How long do you plan to keep your FRS/86/BRZ

Hello guys!

Just wondering how long you all plan to keep your FRS/BRZ/86. Has anyone ever gotten bored of this car?

My FRS has been such a joy (sometimes a pain) for these last 3 years and 65k miles. I don't see myself ever selling it. After all that, the driving experience still puts a smile on my face every day! :happyanim::happyanim::happyanim:

What about everyone else?

Leonardo 07-12-2018 01:20 PM

When I bought mine 6 years ago, I planned on keeping it at least 100,000 miles. I am at 74,700 now.

I see. How do you feel now? Keeping it still?

This is my first new car.

NARFALICIOUS 07-12-2018 01:29 PM

Should be a survey.

Me, Forever!!

humfrz 07-12-2018 01:33 PM

I'll keep mine as long as I can still get in and out of it …. or it spins a bearing … whichever occurs first.

:D

I love my car. I plan on keeping it at least till 100K. I also bought my truck new in 2005, and it has 197,000 now.

Overdrive 07-12-2018 01:45 PM

No plans to ever sell it. I enjoy it way too much, and there isn't likely to ever be a car like it made again that can replace it for me.

ermax 07-12-2018 01:49 PM

I typically keep cars for 250k miles. I would keep my FRS that long if it wasn't for the fact that it spun a bearing. I'm not sure if I want to keep it for a long time now or just keep it for a few years and then dump it.

Or maybe do a K swap and keep it forever.

KDad2 07-12-2018 01:56 PM

Do not plan on getting rid of the car... ever. But, I've said that before about things.

+1 hahaha same! Even when it's decade's old I plan to drive it occasionally :party0030:

extrashaky 07-12-2018 02:16 PM

I still have the last new car I bought on June 1, 2000. So 18 years is not out of the question. We'll just see how it goes.

mazeroni 07-12-2018 02:29 PM

I had planned to trade up to a 2017 this summer. But since I'm moving closer to work (from 40 minutes to 8), it doesn't make sense to make that switch right now.

Also, I don't necessarily want to take on another 66 month loan.

If I decide to do some mods (wheels, suspension, and a few appearance goodies) I'll probably end up keeping it until some catastrophic mechanical failure takes it from me.

lantsalot 07-12-2018 02:34 PM

I have had mine for almost 6 years and can't see myself getting rid of it, even when I pick up my next car. Plan to turn this into my first ever track car once I decide what my next daily is in a couple of years!

ToySub1946 07-12-2018 02:36 PM

2015 Ultramarine frs, also here. Bought new. Now 56,000 miles.

I plan to keep it till I die. I'm 71yo now. So that could be soon.

Might get pissed at it if/when the TOB goes out. So far though, zero problems with this car. Most reliable car I've ever owned and I've had lots of cars.

>>>>>Might trade it for a newer model, if they make one which has more than 5hp more than my engine.<<<<< Can you hear me now Mr. Akio Toyoda ?

Might trade it for a BRZ if they eventually make the color >cool grey khaki< for the USA market.

Kinda really like the 50th Anniversary Edition in >Heritage Blue Pearl< as well.

Gotta be realistically sensible though. To change cars just for a better color than mine would be a stupid, very expensive move.

nikitopo 07-12-2018 02:39 PM

30+ years. I have it already 4 years and made in total 5.5k miles.

You're good for another 20+ years, so … the TOB will not last that long … so, save up .. ;)

Reminds me of way back-in-the-day (HS/college years), when I had my old 1948 Chev. Since I painted cars for a part time income, whenever I got tired of the color of my car … I'd just repaint it …cheaper than trading cars...:)

Errr Forever,

To be honest I'm just too late to pull out. :scared0016:

I'm that dumb guy that spent too much getting STI mods while being not FI & without brembo..... (Ya I have every single item STI sells for the BRZ in Japan..... except brembo... >___> tS wannabe)

other then tS stuff....... exhaust parts along will push me over 4k... ............ :suicide:

Outdone you by 10x, I will see if i can push mine to million miles........XD j/k

RToyo86 07-12-2018 03:22 PM

I have the intention of driving the car into the ground. The reason I didn't hesitate on buying mine brand new was due to how reliable and simple the car is.

