Scion FR-S / Toyota FT-86 / Subaru with Aggressive Body & High Wing! + VIDEO!
25 Attachment(s)
Here are some fresh photos from the Nurburgring where the Scion FR-S / Toyota FT-86 production prototype is being tested. But this particular test mule loses some camouflage and bares some aggressive bodywork - the front lower bumper, sideskirts, and rear valence. There's also a high wing spoiler attached, which we had not seen on the previous spied test prototype.
I thought the high wing spoiler might indicate that this is the Subaru 216a (Subaru's version of the FR-S / FT-86), but the FT-86 nameplate logo still appears on the front quarter panel of the car (cropped zoom on this is below). So the high wing could simply hark back to the days of the Toyota Supra. Despite that, this could possibly still end up being the Subaru version we're looking at. UPDATED WITH VIDEO!! (Be sure to watch in 1080p hi-res) [u2b]hQmUKqD5Bp8[/u2b] Attachment 1825 Attachment 1826 Attachment 1827 Attachment 1828 Attachment 1829 Attachment 1830 Attachment 1831 Attachment 1832 Attachment 1808 Attachment 1809 Attachment 1810 Attachment 1811 Attachment 1812 Attachment 1813 Attachment 1814 Attachment 1815 Attachment 1816 Attachment 1817 Attachment 1818 Attachment 1819 Attachment 1820 Attachment 1821 Attachment 1822 Attachment 1823 Attachment 1824 http://media2.worldcarfans.com/2010/...1116347276.jpg For comparison - photos of the Toyota FT-86 II Concept, the closest FR-S/FT-86 concept to this production test car http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...3&d=1298969682 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...4&d=1298969682 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...6&d=1298969682 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...5&d=1298964947 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...6&d=1298964947 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...9&d=1299082886 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...2&d=1299082917 |
Im pretty sure thats SUBARU's version. The Wing.. the REAR tail lights... and especially THE WHEELS remind me of SUBARU!
|
Maybe the Subie, for that wing.. yes.
But it look also like a mini-supra :p |
i can definitely dig that. whichever one is making this one, sign me up NOW! though may need to swap the wing for more of a parkbench look.
Also, the underside of the wing, i'm thinking they got a little lazy with the camo there... |
That is most likely subaru the wing is very similar to other STi wings. The side view does look like a supra though so who knows maybe it is toyota.
Ben |
I dont think it is subarus version unless the first lot of spy photos are a subie, as hachi points out it still has the 86 Horizontal opposed piston logo on the side, and is what we saw before simply with a wing and body kit. I'm Digging the body kit but not so much the wing, I much prefer a neat little one like the Mk2 has.
|
I take that back, it doesn't just look like the STi wing, it IS the STi wing. Identical.
Ben |
Trd spoiler! ThisIs what I'm getting!
|
I'm still waiting for spy pics of the frs, that's the one I'm truly interested in. The toyota seems bland compared, and no confirmed subie pics so I'm meh on that one too.
|
Shit yeah, good to see that the production version isn't going to be too nerfed from the concepts. Interesting to note the suspension travel; look like it's about 50mm judging by the tyre/guard clearance changes between hard corner (the opposite tyres are nearly off the ground!) and no corner.

now now, lets not jump to conlusions... http://reviews.carreview.com/files/2...TI-600x400.jpg ...well then, that is pretty damn close. only difference is a curve on the bottom, and who says that wont translate into the next wrx as well... :iono: EDIT after new pics: The driver is clearly asian, i'm calling it now! TOYOTA! :bonk: |

Front shot, I think of 370z.

I'm guessing those are the aero kit pieces.... and there's no way in hell I'll be adding that spoiler.
|
Is it me or they wanted to make it pass by as a BMW? The camo looks like the one used by BWM and those tail lights have some of the old Z4 in them.http://image.motortrend.com/f/2008_b...tail_light.jpg

Very cool, the wing is a bit big/high IMO but still cool
|
Sorry, can't stop thinking about that wing... I sincerely hope it's optional, and really hope that part never makes it into production. Yeah, I know, the Supra had it.. but this ain't the Supra. Not enough beef under the hood unless they want to unleash the STi motor, and I'd still not want it. Just my 2 cents.
Edit: Thanks for the email notifications btw - always nice to see new pics. Keep em coming! |
don't like this kit
for me, a real beautiful car don't need anything to be beautiful (especially a huge ugly wing) |

Its the Toyota, not Subaru according to Toyota UK!
|
Woah, that rear wing is out of control looking!
The fact that they're trying aero bits in the real world means they're either verifying this accessory body kit, or they're starting to struggle with the cars' aero balance at higher speeds. TRDliquidsilver did mention they're having trouble with the car snap oversteering when driven "incorrectly". Perhaps they're testing the aero bits to see if it's a useful improvement. It appears they've abandon the use of a functional rear diffuser. You can see in the rear shots there is no underbody pan and the little add-on pieces are only creating turbulence if there is laminar flow behind the rear axle. Oh FWIW to the OP; it's customary and courteous to blur out the vehicle occupants identities. |
The back brake light inside of the car (first pic) indicates that this is not a hatch/liftback. No hatchback has this kind of a rear brake light. It's either on top of the window or outside, because the middle shelf in the hatchbacks can be removed - therefore you also remove the brake light.

Looks like a Toyobaru to me :)
|
Like the ground effects, keep the wing. Not that radical a departure form the other version though. One thing it does point out, is that they really took out the "hockey stick" (as described by C & D) line on the lower part of the body... #epicfacepalm at the designers. ***sigh***

Yup, I am thinking this is the Subaru, not only does it have the new STI's wing on it, but I believe both the first pictures and these the car has the SPEC C wheels, someone correct me if I am wrong.
Also, how do we know the 86 symbol, either isn't, or wasn't given to, if it was Toyota's, Subaru's? I'm just throwing out possibilities. EDIT: And as I go back and read the first spy photo posts see the wheels have already been addressed :P. |
IMO this is a trd styling kit option being tested on the toyota version.

From what I can make out of the bodywork under the swirls, it looks pretty good. And I actually like the wing.
|
the wing looks good but maybe a bit too big... the power to size ratio makes the wing look like a prop only to attract attention. In my opinion useless and unappealing
|
once again THANK YOU HACHI!

IMO Toyota tested the car with a big wing, to see how the car perform in track with more down force... then might test the car with different sizes of wings!! we never know!! :iono:
maybe later they will decide which wing is the best for the car!! the rear tail lights look scary!! i hope Toyota use some LED!! |
I like the wing, make it an accessory.

I'm really hoping the fog light/turn signal in the fascia is an option... would rather have functional vents I think.
