WHAT'S GOING ON:

High Level Management from both TMS (Toyota Motor Sales) and Subaru are visiting our dealer for feedback in August (undisclosed date for obvious reasons). They want feedback on the FR-S. I'm sure they will also be visiting a few other dealers and a few Subbie dealers as well- but I always get feedback online before having these meetings.

Their 24 areas of interest include:

-Engine Performance (Feel, noises, etc)

-Exhaust Sound Performance (Sound Quality)

-Transmission (Performance, Quality)

-Suspension (Feel, noise)

-Wind Noise (Areas you hear it, which speed you're at when hearing it)

-Brakes (Noise, Performance, Pedal Feel)

-Steering (Feel, Aligned properly, car exhibit pulling left/right?)

-Highway Performance (Stability, Acceleration, Noise)

-Tire Performance (Wear, Noise, Handling)

-Vehicle Handling (Alignment, Road-Handling, Stability)

-Vibration (Steering Wheel, Pedals, Floor, Seat, etc)

-Interior Parts/Panels (Fitment, gap, deformation, etc)

-Unusual Interior Noise (Squeaking, rattling, etc and location)

-Front Seat Functionality

-Rear Seat Function (... troll question? haha)

-Exterior Parts/Panels (Fitment, Gap, Wheel/Tire Size, Design of Wheels, etc)

-Back Door (Trunk) Function

-Interior Function (Visor, Mirrors, etc)

-HVAC (A/C/Heating System) Performance

-Audio Equipment Performance

-Bluetooth Performance

-Center Cluster Switch usability

-Other Electronic Switch function/usability

-Other Noise/Vibration

-------------------------------------------------------

Again: Please keep your reply to 1 posting per concern. If you see the concern already listed, please "Thank" that person's posting so we can see how rampant that concern may be. Please keep any discussion on this thread here: www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=339960

Oops-- can a mod change the title to "Feedback to TMS/SOA Management" ? Thanks!!

Thanks for taking care of it so quickly :D

I'm shocked that there are no replies after almost 24 hours...

Tires are entirely ill suited to the car. It's a sports car .. don't put optional Prius tires on a car just to fool us about mileage and economy. This car competes with cars equipped with much better rubber from the factory. Give us the same.

Raven86 07-27-2012 12:10 PM

I have a rattle that sounds like its coming from behind the driver side door speaker. I only hear it occasionally though.

VZ86 07-27-2012 07:13 PM

FR-S driver here. As per rules in OP, will do one post per concern.

1.) Wish there was tilt/slide memory on the front passenger seat. On the several (though not regular) occasions I've had two others in my car, I've had to pause to lean over and readjust the seat after dropping them off or getting back in the car to go home. Otherwise my peripheral vision is distracted or outright obscured by the seat/headrest.

VZ86 07-27-2012 07:19 PM

2.) I drive an AT, and I think it'd be nice to see what gear the car's in w/o having to switch from full-auto to manual mode.

VZ86 07-27-2012 07:19 PM

3.) Adjustable height seatbelts would be nice, but the button-strap works well enough.

VZ86 07-27-2012 07:19 PM

4.) Very pleased w/ rear-view mirror visibility of rear windshield. Please don't make that window any smaller. The space between the "stilts" holding up the third brake light is actually a nice touch to minimize obscured viewing area.

VZ86 07-27-2012 07:20 PM

5.) Like that interior trunk light was standard equipment.

dem00n 07-27-2012 07:23 PM

Holder for sunglasses on the roof near the light.

empower-auto 07-27-2012 07:23 PM

2. The paint quality is unacceptable for any modern car. It's applied much too thin.

zoomzoomers 07-27-2012 07:28 PM

BRZ driver here.

Arm rest is required on this car. At least offer it as an option.

Sigh-on-Rice 07-27-2012 07:42 PM

- Transmission (Performance, Quality)

Manual transsmision.

Clutch makes a "jar of marbles" noise during deceleration (engine braking) at low RPM in 1st to 3rd gears. Starts at around 2200 RPM and ends at around 1200 RPM.

Sigh-on-Rice 07-27-2012 07:43 PM

- Unusual Interior Noise (Squeaking, rattling, etc and location)

Somewhere in the trunk area, it makes ticking/tapping/popping noise. It gets louder with the rear seats down. It sounds like making a hole on a clear plastic take out food container with a needle. It happens at any speed from 5 mph in the parking lot to 60 mph on the highway. Happens once every few seconds when it's bad and sometimes no noise for 5 minutes when it's good.

***** EDIT *****
I made a thread for this issue ---> HERE

jma 07-27-2012 10:26 PM

The tires suck.

Lonewolf 07-27-2012 10:38 PM

The stock taillights have tacky chrome bezels and trim. Give us some options here please!

