GT86 Cb front end...
 

As I'm sure you know, I'm no fan of the 86 front end. It's an afterthought, plastic-fantastic "aggressiveness" that matches nothing on the rest of the car.

Does anyone know if the Cb was actually produced, and if so, can you get the front end? The lights might be an issue, so feel free to let me know about that as well. Is there a 17 aftermarket front end that is round like the Cb out there?

Any members in Japan have any info about the Cb front end?

I saw an 86 CB when I was in Tokyo, just driving down the street by the imperial palace, so they did in fact make them.

Better than whats on there now. Why is it "god awful"? Lack of aggression?

The difference is, one car was made in that style, and the other was not. The front end is extremely out of place and looks not up to date with the rest of the vehicle.

One car is a vintage luxury roadster, another is an affordable sports car made to look like something from a few generations ago, so the comparison is invalid imo and should not be considered in what I think is god awful.

...and now begins the sports car debate.

personally i don't mind the cb front end, it is clean and fits the 86's lines well enough...my only gripe is that the top of the headlights fit don't sit flush with the stock fenders :(

I saw one at Area 86 in Toyota City. I thought that it looked very disjointed compared to the rest of the car. It reminded me of those terrible kits that make a C5 Corvette look like a classic version.

That said, the modern-ish Jag/Aston bumper cover on the rest of the 86 body is a bit too much contrast...the 86 is semi-aggressive modern Japanese while the smooth oval front end is 10+ year old Anglo-European GT. Somewhere in between would be best. The Lexus-look front is terrible, as it is on other Lexuses (Lexi?...lol) and Audis, which is where Toyota stole that idea.. The frontend in Leonardo's post is a good start, but the directionals are an afterthought, and ruin an otherwise attractive design.

Japanese car trying to have British styling. Just doesn't seem to fit.

I don't see anything that would make it better, and all the aftermarket stuff is even more derptacular-racecar crud.

I'd buy one if i found someone trustworthy selling it with the conversion kit. Currently, such a thing does not exist.

Also I would have to find a decent paint shop, which would probably be harder and more expensive than importing the front end. :bonk:

That's not a Corvette. That's a Holden (GM) one ton truck chassis with a body kit made to look like a Corvette. Total poser vehicle for the jackass in midlife crisis who couldn't afford a real Corvette.

Just like that fake Lexus grille is for posers who can't afford a real Lexus. Doesn't matter that they're both Toyota vehicles. It still screams to the world, "I wanted an RC F and couldn't afford it!"

By the way, that Perentti is now kind of collectible because it was so stupid. The fake Lexus grille on an 86 will never be collectible.

There is a big difference between putting on an aftermarket bumper to give your car the illusion of being something it's not compared to wanting a unique bumper that was an OEM option. Stop trying to derail a legitimate thread with your 'opinions'.

That bumper is actually a replica of the 2014-2016 Lexus IS250/200/300/350. RC-F is a whole other echelon.

That wasn't an OEM option. That's the aftermarket AIMGAIN body kit for posers to make their cars look like a more expensive brand in the hope that people will think they have better jobs and more money than they really do.

The main point of this thread is about the CB bumper which was offered from the factory. Obviously you don't like the CB bumper and now you are ranting about the AIMGAIN kit even though the OP didn't have any interest in it.

You didn't strike any nerves, I'm probably one of the few people on here that still has Scion badges on their car. It's just irritating when someone asks a legitimate question and you singlehandedly try to derail the thread because you don't like something.

If you actually made any feeble attempt to pay attention, you'd notice that I didn't bring it up. Jordanwolf posted that pic on the first page (quote below to help you reorient yourself), and I responded to that.

I tell everyone who asks if it's fast "nope, not even". It was never intended to be fast, it was designed for the curvy bits. It's OK to have a nicely-styled fast-looking car that is not fast, but adding a stupid "aggressive" face to it adds insult to injury. Toyota seems to know what they are doing, though, since we see here that the difference between "chick car" and "manly race car" is a piece of plastic.

I'm having a hard time understanding how someone who thinks slapping a Lexus butt-ugly Cylon face on an 86 thinks the Cb is ugly. Perhaps "chick car" is right, because the stock 86 sure isn't a racecar, unless you think you need to pretend it is for compensation reasons. I'd buy a Cb in a heartbeat if it was available here. And then I'd spend the money to have a "chick car" that can leave your manly ass in the dust.

I have to agree with you there. They're both butt-ugly, but the Lexus is even worse for being a poser.

One of the nice things about our cars is there are so many choices and options for personalizing our cars. What looks like Crap to some will ring other's bells. Which is OK. It's all in the eyes of the beholder, right? Just do what you want and enjoy your car.
