Hi Everyone,

Thanks for viewing my Build Thread.

On April 7th, 2018, I bought my 2018 Subaru BRZ Sport Tech RS.

The reason I bought this car was because I've always admired it's looks and how it's always been an eye catcher whenever I see one on the streets. The more I get into the car scene, the more I realize the BRZ is the best Starting Car for a beginner modder.

I started this thread so that I can track and see the progress I've done to the car. Plan is to stay NA and probably track it a few times.

Update:

So i got my tints done last week April 25th but i still haven't taken a picture of it yet. My car's been dirty since the last "Spring Snow" here in Toronto. I'm also waiting to have a full week of sun then Will wash and take better pictures.

Also, I've been getting updates that my ShiftSolutions Co. shift knob is now in a facility somewhere here in Canada!!! Cant wait for it to arrive.

Update:

Finally got to install my ShiftSolutions Co. Shift knob!!! Drove around a bit last night and this morning and here's my initial reaction to it:
  • Total Shift knob height was a bit shorter compared to when the stock shift knob was installed
  • Since it's all metal, the shift knob is on the cold side this morning. (At least i wont be resting my hands there unconsciously anymore) :bellyroll:
  • It might just be placebo but i notice my shifts were smoother.
  • Overall really satisfied with this.

:burnrubber:

Here it is installed:

I also got the Candy Apple Reverse Lockout but didn’t get to install it yet because its just a PITA to remove since i don’t have the hammering pin. Broke a few of my allen keys.

Update:

Woooohooooo finally. After getting some blisters, i finally got this bad boy in!.

EDIT (2019/03/25): I notice that at 5000 - 7000 RPMs, this thing shakes like crazy and has this annoying clicking sound. Probably some rubberized tape would do the trick

It's worth it for the better throttle response alone!

I would say for the price, its not worth it if you’re keeping the car stock. Get it if you’re planning to do mods. Thats just my opinion tho.

But it did felt nicer after flashing their Stage1 while I’m stock. Adds a bit of oompf to it. Car felt quieter after the tune but that’s just me.

Muchikori 05-21-2018 02:50 PM

Update:

Finally got to install the inlet tube and the drop in filter! Install was a breeze. Only had a hard time removing the sound generating tube but other than that it’s an awesome install.

I logged my Stock setup + Stage1 OFT tune so that I’ll be able to compare and see what’s changed

Gonna do some pulls and logs later today and make some changes to my tune.

Also, I just remembered i have an old pair of Hella Horns that came out of my previous car. I’m planning to clean and repaint it then install it on this one...

Update:

Just a quick update. First time driving the car after installing the mod, I noticed a quieter cabin (duh) and I also noticed that the engine sounds deeper compared to stock.

My butt dyno did not log any changes so far. Will really need to update my tune files for this.

Oh man. It's been a while since I last updated this thread but here it is! I finally got new wheels!

Enkei TM7 Staggered
Front: 18x8.5 225 40 R18
Rear: 18x9.5 255 35 R18

I also got some Muteki SR45R + matching Locking Lugs to compliment the new setup

And I'm loving every bit of it!

So recently I came across a DIY Ceramic Coat for cars. I got curious so I would like to try it out myself

I've been saving up with Ceramicoating my car for a while now but I always think I could spend that much money for another part.

The product I'm using is Avalon King ARMOR SHIELD IX. It's a DIY kit that comes with all of the items you need to Ceramic coat your Car.

I did get a Discount code that's why I tried it out.

If you're interested, go to avalonking.com and use "JEDI25" for the discount

I think overall, it turned out pretty well:

Oh man 2024, been a while since i updated this thread (2019). lots of things happened since i last updated. but slowly building out the car still.

Here's what's been added to the car since I last posted:
  • Hella Horns
  • Interior Wrap / Paint
  • Grouppe-S UEL Header

i know it's not much for the past 5 years but modding this one is a sprint rather than a race for me.

so far only been modding it with the best mod out there: maintenance.

