Hey guys, let me introduce myself, My name is Phil from Chicago and I just picked up my Argento FR-S on Tuesday 7/17/12. It is now Sunday and I am at just shy of 500 miles. Hoping to break it in before next weekend so I can start having some real fun!

I have been drifting for 7 years now and am part of a drift crew Grip Gambler which was formed in 2003. This will be more of a driving blog than a build thread since I really plan to track and drift the car in stock form to really see the limits of what a stock FR-S can do.

The best mod is driver mod and with my short time with the car so far, I really believe this is a car that will help me grow and excel as a driver, allow me to practice and perfect techniques, get rid of bad habits, and leave me with a smile every time I get out of it.

I see a lot of old familiar screen names on here especially from the Miata community. Some may know me from some of my previous drift cars below.

It's not this.

or this.

You don't need to fit an exorbitant amount of tire under a Miata and I like low offset wheels, just not at the sacrifice of real-world actual handling. A mildly stretched tire will break away less progressively, but the cars pictured can't be driven at highway speeds.

Ah, I see now! Tucked, nice offset and a mild stretch are ok. I was never a fan of the rebarreled steelies too.

Hi brudder!!

mattles 07-23-2012 03:04 PM

awww yeah! Rob's old miata <333333 It was as good as ever in your care, you did the community a real service by BEING A BALLER and keeping his car legit.

Glad to see more miata guys over here.

EDIT: and ****er is here? oooh damn. <3 miatas
if you guys even remember me, dontpassthefence on cr.net - though I dont much anymore due to recent... developments on that forum.

-TF drift knob
-STANCE coilovers 6k/7k
-M2 Hanbai MS-010R-GT wheels with 5x100-5x114 conversion spacer

A few photos from Drift Day 45. I rub a lot but the car looks so great that I dont mind it. After a rough morning, I was able to dial in the car some and was able to lay down consistent runs time after time after lunch. Please enjoy the pictures and the video my friend took with a ton of cameos of me in the FR-S!

No clue, I dropped it till it was at a height I liked. It rubs pretty excessively for most people though Id say though with this height and wheel offset. Rubbing through the plastic liners all around, rear bumper tab has been rubbed through, front fenders are pulling themselves out and taking shape, front markers are getting worn through, etc.

Haha, for surez. We're about the same height too. You're a little lower. I see you're running a stiffer rear spring on the stance coils. What do you have you damping stiffness at?

I'm at full stiff in the rear and exactly half on the fronts. Curious where you're at

Car felt very stable and controllable with the 6k front 7k rear once I got the dampening dialed in throughout the day. I ended up with running full stiff up front and 4 clicks from full stiff in the rear.

I still need an alignment but the car feels great, and I want to save to get the STANCE rear control arms before getting one.

Obviously I am sure there is a ton of room for improvement but so far, this is where I am at. I seriously love this car and I want to continually develop it for years to come to compliment my driving and style! =)

Quick video from the last event, totally forgot to change the setting AGAIN on my GoPro so the video sucks horribly. Sorry! lots of rubbing as well as lots of ebrake use due to the stock torsen diff lol

Interesting. I'll have to try and see how much difference stiffening the front dampers make. I've always ran around half way on the front dampers on my cars. Might be a nice change to the settigs for this car.

I hear ya on the torsen diff haha. Need a clutch type bad. New LSD, more mid range torque, and more steering angle is all this car needs

I love my coilovers. I am biased towards STANCE since they are local to me and are good friends of mine. The car rides and handles great though even at my low ride height and in my opinion, they are the best bang for buck coilovers you can get.

Yup I get the same noise when I pull my ebrake. Completely normal
