6 years and counting...

On 6/1/2012, FR-S was released in U.S. The dealer in Hawaii was not taking any reservations. It was first-come first-serve. I happened to have 100F+ fever that day, but I still went to the dealer's door hours before their business hour to line up. I was the 3rd one there.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/pictu...ictureid=11401

My son was a year old at that time. It's hard to see but there is my son sleeping in the car seat in the back. This car was able to hold the stroller in the trunk and properly install a forward facing car seat in the back. It was perfectly small. I could reach my son without leaving the driver's seat, which was not possible in other cars.

Years had passed. My son started to have a respiratory system problem because of Hawaii's voggy air. In 2016, we had to moved out of Hawaii, otherwise, he would have asthma. We decided to move to Chicago suburb. Even though everyone told me to get rid of FR-S and get an AWD because of Chicago's winter, FR-S came with us.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/pictu...ictureid=11402

On the first snow day, I got completely stuck in my own driveway. My neighbor helped me and that's how I first talked to this neighbor. We started to talk sometimes and his family invited my family to their dinner one day. Something that would not have happened if I did not bring FR-S with me.

It's been already 6 years since I picked FR-S up. I did not buy another car all this time because I simply did not find any car that's better than FR-S. Now, it's getting even harder. There are so much memories in this car. I don't think I can get rid of this car even if there is a car that's better than FR-S. My son is 7 now. It will be so nice if I can teach him how to drive with this car 9 years from now. There is possibility...

Awesome story! I picked up my whiteout FRS the same day. It was my dream car at the time. One month after I bought it I found out my wife was pregnant with our first child and she never asked me to trade it in. It was our only car for the first few months of our newborns life and we definitely made it work. It really is amazing how practical and reliable our cars are. There were definitely a lot of memories made in my FRS as well. Even though I traded mine it doesn’t feel like it since it’s now a BRZ. It just feels like I did a bunch of mods to it. It’s a car a plan to keep forever. Cheers on your anniversary and continue making great memories with your car.

Neat story!

Just goes to show how versatile the FR-S can be ………

That's really great! I wish my car had a story like this. For what it's worth, a lot of us put our cars through nasty snow (I'm in Vermont) and if you're determined it's a great car until you get belly hung.

Definitely keep it around, your son hopefully will share your enthusiasm and maybe get his own to have stories it tell!

wbradley 06-04-2018 09:32 AM

I remember when you had posted just moving to Illinois, a photo of the car in the open garage etc.

My son was 4 when I picked mine up. Ordered the car the first day on sale here with a deposit refundable in case the actual car looked hideous when it finally arrived. I think it arrived end of May '12 with a white, a silver another black.

Probably NEVER would have happened except at the time I had an xB for utilitarian reasons and so was reading stuff on the upcoming sports car. Also the child sized rear seat, and my age which my wife agreed if this is what I wanted I was mature enough to make that decision.

As much as it would be cool to pass along to my son, insurance might be tough and I'd probably have to put it back to stock which might make another car more practical. Perhaps he could use it "on occasion".

Wonderful. Great thing to read on a Monday morning. Mega FRS points for being able to reach your kid in the back seat, convenient is not usually an adjective used for the FRS lol.

I'm also six years old, in June of that first year I was never so stared at in all my life, and harassed at stop lights with questions.

The first five years of hard core tracking left 100,000 on the odo, and a little lifter noise, but the engine was in good shape (put in forged internals etc. at a hundred thou).

Lost count of all the Direzza's, Hankooks, and brake pads, but the only other cost was oil and gas, the famous r/f overheated coil, and axle issue from hitting the bumper strips. Coil issue never came back, and racing axles solved the ticking prior to axle bearing blow up.

Amazed at how the car stood up to the first five tears of constant redline.

I will never forget the first words my son said when he saw rhe car. He looked it over pointed st the piston badge and said "why does it have swastikas on it?" His next comment was "if you think I am getting into that back seat you are f'ing crazy".
He was 32 years old at the time though.

We should post 6 year birthday pictures of what our cars look like today, warts and all.

Mine is at a body shop since a woman bumped into the rear on Sat night at a drive-thru. Paying a bit to get the spoiler sanded and repainted vs the Plasikote I was using at the bottom and the tail fin properly glued.

Will take a pic at the end of this week.

