2017 GR edition cluster mod

2 Attachment(s)
Does anybody know whether the 2017 GR edition cluster mod is applicable to 2012-2016 model??

nikitopo 04-14-2018 07:43 AM

Issue is the extra display on the right side.

gpvecchi 04-14-2018 12:41 PM

So, you have to sell it to me... :-)

vagthomas 04-14-2018 03:36 PM

This has already been installed in a 2013 model in Hong Kong and is working just fine!
I am waiting for some further info from the guy that installed it, if any further mods are needed so that to get full display on the right screen - same as 2017 model!
However nothing received yet. Just waiting :sigh:
In the meantime, I have addressed my request to Gazoo Racing, as well.
Lets see what they will also tell me..

weederr33 04-14-2018 04:42 PM

My biggest question is WHERE to I purchase this at?!

el-guapin 04-14-2018 07:38 PM

I’m also looking at swapping the cluster on my 2017 to the similar one found in the 2018 models. It’s also found on the 2017 860 edition. Have parts numbers for the steering wheel additional controls and the cluster itself. I understand It will need to be programmed. But waiting on confirmation on wether or no it will work on key models as supposed to just push-start models.

Any idea if the faceplate (basically the analog gauges and white piece) can be swapped to a 2017 and reuse the original screen/system?

If you mean if the cluster is reading just from regular obd it is not the case. Not all the sensors are from ECU. There are some sensors that they were added just for the gauge, but I am not aware of the details.

Anybody know what goes into a clutter swap on our cars? Guessing it would require programing at the dealership rather than plug and play?

I would think it would be as simple as plug and play, but I have a hunch it wouldn't be. I would also like to know about this.

Sc629 04-25-2018 05:05 AM

Just giving yall an update. I did some looking through the frs and 86 service manual and it *looks* like when installing a new, unprogrammed cluster, the only required after hooking it up is getting the key programmed. From a different thread, you can even drive with the cluster unplugged but I have no clue if plugging in an unprogrammed one then driving to get it programmed would work or not. So yes, plug and play for the most part it seems but don't take my work for it

nikitopo 04-25-2018 05:37 AM

@vagthomas Did you have a chance to try? Does it work?

weederr33 05-08-2018 04:36 PM

Any more interest in the gauge cluster??

I think people want to see a mock-up with the black side gauges.

I'm interested in one of each set, but would like to see a rough image before committing.

Well the guy who proposed he could make them disappeared. I guess since they weren't officially a vendor or something like that.

The pictures those you post are belongs to me and from my IG
And yes I got it form the GR factory by a car parts online shop from japan
Not like people said that we got it illegally
I been order it and wait for a month before it sent off

All I can said is a gt version is a plug and go
But be careful guys if yours Gt86 is a G version it’s a pain in the ass
We took more than 3 months to figure it out
Cause due to the security system you might not able to start your engine
Even u get the cluster turned on

For further question please follow #at/mt on IG

Please post the steps you took from start to finish here. Also, part numbers would help. It was reported early on that the swap was easy for push -start ignitions but there might be issues with turn-key ignitions(G). No one has reported what was done to overcome that. TIA

For turn key nothing I could help
There would be needing a computer and software to unlock with special steps
My mate did it for me

I took a look at the 2013-16 cars on the tis website. And it seems that the cluster is part of the immmo system for turn key cars. Let me get a copy of the manual for immo settings. But it seems that if you can get a brand new cluster who hasn't been been programmed then a very simple procedure with techstream should allow it to get programmed on a turn key. Now, not sure how this would be with a used cluster .. if once the key gets programmed into the cluster it can't be deleted or reprogrammed. Or if it's difficult to do so. Or if it stores this is virtual "key" in a eeprom in the cluster (Which means a new one can be purchased and clone the "virgin" flash) or if it's internal the the main processor IC in the cluster itself.

seems that push start will work just fine! but if you want to do it with a turn key then buy a new cluster and do the above procedure. Does anyone know were we could but these clusters btw? or even the non GR ones but still have the screen? trying to get the brz part number for mine but cant seem to find it. or anyone have one to sell?

i have the resistor values and the two pins needed to add to the cluster.

if you want to use the steering wheel for the buttons you will need also the clock spring and any extra pins associated with them.

Plug and play for the 2013 push start model? No modification to the harness?

Yes plug and play on a push button start, but you will be stuck on the defaut display unless you sort out the steering wheel switches or alternative switches to control the displays

So if one would also get the kouki steering wheel switches, it should work?

shaynek 09-10-2018 04:41 PM

I have the cluster working on my car and it's plug and play on the push start vehicles. you will need a steering wheel, clock spring, and instrumental cluster harness off a 2017 to be able to use the menus. The default screen shows you miles to empty, mpg, current mpg. It also shows your trip monitors.

Yea like most said its plug in play and almost everything will work. you will need to add the buttons somehow.

im working on a way to add buttons without wiring harness, new airbag, new clockspring, new instrument cluster wiring harness.. etc...

here is the link if you guys are interested.

How far have you gotten. I saw the thread and it seems as though you have discovered how to program the milage. If you get the button working, you’re my hero:respekt:

Wwll pritty far haha. Designed a PCB board and making a 3d model of the blank button in the middle of the traction buttons to add the directional joystick with the back button.

Oh and yeah i managed to mile correct it. does require a eeprom reader and to take the cluster apart.

Allen Poe 09-11-2018 03:45 AM

Would this be the one I would purchase for my FR-S?
