Toyota 86 OEM+ build - Moonslate
 

So a couple of weeks ago, I drove past a dealer with a new Solar Orange 86 and Moonslate 86.

I went back the next day for a better look but the Moonslate was already gone.
I couldn't get over how much I loved the color in person so a week later I went to my dealer and put down an order for one for myself and it finally arrived.

I asked the dealer not to detail or clean the car before delivery so I could avoid any swirl marks or damage to it.
I couldn't help myself giving it a quick rinse on the way home :bow:

I'm very much an OEM+ guy.

The first obvious thing to get was the leather TRD key holder and start from there.

I also needed a phone mount of some sort so I went with the Scosche Magicmount Pro Vent in Carbon.
I'm pretty happy with it so far although it is too heavy for the side vents.

An interesting fact is that it looks like Australia just got the Japanese 86 "GT Limited Black Package" cars rather than a separate specification.

I had ordered my first mod before the car even arrived.
As I'm in Australia, it's usually cheaper and faster to order parts directly from Japan.

I've loved KAROism mats for years - http://www.karo1980.jp/

They used to be in almost every modified car that came out of Japan in the '90s and they are one of THE classic JDM mods.
They are one of the few non-OEM+ mods that I must have and the price was absolutely insane.

They are made of woven Shizaru hemp and bound in leather edging.

The quality is amazing and they completely change the look and feel of the interior.

Ooo I do like those! How much were they, if you don't mind. I think AUD and CAD are virtually identical at the moment.

Very nice. The best color available for the 86 in my opinion. Much better than Lava.

OEM+ builds are the best. Beware, wheels will make or break the build.

I’m pretty sure the U.S. does have Moonslate as a color option..I’ve seen them at U.S dealers on Cars.com

I was on the Toyota website looking at the 86 builder but didn't see the option.. I thought maybe it was the "Thunder" color, but it didn't seem to match..

It is the thunder color. The Toyota site uses a photoshopped color that is way off from what it actually looks like.

If we had been offered this in the US (an 86 with what's basically the performance package) I would've gotten this instead of my BRZ tS.

Man we really get screwed sometimes.. and moonslate is such a cooler name than "thunder"

all that makes me think of is ac/dc, and i hate ac/dc.

and now that i think about it, it seems more fitting that AUS would get a car color named thunder..

You'd have to really really like them :D

They were 37,000 yen which worked out around CAD$450 plus shipping for front and rear mats.
They also would not ship so I had to use a freight forwarder.

They are made to order but it was only a couple of weeks wait.

Yep, paint code PBA is Solid Gray/Moonslate/Thunder.

I don't know why but Toyota seem completely incapable of showing this color in their marketing and websites in any market.

Beautiful. All it needs is to move the steering wheel to the proper side of the car and it's perfect.

I'm in fucking love with this color, and I haven't even seen it in person. Heck, I'd love to repaint my car that color (so many dings and bottom of bumper is destroyed), but I'm a cheapo so I'm considering a similar dip + glossifier

I'd also include TOM'S and possibly GR with TRD but that's just me ;)

Toyota would offer the performance package on an AT.. I emailed Subaru Marketing a while back and they said they wouldn't offer the performance package for an AT and only for the MT for 2017 & 18 models.

Car looks awesome though! Love the color!

Toyota offered the Solar Orange here with PP in MT only.
They are offering Moon Slate in both MT and AT.

Time to put fuel in the car for the first time so time for another simple fix.

I was originally going to add the Tom's centre console but I don't want to lose the cup holders now. I might add the OEM centre console lid but that's about as far as I want to take the interior I think.

I decided the boot was looking a little plain.

I always thought I'd get the official TRD door decals if I ever got an 86.

TRD actually do two sizes of decals so I ordered one of each as I couldn't tell which one was the correct size.
They actually appear to be a brushed metal, not a flat silver sticker.
Hard to see in the pictures.

Now I'm not so sure whether I use them or even if black decals would be a better option.
Maybe it's better without them :iono:
