Unmasking the FR-S / BRZ / FT-86 Mule

Had to use Painter and PS to get this done,

I raised the exposure level of the original photo to see the contours and retraced them to see the form. Then filled in the blanks and added lighting.

Here is what the FT86 production mule looks like for the global market.

Ill come up with the rear view later today.

Nice job  WingsofWar! Although that nose needs to be angled, everything else looks very nicely interpreted.

tranzformer 05-16-2011 04:24 PM

Thanks WoW. Great job. Here is a beer from me for a job well done. :happy0180:

NikostC 05-16-2011 04:25 PM

nice. Although I think that hood looks a little weird.

RRnold 05-16-2011 04:36 PM

Nice job WW!

Ugggh, hopefully that squared-off hood won't make it into final production.

This is looking more Scion... :sigh:

Cogito8888 05-16-2011 04:36 PM

awesome job, offsping of the mk I and mk II, with a lot from the mk II. looking forward to shots of the rear

4agze 05-16-2011 04:59 PM

its hardly an interpretation, the nose is really like that. The only thing i did was remove the camo texture. Which is why the edit is gray rather than another color.

Random_Art 05-16-2011 05:08 PM

Nice work, This is what I was seeing as well

Kage 05-16-2011 05:12 PM

highly disappointed ...i hope production doesn't look like this. The squared off hood, the turning signals above the fogs, the new much bigger side mirrors that look like the tiburon's. I mean I knew shit was gonna change but if it really goes in this direction I'm going to start loosing interest...fast.

Anyone know if it is legal to have turn signals that low in a production car (right above fogs)?

The only issue is visibility in respect to location.

V C Section 24952 Visibility Requirements of Signals

Visibility Requirements of Signals

24952. A lamp-type turn signal shall be plainly visible and understandable in normal sunlight and at nighttime from a distance of at least 300 feet to the front and rear of the vehicle, except that turn signal lamps on vehicles of a size required to be equipped with clearance lamps shall be visible from a distance of 500 feet during such times.

These are also American laws. The regulations for these things are probably a bit different in Europe

Agreed. I never realized how much hood lines affect

WOW! And its just a mule w/o finalized sheetmetal!

Now onto the important stuff...mainly weight....actually, just weight.

If weight is within reason (AT MOST 2750), its sold in my book.

Matador 05-16-2011 07:13 PM

Just for the record, it's now a prototype, no longer a mule.

ftw-86 05-16-2011 07:22 PM

I like what they're trying to do but I can't get over the fact that this "Prototype" resembles the Tc. I was hoping for more the of sleek look of the FRS. We will see in due time.

**thought** are we sure this is not a subaru mule?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. But the speculation is based off the license plate and styling cues not really being Subaru inspired and feel more Toyota inspired.

If Toyota would clean up the back it wouldn't look too bad. Get rid of spoiler (something more simple would be ok), change rear taillights (looks too unfinished and I don't like the round part), get rid of that 3rd brake light thingy I think it could look pretty good. I like the round exhaust and the minimal diffuser kit.

xantonin 05-16-2011 08:05 PM

And I thought the FR-S rear was bad LOL!

I don't understand. That is an extremely simple basic spoiler. It's hardly even a spoiler. Do you have an example of anything more simple?

Something more like this maybe?

Kage 05-16-2011 08:12 PM

hey can someone do a chop without the spoiler? Not a new spoiler just a delete from that pic.

I've always heard them called ducktail spoilers

The prototype above, while not a duck tail spoiler, is not raised either.

ftw-86 05-16-2011 08:19 PM

With the camo off, it doesn't look to bad. Still doesn't sell it for me.
Maybe the specs will.

ichitaka05 05-16-2011 08:20 PM

@WoW, seriously... You're awesome photochopper!

I wasn't a fan of the Mk2 spoiler and don't care for this one either. Would rather see it without a spoiler tbh.

RRnold 05-16-2011 09:09 PM

Nice job Wings!

Damn, I'm not feeling that rear at all and the front fender being wider than the rear. I'm not giving up yet until it hits the showroom floor though.

Dark 05-16-2011 09:30 PM

I hope the production will have more aggressive light than this prototype. I'm effing sick of that front and rear light.

Very skilled photoshopper with us here on the boards that we are lucky to have..

I don't dig the taillights at all...they're hideous IMO.

Dimman 05-16-2011 10:47 PM

Awesome job!

Anyone else feel that the tail lights are a cross between a BMW Z4 and an S2000?

(Not feeling the fog light/signals...)

WingsofWar 05-16-2011 10:51 PM

thnx hachi for fixing my initial post

Yikes. Now it's safe to say it looks terrible :respekt:.

The back end looks really nice with that flat black/grey. That's a different place to put the third tail. And is that a set of backup lights too?

A spoiler of some sort is very likely unless/maybe they don't use a diffuser. That rear quarter is going to have quite a bit of lift to counter. I suspect :iono:, not a guarantee. For example look at the current Nissan Fairlady Z, does it always have a spoiler?

Dimman 05-17-2011 12:05 AM

That low red light is a Euro safety thing for fog/rain.

Thanks Dimman, I don't see "Euro" cars very often :D.
