This intake was designed by AFE which there are already group buys for.
I ordered mine through Titan Motorsports

I thought it looked familiar in the pic. Then I read it's made by aFe. Still sad there's no sound tube delete option!

Afe takeda has now the sound delete on their version

20valvewynn83 07-25-2012 10:22 PM

I know afe has been dealing with greddy in the making of this system but will they be using the same filter?

Looks like they will only be using the dry filter and not the oiled filter offered by afe

20valvewynn83 07-25-2012 10:26 PM

Why is everyone worried about the sound tube generator. Some dynos show a 1whp loss with removal of thia tube and others say it makes no change to the hp. Personally it sounds good in the car. This will help people learn the engine sounds of their cars, which is important in racing.

That's fine I like dry filters when the MAF sensor is right in front of the throttle body.

We aren't worried about the hp, its to clean up the engine bay because some people, like myself, thinks its ugly...

I just don't like the idea of piping sound into the cabin.

+1

Pscylo 07-25-2012 11:03 PM

You can hear the engine just fine with an aftermarket intake, without the sound tube.

I'd rather save 300 hundred dollars, keep the sound tube, and not have to worry about some stupid aftermarket intake costing me power...

Pscylo 07-25-2012 11:10 PM

How is it going to cost power? If you gain 5-7, but end up losing 1 from sound tube delete (calling shenanigans on that btw), its still a 4-6 gain....

20valvewynn83 07-25-2012 11:11 PM

I guess everyone has their own reasons.

Bonburner 07-26-2012 12:25 AM

What's the benefit of dry or oiled filters?

Personally it sounds like a cow being raped by a lawnmower but each to their own.

So it's 1hp more powerful with the tube kept intact?

Currently aFe has plans to allow the sound tube duct to be cut open so there's an option for either way. I want to keep the tube because the engineers put serious thought and resources into implementing this little feature and you brought up a great point about familiarizing yourself with engine sounds. Regardless of whether it sounds good or bad, it adds character to this car and is part of its unique experience. I'd choose that over +/- 1hp.

Alternative: close off the intake and leave the sound tube open the entire engine bay. HEAR ALL THE NOISES.

dabocx 07-26-2012 03:11 AM

1hp is within the margin of error so its not even worth mentioning.

I just want to get rid of it because its unnecessary and looks ugly IMO.

FT-86GOD 07-26-2012 03:24 AM

Well im excited about when they are bring out the titanium race exhaust for 86/brz........

They did the same thing on the LFA and people liked it but here not so much... I like it tho.

86design 07-26-2012 04:24 AM

i'm in the same boat, i've just always been a greddy fan so of course initially i'm opting for the greddy branded version... but i may end up just removing the "brand" label/stick in the future if possible to give it a more low profile OEM look (well more than it already does)

Yeah from the OP and again a few posts below that. But this isn't the final product, I believe.

JoeBoxer 07-27-2012 09:04 AM

They have a header in development as well, I'm going all Greddy intake, header, and SP Elite exhaust.

What's your source from which you saw a GReddy header being in development?

Link me to the post. I scrolled way down to the bottom of their timeline to when they first joined fb on April 5. Every post was visible so I did CTRL+F for "header" and nothing came up. :iono:

Edit: NM I found this pic from April 10. But that's pretty old and plans may have changed. They don't have headers listed anywhere on their official greddy.com site.

If it involves a foam filter, ditch it for something else.

Otherwise, this and the air raid designs are both well done, safe from potential hydrolock, and nicely heat shielded.

"GReddy FRS No pricing to release just yet, but we are also working on an header
Thursday at 2:40pm ·"

from FB GReddy FRS page... someone asking about the header.... also they said they are working on a turbo kit.... i'm excited to hear more details about that

oso_25 07-29-2012 01:37 PM

I guess its greddy products you will be seeing in my car. Hopefully the header looks clean like the sp elite exhaust

They said not to expect the turbokit until early 2013...

True that. I'd rather listen to my music or my company.

mediumbrown 08-01-2012 05:14 PM

surprisingly greddy priced these at $350 which is less than aFe/Takeda
