The longest 1000 miles
Just picked up my new BRZ with 9miles on it. Now to wail until 1000miles so I can open this baby up. Do any of you guys have some break-in tips other then what it says in the manual?
nope but CONGRATS! POST PICS!
Advice? Take it on a roadtrip on some back roads to speed up the break-in process and gain a higher level of familiarity with your new car. Half of my break-in miles came on a 500 mile road trip on July 4th with my wife.
Same here. I put 1200 miles on it the first week. About 800 miles to drive her from my home in Ohio (where the car was ordered) all the way down to Georgia for work. The rest was purely pleasure driving. I wasted so much gas just not being able to sit inside while she was sitting outside.
Congrats on the car.
People have different opinions when it comes to break-in period. Here's the thread that talks about it. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5618 |
first 400 vary rpms, don't go over 4k rpm, baby it bla bla bla
after 400 start giving it a little more love and getting to like 6-6.5k 1000 beat on it hard for like one gas tank then just drive normal after that |

I'm at 400 something and I think on my 1001 mile I'm going to bang the rev limiter, because damnit, that's what I bought it for!
Thanks for the reply everyone. Here is a picture of her on Day 1.

Damn dude, that looks like some kind of file photo. Lighting is perfect, I think they call that the "magic hour" Congrats on the gorgeous ride!
Thanks Dude, yeah I waited until the evening. I hate seeing pics of cars in the balzing sun!
Congrats!

Think about it...you've stayed at 4,000 RPM for 1,000 miles and then at 1001 miles, wham here comes the red line. Does not make sense. |

1000 miles is going to be killer for me with my monthly average mileage hovering around 500.
Yeah I am right there with you. I am up to 370 now. SOON though. I am trying to run up to Yellowstone tomorrow.
I just go for random drives to no where during the week and then go somewhere far on the weekend. So far I'm at about 300 miles and it's been less than a week.
Very cool, I went on some motorcycle routes, burned off the miles on some nice windy roads.
Same here... 300 all put on over the weekend just driving locally. Really enjoying twisty roads even though I'm not beating her up on them yet.
OP, congratz! Your car looks beautiful! :burnrubber: |
Thanks for all the tips guys/and or Girls! I'm glad to say I am there now. Did random drives all week and a 350mile "scenic" drive do my buddies house. Ended up taking the 33 past ojai in California, an epic road. Arrived at my buddies with 985mi. I let him take it out and he came back with it at 1003 miles, hands me the keys and says "your welcome" Since then its been Glorious.
Wow! 1000 miles in 1 week!
Hey you gotta do what you gotta do!
The most I've ever done in a MONTH is 400KM. I'm doomed, unless I force myself to get up early and drive it everyday.
Garbage new cars these days, drive them for 2 months and then every light on the dash lights up at you! ;). (I do like the "hoon" icon though!)

no real advice other than keep shifting gears so the engine sees varying amount of load, but as @EvoXDD says you should also up the RPMS with the miles
