Version 2.0 My 2013 Series 10 FRS

2 Attachment(s)
Back when these first came out in 2012/2013 I got the very first MT off the truck from my local dealer in Tustin, CA. A Silver FRS. Loved the car and it was my first real sports car. I was 27ish at the time. I just started getting into cars after being a computer nerd my entire life(Hell its still my day job to this day). Took care of it, did some modifications, took it to a few track days. Then life happens as you gain more responsibilities in life other things that are not seen as core requirements(the FRS). I began to focus on my life, job, G/F then(now wife) plus as you move up in your professional life, you begin to get more pressure. Well a part of me did not deal with it well so I sold the car.

Over the next few years I bounced between a few different cars. Drove a 93 Alero, had a nice Focus ST MY 16 but traded that in 2 years ago when I got my wife a Ford Flex as a family hauler. I was going to take over Honda Fit. In hind sight I should have kept the Focus ST and gotten rid of the Fit(it was old and needed some work) Anyways fast forward to this year in July i was toying around the Idea of getting me a fun car again. The wife agreed just we both agreed this was gonna be it for a long time... and it needed to make sense $$$ wise(No car does but as best I could without over spending) Started looking at cheap NB Mitia's but cleans ones were hard to come by. So I took it off the list. Started looking at SV550 Mustangs with PP but as much as the power was fun and RWD... something was missing. One night my wife said just go get another twin. She said you always talk about how you regretted selling it. As I though about it the 13/14's are starting to hit that price point that was just right... but the key was finding a clean un-modded and well taken care of car. After about 2 weeks this series 10 popped up. Pictures looked good. Went down to dealership, test drove it again remember why I love these cars so much... An hour later paper work done and I left for home in my new to me FRS.

Then 4 days later some jack ass swiped my car at a costco or Winco. Super pissed... eventually I will get it fixed but its 100% cosmetic and kinda hard to notice unless up close.

Power Mods up First

5 Attachment(s)
I decided I wanted to do my bolt-ons right. I learned what was needed and what was not from modding my first car: So I decided to do the following first on my mods list: Tune, Header, and sound. I decided to do all three together but this time I was not going to mess with anything after the header and only do an axle back. The header is what gives you the most gain anyways... everything has very little gain, more noise, and more spots to have an exhaust leak. Thus I decided on the following combo:

Headers: Tomie UEL seemed to be the best bang for your buck on the UEL side new(besides Gruppe-S which had an unknown ETA)

Exhaust: I wanted an axleback but not a muffler delete which really left not many choices so I went 2.5in 5inch muffler AB from nameless. A work of art as you will see in the pictures

Tune: OFT plus a customized version from @Tor. Really dialed in the MAF and AFR so that it looks dead on under full load

https://datazap.me/u/jflogerzi/log-1...zoom=1440-1599

The car drives so smooth and love that there is no more torque dip. Should have came from the factory this way. Working on getting a few clips of the sound but I love the sound. Bit of drone at freeway speeds and a bit worse on inclines.

Appearance mods

2 Attachment(s)
This one I will make brief... I love the look of the car with a TRD Spoiler. Super clean, gives the car a nice aggressive look. I don't like wings on these cars unless its a track based car... bit to much for me. I also hate the tail lights. Love the red tom's V1 and found a super good deal on a used set. Added a beatsonic shark fin and the car has been really transformed from the rear. Clean, aggressive, but understated.

Android Auto

2 Attachment(s)
I miss Android Auto from my 2016 Focus ST. Thus when I figured out the car would not pair to my One Plus 5T via BT (I think its Android Oreo 8.0/8.1 issue) and I did not wait for PIE to maybe fix the problem, I decided to get a decent but the cheapest HU that was a double din digital only(no CD) AA head unit on crutchfield. Will be installing it this weekend. I think the SQ is fine in the stock car so I am sure this Headunit will have similar SQ as stock but with a new interface and AA. I will post my thoughts shortly after I install it.

Boost! Installed as 4/30/19. Pictures speak for themselves. But I also had my buddy who is handling the install add a Jackson Racing Dual Rad/OIL Cooler. Should have zero temp problems even at the track, Moto East Flex fuel kit, and a Jon Bond OIL CONSUMPTION PREVENTION KIT. Should be picking her up tomorrow so long as the shake-down test drive goes well. Enjoy

Does that head unit have buttons or is it all touch screen? I have been wanting to get an android auto one as well.

They are touch buttons but built into the unit and are not on-screen buttons

What made you go with BOSS? That brand is known to be chinese garbage that fails after a few months.

It was inexpensive and it seem to have decent reviews the couple of places I looked. I bought it from Cruchfield so if it does fail I will go back to them. Also the unit seems to be new so fingers crossed... Most stuff we buy is made china these days... Just because something is made in China does not automatically make it cheap.

Ok have fun. BestBuy autotechs have nothing but bad things to say about them. Good luck!

