Chosing a color will make me crazy
Alright, hi guys, I'm new here. I live in Canada, Québec. (Yeah main language here is french, so I might sound a little weird with my second language).
So here's the deal, Ive been looking at FR-S pictures and videos for over 2-3 weeks now. I still can't decide what color to take. A few day ago, I ended up my choice on the firestorm, but then.. they called me saying "they have no red fr-s". If I want a red FR-S, I'll have to wait months. If I take a black one, I could have it in the next few days. Black is nice, but I don't want to wash it every 2 days, I'd hate that. White is kinda the same, it looks dirty after 2 days. Blue is too dark, lava is nice, but I fear I might get bored of it. So this leave red right? But then.. I never saw it in real life. I only saw the black and blue one (which both looked awesome of course, but they were both clean). What to do! I know you can't really help me out on this, but I guess I'm just going crazy lol. I don't want to wait 3 months, but then, I don't want to spend 30 000$ on a color I might regret taking. What would you do? |
go check out my thread -frs color great- im pretty sure it will help you

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ighlight=color To OP: If you like red, I recommend wait for red. You might need to wait for months, but you get to enjoy it for years. |
Red means you're going to attract everybody from supped up civics to 370z's trying to race you and even cops.
I think the best advice is don't decide on a color or rule out others until you've seen it in person. I never thought about black but then seeing it in person was a whole different story. You might not like the red - it's not 100% accurate what you see in pics and vids. |

What I did is try to use objective reasons rather than leave it to the subjective. Silver just made objective sense:
--it's almost as reflective as white (from a heat retention perspective) --consensus opinion is that silver requires the least amount of work to keep it looking objectively "clean" -- I've had black twice and will not own it again --consensus opinion is that silver is kind of boring, doesn't attract racer or LEO attention, or dazzle onlookers, which at my age is JUST FINE --I've had an RX-7 and a Stealth R/T TT and plan to own a Porsche or two in the future and for those I can go with my gut a little more as far as color, but the FR-S is kind of a stopgap "practical" or "economy" car for me My reasons might be different from yours and you might come to a different conclusion if you try to go objective. I'm just saying it's a way to go if you can't decide (and given the maelstrom of chemicals, life cycle cells, and electrical impulses that is the human mind, subjective truth is an elusive and frustrating concept even within one's own self). |

For me, when I was deciding on the color of the car I wanted, I had to see them all in person first. I was torn between whiteout and ultramarine. Seeing them in person compared to pictures I felt was almost as different as night and day. Very few pictures do the car justice in my opinion and seeing it in person is a must. This was very apparent to me when I saw the hot lava in person. Looks much better than it does in the pictures. Looked so good that I am now a happy owner a hot lava FRS! In the end though, which ever one you do pick, you'll end up with a great car
|
I understand I'll seem biased in my opinion stated... But I also drove myself crazy as I was having last minute thoughts on the color after my heart was already set on Firestorm from the very beginning.
And now that I have my color of choice... I can say that I would've sincerely regretted choosing anything over Firestorm. It's just that my personality and mind go with Firestorm... Although all color choices are superb in their very own way. I would wait it out if your heart's set on Firestorm... Or search other dealers in your area to see if they can do any better on getting in that colored FR-S quicker for you. All the best. |
all the colors are awesome....except argento/silver...except on a BRZ. i test drove a Silver FRS and almost went home with it....till I saw a white out..good god that was beautiful, firestorm too!
|
I concur with seeing them in person first. As mentioned, the Hot Lava looks amazing in person.
I initially had my heart set on Firestorm, but when I saw it in person I wasn't as impressed. I was really hoping for a metallic red like the concept. Ended up with the Ultramarine and couldn't be happier. |
Silver and white actually do pretty well with dirt if your worried about the darker colors being too much work. I think Red and Orange are two colors you need to love to be happy with. The best advice is to go see them in person.

