BRZ - Full Race EFR 7163 Turbo kit - Clean Install
BRZ. 6 Speed. EFR 7163 Turbo. Tuning.
We just finished a full write-up on a very nice BRZ turbo build that was completed at our shop recently. This was a very exciting project for the client with top-shelf parts, and we are happy that he is happy. Read on to see what parts we used, why we used them, and some small details that added up to a very clean install and overall result. Thanks for the writeup.
I Currently utilize the BW 6758 and i am interested in how the car feels with the larger turbocharger installed. when does the car generate boost? i think it is around 2000-2500 rpm on my motor. does the cars owner have any plans to push the boost up past 20psi? i am interested to see what a 71 series turbo can do with one of these motors. |
The boost control was a little wonky, because we had to run a softer wastegate to keep the boost threshold under 6 pounds for the fuel system. It spools up and was making 6 pounds around 3k rpm.
When we can run a stiffer WG, and get more aggressive with the boost control it should improve. Overall this turbo spools up quick though! The next step for the owner is bigger injectors, fuel return, and turning up the boost with real boost control. Goal is to stay around 350hp, then build the motor in the future. |
Fuel return for 350 WHP?
|
350-ish hp is about the area where we have seen issues without a fuel return.
|
i have 450whp, no fuel return. just a dw 65c and E85 fuel.
|
That's asking for drivability issues imo.
|
nah, it drives perfectly.
fully built engine, gearbox, driveshafts, twin plate clutch etc. |

Nice work, how long was the process?

*Also, we should clarify, it is pressure dependent, so around 12-15psi is where you will see the issue, and on most kits we have tuned that's around 350hp. Quote:

Very nice write up!

What's a setup like that cost?

If you're interested in a setup like this feel free to call or message us and we would be happy to assist! |
what clutch setup will you be using with this? im shopping for a clutch that can handle 500ft-lbs of torque but isnt as nasty as a twin plate.

This car has an ACT HD clutch and streetlite flywheel in it. We prefer and like the ACT stuff! |

apparently that clutch you reference can only hold 270 FT-lbs and the ACT 6 puck can only hold 350ft-lbs..? sorry i just saw you are only going for 350HP.. why such a big turbo for such little power? |

In reference to the clutch - We usually see a clutch able to handle more power than it is rated for. You also want to not "overclutch" a car for several reasons, so it;s better to go a little under than over in most cases. As for the turbo - We actually recommended a smaller turbo for the client's goals, but he really liked the 7163 and wanted to be able to up the power over time. So our next goal is 350hp, after that he plans on building the engine and going for more. |