Nice initial mods. I actually just had a 1 month old set of TOM's shipped to me yesterday. Really clean tails.

jflogerzi 12-01-2018 01:51 AM

Quick update:

New Parts on the way

SPC LCA and SPC Front camber bolts
RCE Yellow Springs
lightly used OE 2017 BRZ Dampers to pair with RCE Springs

New Parts Installed
Koing Hypergrams 17x8 et40 in Matte Gray with firehawk indy 500 by firestone in 225/45/17's Good tire. under 400$ for the set and 340TQ rating.

jflogerzi 12-15-2018 01:23 AM

Major changes on the way. I have decided to purchase a SC kit by eddlebrock used from a forum member for a really good price.. so 300 WHP here I come. I will have both my Nameless AB for sale and Tomei UEL headers as I have another more mellow exhaust and with the SC kit there is little reason not to run stock header. Will have pictures up in Jan when I get to the install :)

very nice, can't wait to see the progress

jflogerzi 12-25-2018 11:38 PM

Well a slight change of plans. Sadly time was not on my side so no boost at this time. Good news all new suspension parts will get installed this week and an alignment done next week I hope. Plus getting my oem+ oil cooler installed, fresh trans and diff fluid (unknown if it's been ever changed) brake fluid flushed and replaced with motul 600 and new hybrid track and street pads at 4 corners installed. Tomei UEL header will stay for now and mxp sp catback will be installed. With the header exhaust leak fixed hopefully and the quieter catback I hope It can tame and mellow the loud cabin noise. Pictures will be in coming soon :) can't wait to do the first canyon run in the car with the new suspension bits and proper alignment :)

I love how in your introduction you say you "didn't deal with the pressure well". LMAO.
So by not dealing with the pressure you sold your car. Your options your limited: you split with your wife.

We understand. But welcome back and looking forward to what you do. I love the Series 10 gray paint.

jflogerzi 02-03-2019 05:27 PM

Sorry for the lack of updates but here is a tease of what's coming up soon. I will get some pictures of the new shoes and stance when I get it washed and the weather clears up. My family grew by one 2 weeks ago so I have been super busy supporting my wife and new baby boy. See if you can guess what this is :)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ca8e70ecdb.jpg

Track Day!

New Update:

First track day with the new setup and Twin screw. Ran big willow for the first time and man I had a blast. Favorite Turns were the long sweeper on 2 into the Apex on 3 and long sweeper from 8-9. Need more meat. Already planning to get 245's now from my 225's. Enjoy some pictures :)

jflogerzi 05-26-2019 10:51 PM

Well just wanted to share a picture of my beyond toast TOB. It happened at the track and I made it back some how idk how well over 100+ miles in some stop and go traffic.

Decided to replace the stock clutch even though there was some life left with a stage 2 daily south bend rated at 315ft of torque at the flywheel. Feels exactly like OEM. Highly recommend ithttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7a1f89d2dd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6712d2c318.jpg

wow time has flown by... but big changes for the car..

Gone is my Sprintex 210. Went to a new home with a form member. Went back to NA for reliability at the track. Doing many more events.

Added RCE SS-1 and a more aggressive alignment. -3 up front and -2.3 in the rear
New Wheels to fit wider meat in the future.

Will post some pictures and I should be posting my PB laps at various tracks. Should be fun!

What was the catalyst to remove the S/C?

Heat soak and better reliability. Even with the IC the car was still pulling timing. It was setup that was not meant to take the abuse of lapping in hotter temperatures we are used to seeing in socal

That makes sense. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun out at the track and racking up some new PBs!

Front Splitter
OEM under panels
Cusco Strut tower with MBC brace
RCE SS'1s
P3 vent gauge with E sensor add-on(can see oil, coolant, AFR, E level, IATs)

Soon to be added:
Versus Standard rear diffuser
Diff and rear suspension tunnel flat panel
Trans Tunnel under flat panel

Im going to need a quick review on those RCE coils. Plush? Harsh? How does it change the balance? More or less understeer/oversteer at the limit? Im looking for many different perspectives.

check this thread. Posted a few thoughts on Track with a full lap at Buttonwillow race track

https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=144588&page=2

On the street compared to my old setup:
OE 2017 dampers, RCE Yellows and Peddler top hats. -2.3 up from and -2.2 rear camber.

They ride better in the following ways:
On the recommended settings for street, they soak up bumps better without punishing you. Its still stiff but not over dampened. Body roll is still well controlled. Build quality is nice. To me you got 3 major players in space and price:

Flex-A by CSG
SS's by RCE
Fast Road Pro's by Annex suspension

Elliotw 05-22-2021 01:27 AM

Those hood vents are gonna look great.

Quick update:

Still have not put on my under panels but will get to it eventually get to it. No track time atm due to heat so I am being lazy. Will go on before my date at Sonoma on the 7th august.

Got some new rubber for putting down fast laps. Could not help myself as they were on special at Tire Rack and I have never driven on any real 200TW tires. Mounted to my 17x8 Koing Hypergrams. Next year I will get some Apex EC-7Rs for my main track tires and move my ACR-8's as my daily/lapping tire setup

Also getting a Dyno tune for my car with Zach @ CSG before Sonoma. Really want the car dialed in. Order a JDL overpipe to match my header to insure there is no restriction pre secondary cat.

New Slotted rotors from DBA T3 4000 series. Got a steal on these from Amazon. 129$ per rotor! I could not pass it up. I was seeing them for 175-185$ each online. Needed new rotors and this is close enough to Centric Premium blanks. For track I know slotted helps keep the rotors and brake pads happier so I figured I give them a shot.

In other news passed Smog! So I celebrated by putting my Header and Flex fuel back on :bonk: Screw CARB!

Here are a few shots from my first trip up to Sonoma raceway plus my best lap. Gotta say 200TW tires are fantastic :)

Really fun track and I know there is a sub 2 in this car on that track. For next time :)

very nice build and good find on those rotors! Waiting for my blanks on back order until Sep 22

the car looks like alot of fun to drive!

jflogerzi 10-18-2021 10:54 PM

Did a thing. Trying to make the bottom as flat as possible. Finally got the Verus Under panels installed along with the non aggressive defuser. This kit blends well with the OEM Japan under body panels