gravitylover 07-12-2018 05:22 PM

Since I owe more than the car is worth it would be kind of silly to get rid of it. As the mileage keeps piling up the value keeps dropping. As people keep doing dumb shit in parking lots and dinging it up the value keeps dropping. As people on the streets continue to park by braille and not seeing my car the value keeps dropping. This all makes it hard for me to convince myself to spend $$ on maintenance but I know I have to. It needs new shoes (summer and winter), new front brakes and probably the clutch kit soon too as well as another complete fluid change and I should probably put some new spark plugs in too. It's made it to 102k on the original front pads and rotors, original plugs and as long as it's warm out the TOB is fine but I know that when it cools off it's going to start screaming at me again.

All that said I still enjoy driving the shit out of it and will keep it for a long time.

Flint8821 07-12-2018 05:28 PM

I bought my first car used and kept it for 18.5 years. Then I bought my FRS used as well, so its only my second car. I'll keep driving and fixing it until it falls apart.

BFIFE22 07-12-2018 05:45 PM

Depending on how the new Supra turns out (basically whether they end up offering it with a manual, I could maybe settle for a DCT), once those reach a price I can afford I will consider trading

xenarc 07-12-2018 07:36 PM

Part of me hopes this car gets discontinued so it can become a rare gem in the upcoming years but then again I would like to see it it evolve into a new generation. This car is just so fun to drive. I cannot let go...

wbradley 07-12-2018 07:59 PM

The longest I have ever kept a car previously was maybe 4 years. This one is 6+ so far.

I knew when I started modding that I'd never get back any of my costs on resale but did it anyway. Sometimes I regret it financially but I do love the car so it's all good.

It will go when something forces it to. For example when my almost 11 yr old eventually needs space for his car. Could be quite a few more years.

On the other hand I recently quit my job of 17+ years due to games and dissatisfaction with my employer (should have grown balls and did it 6 years earlier) and a connection wants me to go see a guy I kinda know that has a pre-owned prestige car dealership very close to where I live. Apparently his right hand man is retiring soon. I am aprehensive to sell cars as it was a tough grind when I bounced around doing it in my early to mid 20's.

However, as a lifelong salesman I gotta do something that can meet my financial needs and of course with pre-owned Porsches and stuff it might be tempting for me to try one for a bit.

In summary, it would have to be something very satisfying to drive for me to consider changing.

Spuds 07-12-2018 08:35 PM

Currently evaluating that one. Possibly until next year, possibly never. My fiance likes convertibles, so might change my toy to a Miata or something. Maybe this becomes my actual DD. Maybe the engine goes in a few months and becomes a swap candidate.

Originally was thinking of keeping it forever, but having a house/garage, second car, getting married, being wiser, and evolution of technology means priorities change.

Nah, if I'm ok with DCT, I would rather wait a few years and get a Alfa Qulia Quadrofolio on steep dealer discount......... those are gonna worth way more in the future, it's not like we gonna daily either of those car.

My 11 and 12 year old sons talk about my FRS all the time. Kids love the car because there is some YouTube kid named Tanner Fox or something like that who has one. I get “hey cool car” from kinds more than anything else. Hahaha

My original plan was to hold onto this car for a while and then get a 2017 and then hand the 2013 down to one of my sons.

DarkPira7e 07-12-2018 11:51 PM

Until it rusts out or gets totalled! I've been jumping between cars since I bought my first one, I think this car is everything I need in a vehicle

JimmyMac 07-13-2018 12:52 AM

The longest I've held onto a car was either this one or my 93 Miata at 6 years. My plan with this car is to keep it indefinitely. Seeing as how I also have a truck, my FRS will not necessarily be a daily driver. More of a weekend and road trip car. Well, the truck is the go to work car. The FRS will be everything else. The only thing tempting me away from this car is a new 2019 Miata. But I like not having a car payment. hehe Who knows, maybe I'll buy another Miata and keep this car. Either way, I'll always have a sports car and a truck of sorts.

Dang hahahaha I hope that your car neither rusts nor gets totalled. I want to be able to pull mine out of the garage 2 decades from now and have the oem paint nice and shiny and the car in good shape.