Nepenthe 07-27-2012 10:43 PM

Own an AT FR-S.

-Unusual Interior Noise (Squeaking, rattling, etc and location)

1. Intermittent tapping / rattling coming from each door (usually passenger side door) most likely rooted in loose wiring / harnessing inside each door.

Nepenthe 07-27-2012 10:44 PM

Own an AT FR-S.

-Unusual Interior Noise (Squeaking, rattling, etc and location)

2. Rattling from passenger side door speaker even with only mild bass boost, moderate volume, and moderately bassy music.

Nepenthe 07-27-2012 10:46 PM

Own an AT FR-S.

-Unusual Interior Noise (Squeaking, rattling, etc and location)

3. Tapping from the front console area -- audio interface to upper center vents -- usually appears in the latter half of the drive home, possibly due to the sun having time to warm it up (I park in a covered garage during the day).

Own MT BRZ

There is a bad rattle that occurs on both door panels with heavy bass found in rap/hip hop, techno, etc.

#87 07-27-2012 11:00 PM

Own MT BRZ

There is a loud suspension clunk from the rear driver side only over certain road imperfections. There are about 5 bumps in my commute (about 15 miles each way) that ALWAYS cause the sound.

rice_classic 07-27-2012 11:05 PM

own MT FRS

-1st Gear "thump". Sitting a stop light in neutral, light goes green and I depress the clutch and put the car in 1st gear (not fast, just casual) and there's a "thunk/thump". I know nothing's wrong but I've been taking off in 2nd gear instead.

rice_classic 07-27-2012 11:09 PM

-Knee padding. I drive 100+ miles a day and where my knee rests against the center console is hurting my knee.

rice_classic 07-27-2012 11:09 PM

-I may be an odd case but I really like the quality of the stereo and the speakers. I think the sound system is terrific.

How about the engine chirp at idle?

ruskymx 07-28-2012 12:07 AM

Tail light condensation on both sides, but P/S is worse. Link is to my journal with pics

ruskymx 07-28-2012 12:13 AM

Not sure if it's wind noise or a wheel bearing but there is a noise that sounds like a "tuning fork" at around 60mph and can be hear whether in 4th, 5th or 6th

ruskymx 07-28-2012 12:16 AM

D/S Speaker Grill keeps popping up and won't stay attached

ruskymx 07-28-2012 12:17 AM

Idle dip. Link is to my journal where I have a video of it occurring.

Wonder about TPMS. Does the computer hold more than one code so that we can have seperate sensors for snow/track tires without having to reprogram every time? It may also seem logical to include a 2nd set of TPMS since a lot of cars probably have an extra set of tires for one reason or another! Info suggests reprogramming is required, but wondering if like some other vehicles if computer will actually relearn if a new sensor(s) are added?

frsinpa 07-31-2012 12:15 PM

Rattle from my drivers side door (where the door meets the frame) even at idle with no music on or anything.

Fuzzysmith 07-31-2012 12:16 PM

Bluetoothon stock Scion radio foes not handle pairing to multiple devices well at all. You have a stop (and I mean completely) to access the options and manually disconnect one device to connect the other. My 5 year old plantronics headset does multipoint better than that. on the other hand, call quality is great.

I hear it most at idle, but if you listen for it, it chirps at speed too.

schoenberg 07-31-2012 12:20 PM

I own a Subaru BRZ MT.

The rear end of the car crumples really well. :(

Also, an arm rest option would've been great.

Hanzo 07-31-2012 12:26 PM

BRZ MT

AC compressor makes a tweet sound (the same sound like when smoke alarm is low on battery) under load more often than normal. When the car is cold every 3 to 8 seconds, when warmed 5 -15 seconds, when warmed and 100 plus degrees outside kicks on only once in a while. When it tweets during driving condition there is a slight power hesitation.

Slartibartfast 07-31-2012 12:28 PM

FR-S manual owner.

1. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the torque dip yet. This car is FANTASTIC, but it just needs a little more power. 20-30 HP would be enough for it to really shine. And get rid of that torque dip.

Hanzo 07-31-2012 12:29 PM

BRZ MT

Depending on the temperature of the car and outside temperature the shifter makes an audible vibration noise in higher rpms (3500 rpm and up). It vibrates on acceleration and constant throttle. When letting off the throttle it goes away.

Slartibartfast 07-31-2012 12:30 PM

2. TRD/Toyota options, at dealer level, at time of purchase.

Hanzo 07-31-2012 12:33 PM

BRZ MT

Driving in the morning (after letting the engine warm up slightly) there is a faint metallic rattle/vibration from the engine area from 3000 rpm and up. It goes away once the engine warms up.