An argento FR-S looks good on the dealership lot. I saw the first FR-S on the road a few weeks ago.
I just happened to notice it. It blended in with all the other cars in traffic. That can be good for some people but if you want to get noticed hold off on the color you want. |
having the same trouble, theres not that ONE color that this car is associated with or just seems right for the car.
personaly i'm deciding between whiteout, asphalt, and argento. only have seen whiteout in person |
Whiteout is the best color on the FR-S......then Asphalt....then raven......
If you want to be adventurous then go with the firestorm or hot lava... The argento and that blue color are weak.... The silver is a flat silver, or is it metallic silver? |

Depending on where you live, I bought my hot lava from Guillaume at Park Avenue Toyota in Brossard. They have a red one right now, been sitting in the lot for a week so I guess it's unsold as of now. I saw it when I went to pick my hot lava (wich you need to see in full sunlight in order for it to share the full glory of the sun, it's magestic looking) Try giving the Brossard dealership a call, and I do recommend Guillaume, he managed to fing a hot lava for me even though all manual hot lavas in Canada were already sold. Tell him Philippe sent you :D |
I was on the same boat as you, but I only need to decide on red or white, I end up with white and damn is it a beauty. As for dirty, I had it opticoat and I clean it once a week, during the weekday, unless it rains looks very good imho.

The thing is, I want an AT, not manual. Somehow, I felt in love with the manual mode on the AT. And it looks like theres none AT around.. (red) |
I feel your pain, o' brother to the north. I am going in to place a deposit on an FR-S tomorrow. I have seen all the colors in person except black, which I don't want anyway. Ultramarine is stunning! I am hesitant to pull the trigger on Ultramarine because (a) it will be difficult to keep clean, and (b) if the paint is as soft as it sounds (like my old 2.5 RS Subie), the nose will be quickly festooned with rock chips with light colored primer visible (I live in metro Atlanta). Asphalt too is gorgeous, but will probably not get the nod for the same reasons as Ultramarine. My two remaining choices are Argento and Whiteout. I owned a silver Miata and a silver S-2000, and have fond memories of how easy it was to keep both looking clean. The white 85' MR-2 was just as easy.
Now to decide? |
If you really want a specific color, you should wait for one. I wanted white, and like you've experienced, dealerships told me I'd have to pre-order and wait for them to get me one (via inter-dealership trading).
I placed a deposit and they told me to wait 2-3 months. But I did my own hunting (at all local dealerships) and eventually found a white car (within a month). If you're going to dump 25k+ of your hard earned money into something, might as well make sure it's the right color you want. |
Go w Firestorm. Raven is great, but if you gonna spent $30k mind as well spent on car color that you like. Few month waiting isn't that bad.

I have the Raven and i love it. The nicest color IMO. My second choice was asphalt. If you really want the firestorm though wait for it or you'll probably end up regretting it when you see one on the road

You're not even part of Canada...

@Dadhawk: Yeah it looks great. I just gotta at least see it in person. Pictures and videos can be misleading sometime. I never had a red car, but I guess this one would look awesome red.
Black is nice.. if only it could stay clean without having to wash it every weekend. Sigh.. oh well I guess I will have to wait a couple months :( |
raven looks so good with five axis kit
|
any pics of frs blue? how it compares with BRZ blue?
|
My friend has the BRZ in blue and it looks pretty much identical to the FRS. Unless you get the light blue. : )

It's also about the same color as Momhawk's '05 Mustang convertible if that helps. (Torch Red, not the Redfire which is darker) |
I just went with red. It work with the red stitching all in the car.

Firestorm was definitely a deeper, richer color than what I was seeing in the pictures. The Firestorm really suits the FR-S in its character and personality. Of course, I'm biased. |

I ordered a Firestorm, and it's been two months for me and mine is finally coming in a week!! It will definitely be worth the wait

Hot Lava is the right color. I've owned red, black and silver cars and nobody has ever complimented any of my cars on their color. However, every single person I've showed my new car to (Hot Lava) has gone on and on about how great the color is.
|
Of the colors i've seen in person its Red > Black > White in the FRS.
The BRZ looks better in white, but i'm rolling with gray... Blue was taking the lead until I remembered how well my Diamond Graphite color aged after 9 years.. |

Personally I love all the colors the car comes in :) |
If you really like red, then I would rather wait a few more months for it and not have any regrets afterwards.