I am just glad i am still able to mod it even though my priorities have shifted Here's some pics for my future self to look at

Update April 9th:

I couldn't wait until the weekend and had to install all parts the next day.

Pretty much installed these today:
  • BilletWorkz Short Shifter
  • Perring Shifter Bushing
  • MXP Comp RS Catback Exhaust

This is how I went about doing this:
  • Jack up the car and put PB Blaster on bolts (Front Pipe to MidPipe only)
  • While waiting for the PB Blaster, i worked on taking things apart inside the car for the shifter
  • Install the shifter + bushing
  • Remove the Stock Exhaust
  • Install the new exhaust

One tip if you're doing this using only 2 jack stands, Jack up the car one side only (Passenger's side for me) so it's easier to access the Front > Mid pipe bolts. From there it's also easy for you to access the Shifter Mount.

I also took out the old exhaust in one go:
Out with the old

So i read somewhere in the forums that to reduce droning Subaru has a specific exhaust hanger that dampens certain frequencies but is only available in Japan so...

First JDM product from Japan!

While im under there i might as well change the rusty and crusty mid pipe to front pipe spring bolts and gaskets

Probably gonna install the cusco pedal over the weekend

2.2Lude 05-09-2024 04:05 PM

I just installed the Cusco pedal last week and attended a track day. Very noticeable difference. Do yourself a favor pull the pedal assembly out of the car and attach the pedal extender on a bench. Super easy off the car but I couldn't imagine doing it in the car due to the limited space. 2 10's(or 12's, I don't recall) and 1 connector and it pulls right out.

I may add some washers behind the mounting assembly to raise the height up about 2-4mm's as well at some point.

Hey hey thanks for the reply. And thanks for the welcome back! I havent installed it yet but the concept kind of makes sense.

From what i read the stock hangers cancel out the exhaust resonance for the stock exhaust.

The new ones i got cancels out / dampens the resonance for after market exhausts. Im assuming since its a lot deeper. Which in turn lessens the droning.

Part# is: 44066AJ010 if youre interested

Ill definitely put my thoughts here once i install them (maybe this weekend)

Oooooh didnt think of that. Definitely helps my back. Ill add washers as well just so i can get the height. Did you use the sticker rubber thingy that comes with it?

Yeah that rubber pad goes in-between the factory pedal and Cusco pedal has a sort of insulation. Make sure to add washers or something else to space out the pedal stop the same amount you raise the pedal assembly height as well.

My idiot brain thought of putting washers on the mounting bracket of the cusco extender :bonk: this video helped a lot

Thanks thanks i might have to raise it with the washers i have lying around!

Muchikori 05-13-2024 11:49 PM

Thoughts on the "JDM" Exhaust Hangers:

In case you missed it, i am referring to these

So I installed it just now and drove around a few times, i did notice that the drone inside the cabin quieted down a little bit but not enough to make it worth importing from Japan

I would assume it just changed the frequency of the drone to make it more bearable but what I dont like about it was it introduced a different set of noise inside the cabin: Rattle

Somehow there's more panels rattling with this exhaust hangers compared with the stock one. i couldn't identify where it is to the point i already deleted my 3rd brake light and there's still rattle around 3k RPM range

Currently debating whether to put the stock back or not. Might depend if i can find the rattle.

Muchikori 05-13-2024 11:51 PM

@autoracer86 idk if this tagging thing works but i just installed the exhaust hangers

Cusco Pedal Installed

Thanks to @2.2Lude 's suggestion i was able to install the Cusco Pedal a lot easier than if i left it inside the vehicle.

Attachment 224980

Literally had to juggle between the extender and the actual pedal just to align it properly.

I also added 2 washers before i installed the pedal back. and as you can see on the previous picture, i added a washer on the pedal stop just to account for the height change.

Attachment 224981

Overall i think it's a good mod since the throttle is a bit far for me. Definitely need to adjust my footing just so I'm not braking + throttling unless heel-toeing.

Another skill im trying to get is how to heel-toe. hopefully this extender would help with that!
