Dark Gray or World Rally Blue?
Found two used models in my area. Mileage and price are within ball park of each other, pretty much comes down to color.
Dark gray advantages-- 1. More of a sleeper look 2. Blue advantages 1. I don't like the sparkliness of the dark gray 2. Traditional Subie color. If I could have it any way, I'd have chosen a gloss, non-pearl white. The dark blue oceanic looks nice but overall prefer the Subaru design. So, does anyone have one of these two colors? Happy with your choice? |

Blue blue blue blue blue.

I've bought and sold many cars in my time. Here's the best advice I can give you is to go see both cars in person. Some times seeing them in person will cast them in a light than photos couldn't. You may also find the paint on one is in better shape than the other.
Beyond that, I've find having a neutral paint color is more useful when choosing wheel colors. It allows for a greater number of colors and styles to match without clashing. |
I have the dark grey, i love it but damn can you how dirty the car is.
one down side i found is body kits if you're thinking of doing body kits WRB i think would be easier to match with black or CF or paint match, im running a fiberglass with gloss black and you cant tell its black till you're up close. but at the end of the day im happy with it all just be sure its something YOU'RE happy with |
I had a dark gray BRZ before I traded it in for a blue BRZ tS. You can't go wrong with either color.
|
Well dark grey is a traditional Subie color too.

WRB or CWP. Basic colors (non-pearl) are for fleet vehicles.

I have grey, its pretty cool when its clean, I wish i got the blue the i was convinced by others that i would get bored of it. so i got grey and kind of regret now.
But now my overall theme is to add black out everything, so it looks pretty cool |
WRB all the way & I got gold Enkei RPF1's to go with it but was told it was rice.... I can't
help but look back once I park & I'm an old man! |

Wait for a pearl white one to come up for sale

I have grey, but I think the traditional Subie combo of WRB with gold wheels looks great. Both colours look great, but WRB stands out more and is a real pretty colour. Grey is more subtle and 'mature' maybe. Depends on your personality.

WRB with gold rims would go great with a pack of 555 smokes.

WRB
subie product needs subie color. I think it looks off in the other colors.....I think its cuz I look at the subie face and see Subaru and I would want it to be in WRB. |
I love my WRB. It was my first choice, with the CWP being my second; I had an Evo IX MR in their Wicked White and loved the color. But once I saw the WRB in person at the Pittsburgh car show that sealed the deal.
Such a great color, and I get compliments on it all the time. Just a couple of days ago I was going through the drive-thru and the lady waiting on me kept telling me how much she loved the color. Not the car, mind you, just the color! ;) |
WRB is the second best Subie color, so go for that. And then you can throw on some gold wheels for that classic look!
On the other hand, you could just wait around for a CWP. |
I'll check out the WRB in person. I've already seen the gray. Prefer it over black (looks great when clean but it's a lifestyle choice more than anything), silver (too normal, but easy to live with), red.
Not a big fan of the white. Looks too much like **** juice under certain lighting. |
Go for whatever speaks to you in person.
Closely examine the paint work to see how it's been cared for. Have rock chips been properly looked after? regular washes? Wax/Sealant? Swirls/scuffs? Money can fix all of those things, but it will give you a indication of how the owner treats their car. Check service records if available. I Tend to favor blue paintwork. If the new neptune blue color on 19 86's was offered earlier I would have searched out that color. I ended up with a asphalt/grey 86. |
WRB is the only subaru color....

Find a few hot girls you're friends with and send them pics of each color, then be like "which one?". That's how you'll know. |
Don't do the WRB, everyone has it and you are grouped in with the WRX/VAPE crew. Dark Gray with some subtle mods is so much better looking.
|
WRB!

Thank you. I thought I was the only one that read that and thought it was idiotic. Pick the color YOU like best. If you can't decide flip a coin. If the coin toss disappoints you, go against it. |
I love the dark grey and how the metallic flake sparkles in the sun. WRB is very nice as well in my opinion. WRB wasn't available at the time I bought, but I was already pretty set on the look of the grey anyways.
The biggest disadvantage to any dark paint is that scratches, swirls, and dust/dirt are more obvious and it looks dirty much more quickly after washing. Luckily I find washing my car regularly quite therapeutic and is a great way for me to relax. Detailing has become a hobby (yet another expensive one..) so I don't mind the extra work required for my dark paint. Metallic paint is also harder to touch up as inconsistent flakes tend to stand out. As always, looks are entirely subjective and you can choose whatever you like best. |

I have had my WRB for just over 4.5years and not seen another WRB in that time. Must get out more!! Always had positive comments regards the colour.. slight drop in height and pushed out wheels help set the scene. |
He asked which color to pick...I was simply giving my opinion. My car is as cliche as it gets! A red FRS with big black wheels and tint. Maybe other parts of the country have a million red ones? But I will be darned if I let a kid drive by in a WRB anything and give me a thumbs up and not give him a thumbs down.

It is a small low profile car that can be hard to see at the best of times. Colour preference is the most subjective thing in the world but I want as much chance of being spotted as possible. The fact that the Toyota name for the dark grey is "Asphalt" does not bode well in the highway visibility department..
|
But grey is so...
grey. |
