Northwest Track Days: Who, Where, When

Anyone going?

I am signing up today. Just popped up, 200 for the day. If you haven't been signed up to run solo it looks like you have to pay extra to have an instructor sign you off.

Changing name of this thread. I will be posting whenever I hit up a track day and encourage others to do the same so we can meet up.

Elliotw 03-07-2018 04:04 PM

I would be going. But I am waiting on my oil cooler from CSG. I will be out a ridge a lot this spring/summer.

NoHaveMSG 03-07-2018 08:20 PM

I'll probably be seeing you then later in the year.

Nice. I will also be at Pacific raceways as well. Also hoping to make it down to PIR as well.

Erok 03-09-2018 06:16 PM

Wish I could make it, looks like it's going to be a great day.

bcj 03-11-2018 11:56 AM

Was a nice day for a drive, so this was a destination to get out for.
No charge for spectating. You do have to sign a waver to get in.

I just watched from the pits. Lots of loud noises and interesting machinery.

NoHaveMSG 03-11-2018 12:24 PM

Sorry I didn't get to talk to you more. You came over when I was trying to check my hot pressure and when I was done you had wondered off.

bcj 03-11-2018 12:36 PM

Thanks. I could see that and didn't want to slow your roll. Was a great day out in the sun.
That's a novelty up here.

NoHaveMSG 03-29-2018 11:50 PM

Turn 2 will be having their first "Late Apexing" day on 4/4. 2-7pm for 200. I am watching this as weather does not look good. If not I will likely be at ORP on 4/8 for 205.

e1_griego 03-30-2018 02:25 AM

ACCO has an ORP day for $175 on April 7. It's on motorsportsreg.

I did not see that, thanks for sharing. I would prefer to go on Saturday. If the weather looks like it is going to be better on Friday I may switch over to the event on the 7th.

I'd be going this season as well. Just installed velox camber plates, rce yellows and SPC LCA on my 2016 BRZ for the season.

Still waiting to get the car aligned, and get new tires.

Prem.

The IRDC is hosting a HPDE/School/TnT on April 21st at Pacific Raceways.

There will 3 groups
HPDE = Lappers
School = instruction and is also a per-requisite for those want to get their Conference racing license.
TnT = session for race cars only.

I'll be keeping my eye on this as the weather for this weekend is not looking promising for ORP.

rice_classic 04-19-2018 03:23 AM

Saturday is looking a lot better. Looks like the sprinkles will be on Friday night with Saturday being dry or mostly so. Therefore I'm going load up the trailer and commit to going.

For lapping folks who like lots of open track time and I mean "open" as in very few cars on track to hold you up, this would be a good event to attend. Only 13 Entries currently in the HPDE group which a whole lotta open track.

Elliotw 04-19-2018 11:34 AM

I signed up for T2 lapping @ Ridge motorsport park 4/28. Hoping some fellow BRZs show up. Need a lot more practice on the Ridge.

Damnit. I will be at Thunderhill that day.

I'd recommend showing up early and doing the "track walk" with Skip or Tom in the morning. They take you around in the facility crew cab pickup and get out at most of the corners to show you the line. It is very helpful.

I was going to show but I am not solo qualified for that track.

No, not that one either. I will likely be at ORP the 5th though for HoD.

mistople 04-30-2018 11:54 PM

I'll be at The Ridge on June 16th, July 6th, Aug 4, and Sept 22. Hope to see you guys at some of those events!

I will likely be out at a couple of those.

Anyone interested in road tripping down to Laguna Seca for the 86cup's event on June 16th? This is a Norcal and Socal 86cup joint event. Likely will be 40+ 86's there. There was 27 86's at Thunderhill last weekend. Would be awesome if a few of us could get down there and make it a whole west coast event.

Track fee is 299/day. LS has a strict 90db sound limit.

panand 05-01-2018 01:49 PM

Alfa club is hosting a twilight track day event at Pacific for $175 - http://msreg.com/twilight2018

Date:* Wednesday, May 30
Time:* 4pm - 9pm (on track at 5pm)
Place:* Pacific Raceways* in Kent

Correction. Will be there the 6th. Should be nice, mid 70's.

MAY 18th - Pacific Raceways HPDE

Last minute addition!

IRDC is including HDPE groups next Friday, May 18th! For those of you that have run with IRDC, it's the same day as the TnT for the race cars so it's a super cool atmosphere and the track-time is cheap - (4) 25 minutes sessions = $180.

