Byron's 13 BRZ DD Build Thread
5 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone, been lurking on the site forever for useful info on maintenance/upgrades but finally diving in and becoming a member. As my first post I thought I'd share my 86 build which is nothing special (except to me). Very casual changes made to the car, no power adders or anything like that. I use the car as my daily and intend to do so for as long as I can keep her up. I've owned my BRZ Limited since August of 2012 so I've run into my fair share of first year problems, some of which I'm still sorting out. Regardless, I love the car and am very happy with her. Current mods on the car are:
Technical: Whiteline Positive Shift Kit Mtech Shift Springs Clutch helper spring delete Berk Muffler Delete Zeta Intake Tube B01C firmware flash (from tactrix) 08 WRX Sway Bar Velox Cam Plate Radium Brake Master Cylinder Brace Consummables: HKS Drop-In Air Filter Sumitomo HTR-Z III Tires Motul Gear 300 in tranny Amsoil in diff Aesthetic: MT Fathead Shift Knob Perrin Drift Turn Knob Yellow fog light vinyl wrap Yellow LED fog light bulbs Shorty eBay antenna OEM wheels dipped B2 Wheel Spacers (20/25) Subaru valve stem caps Custom HU splash screen JDM black interior trim pieces I'll start with day one and carry forward with the story through pictures I've taken over the last five years. |
Parking Buddies
2 Attachment(s)
Nothing particularly special about this day, but she got to sit next to my fiance's new Forester

First Tire Rotation
1 Attachment(s)
This day was her first tire rotation. I was extremely nervous the first time jacking her up and probably spent about 5X as long as was necessary to ensure the jack stands were perfectly positioned before letting her down gently. Very nerve wracking day but built up the skill and confidence to get her up in the air.

Dusk Shots
3 Attachment(s)
Not sure when this was exactly but apparently sometime around xmas 2012 and I wanted to capture some grimey dusk shots.
|
Sound Generator Delete
1 Attachment(s)
One of my first "mods", I followed another member's tutorial and used some Home Depot/Lowe's hardware to rid myself of the growly tube.
|
Fender Shot
1 Attachment(s)
A little front fender shot from one of my favorite Bay Area spots: Marciel Gate on Redwood Road.

Moved!
1 Attachment(s)
One of the first shots I took of my car after moving to AZ. Found a twin to park with :party0030: (dunno if they were happy a fellow enthusiast was helping to protect their car or if I was an annoying "you parked next to me with all these spaces?!?" guy)

Yellowed the Fogs
1 Attachment(s)
Basically my first aesthetic mod, I wrapped the fog lights with yellow vinyl and popped in some yellow LEDs.

Found a Good Road
1 Attachment(s)
Found my (so far) favorite road in AZ: White Spar (Hwy 89S leaving Prescott).

Zeta Tube
2 Attachment(s)
I eventually replaced the intake tube with the Zeta bc it was cheap af and I figured why not.
|
Sidemarkers
1 Attachment(s)
Replaced the ugly stock sidemarkers with smoked led ones and used a liberal amount of RTV in an attempt to keep them from getting water logged. I don't live in an area where it rains a ton but I've yet to have a single issue with moisture

Radar Detector
1 Attachment(s)
I bought a chintzy Cobra radar detector and you know what? It does actually do something! Lol. It's no Escort but I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a little extra situational awareness and doesn't have the $ to drop on a quality unit yet.

Cricket Sticker
4 Attachment(s)
Gave her another wash and a subtle sticker to rep the beautiful injection noises all the noobies eventually post questions about :bellyroll:
Also, my Yakul drift charm makes its first appearance. |
Subaru Club
1 Attachment(s)
For about a semester there we had a little Subie club that would park in the farthest spaces of the farthest lot. Good times.
|
Interior Work
2 Attachment(s)
Did a little blacking of the interior with an MT shift knob, Perrin drift turn knob, door, vent, and wheel trims.
|
Garage Space
1 Attachment(s)
This is about as good as I get at garage space utilization.

Dipped the Wheels
9 Attachment(s)
I performed the oft-derided procedure of dipping my wheels. Clearly, if you know the twins then you know its a cheap mod and maybe that colors how you see it (or maybe not). In any case, I like the way it looks and its stuck fine for almost two years now. I used a satin paint over the dip to give it a bit of a different look (an idea stolen from another member). I didn't perform it at the same time but by now the car is wearing B2 wheel spacers (20/25). Also, right before dipping I got the Prius tires changed out (finally wore them down) for Sumitomo HTR-Z III's. Cheap tires but I like the feel over the stock tires for sure. Also, I had apparently installed my Berk muffler delete as well. Again, a suitable exhaust mod to run for a while if you just want more grunt and decibels and don't intend to pair it with anything else. I may get a catted UEL header in the future but I'll probably swap the catback at that point so it's not obnoxious.

Copilot
1 Attachment(s)
I got me another fur baby! Everyone needs a copilot.
|
Around Town Shots
8 Attachment(s)
Some random shots around town.
|
Wet day
3 Attachment(s)
Baby you make me so wet!!
|
Rear Sway Bar
3 Attachment(s)
Swapped out the stock rear sway bar for the 08 (iirc) WRX bar. I think its a 14-15mm jump, maybe 16. I was pretty happy with the car's handling before but would get the rear end to roll on sharper, faster turns. This bar is a very good match for the stock suspension system and stock front bar. Now I am very happy with handling and don't really see a need to upgrade either bar in the future for daily driving or light canyon/trackday purposes.

Velox Cam Plate
7 Attachment(s)
Well, after five years I finally noticed the cam plate leaking a bit. Not terrible, but enough for me to shell out for the Velox cam plate with the little plugged up hole to allow connection to their AOS kit. Very happy with the product and no more leaks as of yet.

Radium MC Brace
5 Attachment(s)
This quick little mod really stiffened up the brake pedal. Highly recommended for the price.
