessing was his hot girlfriend, but he just rubbed me the wrong way with his polo shirt and rugged good looks. So we gunned it at the green light and well... I'll let you finish the rest. After that, he didn't try anything again.

I think I hit 35 before he even let off the brakes, and I just DESTROYED that thing by lengths that would even boggle Bill Nye's mind. It's like it didn't even move. Why did they even put such weak engines in those things? Now I understand that they were made for mileage and efficiency, but what a POS otherwise.

After that, I patted myself on the back. I felt good. Like I was awesome. No, wait...I AM awesome.

[end of spoof. this is a fake story. just poking fun at the OP's link's OP.]

And somewhere out there on a Prius forum (it must exist, right?), they are talking about those Subaru assholes driving all fast and thinking we're so awesome and talking shit about them while they try on that new polo they just bought and sip their soy lattes. ;)

In all seriousness, this forum has overall been very chill. I've seen people butt heads with each other and tempers flare at times, but its been mostly positive.

It really is chill, compared to other forums I've been on. It's a great community to be a part of.

Heh, the rev limiter on those things is only 4000 or so, because they wanted to cut costs (okay, and a tiny bit of friction) by weakening all the engine components. That's why they have like, 80 horsepower.

YukiHachiRoku 07-30-2012 05:52 AM

and his first response is a flame from a camaro guy on his forums, lol that's rich.
