Removing square chemical warning sticker?

Hi everyone,

I tried searching, but couldn't find an answer, so I figured I'd ask. How did you all remove that white square chemical warning sticker stuck on the driver's side window?

Didn't want to try it yet in case I mess it up, but how did you all remove it? Can I just peel it off without leaving any residue behind or is there a trick to do it?

Are you seriously asking how to remove a sticker from a window?

If you are serious:
Just peel it off. Then use a rag and rubbing alcohol to remove the glue, if any is left behind.

Do not remove under penalty of law!

Th3rdSun 06-12-2018 07:24 PM

Goo Gone,Bestine, finger nails, razor blade, fire. Any of those will do.

Grady 06-12-2018 07:36 PM

“Asking” for a friend? Kinda like that burning sensation?

If it is on a window, Razor blade then some type of solvent if needed.

I'm curious, what is it warning about?

Carefully, if the windows are tinted on that side.

I think it is a CA thing. Prop 65 which says that any chemical known to cause health issues in consumer products must be labeled and displayed with a clearly visible posting. I'll take a picture tonight and post it.

Never tried razor blade on any window. Won't that leave scratches on the window?

Keep it flat and level and all is good. My guess is it is just a temp sticker anyway so wait for a nice warm day and just peel it off. If it leaves a bit of gummy residue behind use the sticky part of the sticker to pull it off. If it leaves some paper and glue behind grab some GooGone. Don't bother messing around with alcohol or other solvents.

TooSlow 06-13-2018 01:17 AM

Here's a pic of the sticker. Pretty large. Tried to remove it yesterday, but is not coming off easily. Will use the advice of everyone who responded. Thanks!

(My first ever post with pictures. Hope this comes out. If not sorry, I'll have to figure how to import pics in the near future.)

The razor blade is a good call. It's also a good combo for cleaning your windshield.

Razor blade + clay bar + rain-x

Tcoat 06-13-2018 10:22 AM

There is also the plastic razor blade option. Almost as sharp as the steel ones but less risk of scratching since the main use is on glass. Can be bought pretty much anyplace that sells painting supplies.

Sapphireho 06-13-2018 11:52 AM

That must be new. I don't remember having one on my '15.

My last car I bought in Washington and it had a smog index sticker on the windshield.

Jordanwolf 06-13-2018 11:57 AM

If you remove any stickers from your car, your car can and will be repo'd by dog the bounty hunter. It is a criminal offence to remove any stickers from a motor vehicle due to action state amendment law force index highway traffic movement #1337.

Pgh_Area 06-13-2018 01:58 PM

Heat it up with a blow dryer. That'll cause the glue to become tacky and easier to remove. Using a razor scraper ( can be bought at Walmart) scrape off sticker from window. Use rubbing alcohol to clean up residue.

Jordanwolf, I'm ah feared that prop 65 came too late for you …. :(

Do you have any idea of how much lead based paint you chewed off your crib when you were a baby ??

Enough to be able to identify who you are, what you're trying to do, and how to combat such petty insults on one you must kneel before.

I'll have you know, I've acquired my celibate degree in micro-advanced city/state law, and communist federally provincial law. I know what I'm talking about, and I can spot a crime when I see one. This thread is under surveillance.

PetrolioBenzina 06-13-2018 02:36 PM

Stickers warning of cancer are known to the state of California to cause cancer. Eery one of their elected officials should be stickered with "known to be retards".

You have a scraper in your walled, OP. Whip out the credit card.

So, I reckon you don't want to tell us about how much mercury you played with as a kid, by trying to squish it between your fingers ??

Mercury is (mostly) safe to play with.

PetrolioBenzina 06-13-2018 06:02 PM

LOL, Humfrz may have the explanation for CA legislators. They all ate lead paint as kids and were too stupid to figure out how to use a gas can without filling their own shoes.

I'll take care of you. Send me a signed title and I'll come to you to remove the sticker from the vehicle. I'll need to test drive the vehicle afterwards to ensure proper function.

OP, if you do not have a Dremel, here is a reason to get one. Cut that little square of glass right out of the window.

I'll agree that the dermal toxicity of metallic mercury is relative low, I was just thinking of ol @Jordanwolf when I read this::D

"Acute inhalation of liquid metallic mercury in high concentrations causes a wide variety of cognitive, personality, sensory, and motor disturbances. The most prominent symptoms include tremors (initially affecting the hands and sometimes spreading to other parts of the body), emotional lability (characterized by irritability, excessive shyness, confidence loss, and nervousness), insomnia, memory loss, neuromuscular changes (weakness, muscle atrophy, muscle twitching), headaches, polyneuropathy (paresthesia, stocking-glove sensory loss, hyperactive tendon reflexes, slowed sensory and motor nerve conduction velocities), and performance deficits in tests of cognitive function."

:iono: fer sure - I ain't no toxicologist.

Did not have time during the week with work and all, so tried today. It was adhered really tight on the window and it took a little while to scrape a corner to get a hold of it all the while expecting the worst and thinking I may need to go get goo gone or a blade later in the day.

Pulled from the corner very slowly and to my surprise the enitire sticker came clean off!!

Thanks for everyone's advice and commentary! :thanks:

I know it's fun for some to hate on CA, but come on now...

In 2018 California saw it's largest budget surplus since 2000. This was reported on June 15th, which was after your post, but California has been running budgets surpluses since at least 2013. For the last 3 years the California General Fund has run the following surpluses with 2018's end of year surplus estimated (cause we're not there yet.)

2015-16 - $6.17 Billion surplus
2016-17 - $7.46 Billion surplus
2017-18 - $11.45 Billion surplus

Facts can be found here:

But you might find this source more amenable...

On the other hand there's Washington State (which I love btw, Go Hawks since 1980!) which must be doing fiscally AWESOME for its' resident's to feel the need to criticize California's meager $183 billion dollar budget and 10% surplus. So let's hear it.

Maybe they could use some of that to fix the damn roads. The roads in Detroit are in better shape than some I rode across in the Nor Cal area.

I have a bent TE37 and a bent camber plate to prove it :bonk:

The roads are in constant repair. By the time they finish all of them in a region they have to start over (and usually add a lane while they are at it).
