Watching Star Wars for first time, best order to watch?

Yeah I know I haven't seen Star Wars before. Just haven't had the interest until now that I am trying to watch many of the imdb top 100 movies that I haven't seen yet.

So conventional wisdom says I should watch them in the order they came out 4,5,6 and then 1,2,3. However others have told me 1,2,3 then 4,5,6 since that follows the story line better. Any thoughts on this?

OldSkoolToys 05-14-2011 02:48 PM

Watch 4,5,6...then 2...and 3 is ok.

You can skip 1 completely. It sucks....so bad.

Yes, the story sorta flows...I guess...but you can watch the first 3 movies just fine without the newer ones.

ichitaka05 05-14-2011 03:06 PM

I've only saw 4,5,6... didn't care to see newer versions (1,2,3)

iff2mastamatt 05-14-2011 03:10 PM

I've watched 1-6 in a row, and it was great. Though 4-6 came out first, it doesn't really matter which order you watch it if you're in to the storyline. Going from image quality and FX, 4-6, 1-3 is your best bet if that is what you prefer.

Definitely watch the original movies first. There's a lot of cool moments in 1, 2, and 3 that won't seem nearly as epic otherwise.

yes exactly what i was going to say 1-3 were made the way they were with these moments purposely because everyone that was going to watch the movies have already seen 4-6, and as also mentioned before the vid quality is annoying when you watch in no. order as opposed to release order

tranzformer 05-15-2011 12:05 PM

Thanks guys I just rented 4-6 and will start with number 4 today.

RRnold 05-15-2011 12:29 PM

I suggest watching Episode II and Episode III first, Snakes on a Plane, Pulp Fiction then IV, V and VI!

Samuel L Jackson is the shit! :bellyroll:

Wow, do a lot of people hate Episode 1. It was always my favorite even though I'd seen the last 3 first.

Def 4-6 then 1-3. I actually didn't like 3rd as much, too many inconsistencies in logic and too many negative references to current politics. It was like watching a serious but poorly done political satire :iono:.

RWDJunkie 05-15-2011 03:42 PM

Favorite? Really??!?!?!???? Tell me, what was it that you liked about Ep.1 so much? I disliked it so much I honestly haven't watched it since its initial release.

I watch them as follows: 4, 5, 6, then 2 & 3 because they're ok... I guess.

Let's see the podracing, 9 yr old Anakin hitting on 14 yr old Queen Padme :bellyroll:, and JarJar when he isn't screwing around or having a panic attack.

And Qui-Gon Jinn. Everybody loved Qui-Gon Jinn. Most of them didn't read the book series that predated Episode I where Qui-Gon Jinn was a main character that didn't die :( even though he wasn't "there" half of the time.

I didn't mind 1 either, I thought it was well done. Why does everyone dislike it so much?

Haters...:iono:.

tranzformer 05-16-2011 01:16 PM

So I watched IV last night. It was good but not as good as everyone hyped it up to me. Gonna watch The Empire Strikes Back tonight. Hope that is better.

Why is it that as long as someone doesn't like what you like, they're a hater.

Anyways, I can't get into specifics regarding the first movie. As I said earlier, it's been maaaany years since I've watched it. I just remember not being impressed with the story, hating Jar Jar's guts, and I didn't like how it was supposed to be a prequel yet the tech in that movie seemed to be more advanced than in 4, 5 & 6.

Hypothesis proven! Success! :bellyroll:.

Now I'm actually kidding here but I was only guessing haters. But sheesh they're everywhere man.

iff2mastamatt 05-17-2011 02:22 PM

For anyone that doesn't like the new star wars movies, watch these reviews and you'll hate them even more haha

http://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/star-wars/

Most in depth reviews that point out every glaring error lol

I enjoyed the reviews by this guy more than I enjoyed the actual movies

tranzformer 05-18-2011 11:53 AM

So I finished The Empire Strikes Back last night. Better than "A New Hope" but still don't get why people love it that much. Maybe after watching Return of the Jedi it will click for me.