Registration is bundled in with the race-weekend registration so just click continue and then only choose "HPDE" on the drop down choices.
https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...-events-758268

Since it's a late addition the HDPE info didn't make on the on the main page on MSR. If you have any questions lmk.

Requirements for HP Lapping Drivers:
  • Must have experience at Pacific Raceways
  • Must be minimum of 18 years old with a valid drivers license (present original)
  • Vehicle must be in good working condition, no fluid leaks, loose parts, missing body parts
  • Convertibles must have rollover protection or hardtop
  • Factory rollover must be structural, no "pop-up" bars accepted
  • MANDATORY morning drivers meeting
  • No passengers allowed (private coaches with prior approval)
  • Long sleeve shirts, long pants, and proper driving shoes
2 sessions before lunch, 2 after lunch.

Another event to watch for is the annual PNW Historics at Pacific Raceway.
Usually over the 4th of July weekend, but 4th is Wed. this year.
It will be June 29 to July 1st to support Childrens Hospital.

I've got a friend who runs his Bugeye Sprite every year.
Wandering around the pits, there's some nice equipment from yesteryear.

kch 05-16-2018 03:25 PM

I plan to hit up some track days soon. Waiting to have Doug fix my car :-\

NoHaveMSG 06-02-2018 10:35 PM

I am signed up for The Ridge on the 16th.

I also have a set of Velox camber plates for the stock struts( I think these also fit kw/st coilovers) for free that I will be throwing in my spare parts bag. There is some damage to part of it so I don't feel good about selling them. If someone wants to order the parts to fix them from Verus they are all yours.

Family in town. But I'll be out there Sunday drifting. Looks like it's gonna be a great weekend.

Was nice to meet you. See you again out there.

Edit: Hope to run with you in B group next time. Best I managed for the day was a 2:04.41

This onboard is super useful for me to learn. It looks like your occasional downshifts to 2nd were really helping you power out of corners. I also apparently need to brake way later in a few sections, and get on the power earlier in others. Maybe those tires just aren't very noisy, but I'm amazed at the grip you have at turn 2. My SX2s were howling in protest and sometimes plowing a bit going up before heading up towards 3 and also around the carousel. You were easily 10mph faster than me before you hit the brakes going in to 8a! Also amazed how fast you got on the power out of 11.

I'll upload some crappy Harry's footage tonight. I was able to shave >15 seconds off my best time set with stock suspension/tires. Track conditions were totally different then (recently dried out track on 50-60deg day), but it still felt like a huge gain to me. With the SX2s and CSG Flex A, I walked away with a best time of 2:09.33. Lots of room to grow.

Great driving from both of you! Nice to meet you guys.

I'm still torn on 2nd for T12--for my fastest lap I obviously downshifted, but it's in that weird area where I'm not sure. If I was still on E85 I'd leave it in 3rd for sure--the extra midrange helps a lot.

Next time I go I'll run some comparisons on that corner to see which is best, but my general practice by the end of the day was to stay in 3rd unless I wanted to pass someone on that last straight.

2nd for 13-14-15 is a no-brainer, though. It gives you such a huge power advantage out of T15.

For 11 and 12, I think I mentioned it when we talked in the pits. By getting on the power early, it induces a tiny bit of understeer that allows me to hit the apex while gaining speed. I get on the gas almost immediately after turn-in.

Edit: I worry that if I get much faster through 4 and 5 I'll run out of 3rd gear mid-corner. Will have to watch out for that if I go back to RE71Rs or R-comps.

Yeah, next time I plan to request B group so I can avoid that dang camaro and the stock cars.

Noted! I was trying both. I guess I always felt like I needed to shift up halfway through the corner. Maybe the 2017+ final drive is different enough to require 3rd for me. I've never driven a pre-2017 gearbox, so I'm not sure how big a difference it is. In any case, I did feel like I was in the wrong part of the powerband coming out of 15. I'd shift into 4th exactly at the blue cones every time.

Ah yes, I remember this. Duly noted for my next outing on the 6th!

That Camaro almost caused more than one serious accidents. I have no idea how he wasn't black flagged for brake checking the RX8 on the back straight. We were going 37mph behind him getting no points. Ugh.

rice_classic 06-18-2018 08:07 PM

Friday the 20th with IRDC @ Pacific Raceways.

If you don't set a tire on track - they don't charge you. So there's no risk to register.

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...-events-259961

HPDE details at bottom of registration page. If you have questions, or are unsure if you qualify to do HPDE with IRDC, please email the Chief Driving instructor.
