Hot dang, I'm gonna get me two of those, one for each bank of cylinders.
Hell, with an a-dapter kit and some piping from Home Depot, I can have me a twin turbo-ed FR-S for less that $400. -:happyanim: humfrz |

So for real, what is the deal? If you look up on Amazon the have turbo kits for $200-300 all day long. What are they made of wood or something?

That seems like it would be sort of easy to cobble together and fix. As far as bad casting, would it just rip apart? I really just can't see how it goes from $150 to $4000. |

You couldn't pay me $4k to put this on my poor little car. I think we can all imagine the inevitable end result of this.... |
I'm going to put one on my riding mower.

To give him a boost, I ask Bubba to put together a prototype. It has the basics, it jest needs a bit of refinement. What about it Ultramaroon - humfrz |
Walmart is trying very hard to adopt Amazon's ecommerce model. These products are sold by 3rd party vendors through Walmart's portal

It looks the part of a real turbo but that is where it ends. It took the name brand expert engineers a couple of years to develop a proper turbo for these cars do you really think that you can just grab an off the shelf "universal" one and have it work properly? Have all the reputable vendors been ripping everybody off all this time? |

Did you get home OK? humfrz |
This is a typical ebay turbo special from DNA motoring: http://dnamotoring.com/web/
This type of $100-$600 turbo specials you find on amazon, eBay, or now walmart are super well known for having sketchy wastegates that don't let you control boost properly. Seen plenty of these at my friends shop that require quite a LOT of modification and work just to get them to work right, and after that they last maybe a 12-18 months in racing scenarios before something blows or gets stuck blowing the motor as well. |

If people want to be able to say "hey look at my turbo" or "I bought a kit but just haven't put it in yet" this is a great buy but if you want any sort of actual performance and reliability skip it and buy the real thing from a reputable vendor. |

Yep, that's exactly what he runs into. I feel bad for him because then his shop gets bad reviews down the line and they blame him for it. They are incredibly hard to tune, because as soon as you ask the owner to put money into at least a proper waste-gate setup for them they usually complain because that costs more anyway :iono: People are sad some times. Also as for the custom work, it's really about the same as one would get into for a tuner kit from say garret or honeywell, definitely a custom welded manifold and such |

Y I remember back in the 50s, I got one of those fan whirly things and mounted it between the carburetor and intake manifold. It broke up the gasoline particles and mixed them with the air better so that the engine consumed less gasoline and increased HP. I didn't have a dyno but it increased my top speed up to 87 MPH and reduced my 1/4 mile time down to 26 seconds. So there! humfrz |

Devil's in the details. |
Item listed on Ebay is kinda misrepresented.
A short block has things in it other than air. Item shown is a BARE block. |
Quote:
The item is listed at an "Engine Motor Short Block Assembly". Is it an engine or motor, short block? Does a motor have a "block"? Are all the holes included? Or just the ones shown? :iono: humfrz |

I had a whistle when I was a kid that had a spinner in it like that.

"The real difference, is the fact that "motors" run on electricity, while "engines" run on combustion. ... On the rare occasions we encounter one, we refer to a steam locomotive as an engine, the same word that we give to the motive power of an aircraft. But all electrical devices are driven by motors." Now, lemmie be - :D humfrz |

Buy enough of them to reduce your landed cost and selling it for 100% margins isn't really that hard. Plus, Walmart is really trying to capture that 3rd party seller/marketplace like Amazon, it's high margins for them. -alex |

Motorcycle Motorway Motor lodge Simple. An engine can be a motor but a motor in not always an engine. The word has nothing to do with fuel source but just the function it completes. |