Mine spent it's bday (5/31/12) in the shop as well. Been there for 4 weeks now. The woman who hit me gave it a little more then a bump unfortunately. Should have in back in another week or two I hope

[QUOTE=finch1750;3094966]KM or miles?

Kanada, Ay, as in Kilo miles,
When the old block was opened, it showed it was good for another 100,00 K, in spite of the abuse but I wouldn't trust the internals at over 300 WHP.

I figured, but I know some like Tcoat have converted to miles in general postings and there was no unit listed didn't want to assume lol.

Still a pretty good beating

I am at 5 years 11 months of ownership. Purchased 07/02/12.

I lived 30 miles outside of town. In June 2012 I saw an FR-S online, called the dealership to make sure they had it, and left my house in a hurry. Only to have the salesman call me a when I was almost there to tell me they had sold the car! THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES!!!!!

I was sooooooo happy when I got to the dealership the fourth time, and MY car was there!!! YEAH!

73373 miles this morning.

So, where's the photos?????

Yeah we in Canada are definitely metric as is most of the world, since 1975 or 76 as I recall. It's actually a far superior system but the US and UK keep hanging on to Imperial measurement with its difficult units conversions and of course the US had to have their own non-imperial gallon just to fuck things up even more.
Canadians typically talk miles or Fahrenheit when speaking with Americans if: they are old enough to have a feel for conversions or have spent significant time in the US or UK.

Now, measuring weight in stone is absolutely fucking ridiculous but so is eating bacon fat on toast.

jordan7831 06-04-2018 07:11 PM

Guys...does anyone know how many years in metric this is?

They started changing it in 72. I spent my Public School years in Imperial and my High School year in metric. It was confusing until they started to actually change the quantities and signs in 76.

The US can't even spell it right.

Time sure flies. Pretty sure it was 6/7/12 when I picked mine up. Got called in as soon as they had some show up. I didn't have a preorder, but was on the list in case others fell through, and I wanted to sit in one to make sure I'd fit (6'4"). When I got there, the salesman pointed at the 2 BRZs and said, "The blue one is available." Traded in my 2010 STi.

She's been my DD for 6 years. Now...well, I'll let the picture speak for itself.

Curious if anyone over 100,000 miles has sprung the big bucks to change the fuel filter as per scheduled maintenance. I only use 93 or 94 top tier fuel so hoping at that point she still runs good.

I picked mine up on 5/12/12. I got a call from the dealership (Friday noonish) she was in and ready for me. I got to the dealership after work, around 5PM. The car was on the showroom floor, with a rope around her. As soon as I saw her I knew she was mine. Had told my wife I was undecided if I'd actually get it. Was getting ready to sign the paperwork and the salesman pulled some BS with my trade, so I got up, said call me when you get your head out of your rectal cavity and left. I had no intention of not getting the car, but wanted to make a point. Sure enough they called first thing in the morning and apologized, so I went straight to the dealership and brought home Alyssa. We've been together for over 6 years now and the honeymoon still isn't over.

I still have the original spark plugs much less fuel filter and I am at 120K miles. May never change it since I have not had a fuel filter plug up in over 40 years. Plastic tanks, quality fuels and being careful that no snakes crawl in the hole while filling it mean the filter should stay fine for several hundred thousand miles.

145k and counting without changing it. I might get to it if I decide to do the Verus fuel flap and have it all out anyway

I'm going to guess a fortune based on recent work I had done by a dealer.

Also shocking this guy is doing it on a full tank.

Interesting note on the spark plugs, out of curiosity have you pulled them out to see the condition they're in?

I skipped on the fuel filter but changed the plugs at around 60k miles... I'm at 94k but not planning on changing the plugs again at 120k...

If I am going to the trouble of pulling them they are going to get changed. I do not have data logging capabilities but all of the normal signs of plugs going bad are still fine. No change in mileage or performance or any other indicators present. When I do get them changed I will ask for the old ones and take some pictures.

Huh...didn't even think about that. I did plugs at like 110k. Had a friend help, since the dealer wanted close to $500 (labor only). They also had never replaced plugs on a BRZ since they hadn't seen any with my mileage yet.

I can't say I have any change in gas mileage, but there has been an issue lately where the car hesitates slightly on initial throttle input. Like I need to give it more gas than really necessary or it gets iffy. Thinking I might just throw fuel injector cleaner in at some point and see if that helps.
