BRZ: will a 6 foot ladder fit inside?

Hi guys,

I have been considering a BRZ for quite some time as a daily driver and possible HPDEs a couple times a year. I currently daily a Fiesta ST which has been reliable and fun to drive. It also doubles as my ocassional utility vehicle that requires carrying a ladder and tool box. Will they fit in BRZ?

Is the BRZ a good commuter car compared to the fiesta? I drive about 60 miles a day.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but the "Will x fit inside a BRZ?" are one of my favorite thread subjects on here.

There are options

Define what makes a "good commuter car". I drive way more than 60 miles and it is perfect for my needs. I however do not ever need to carry ladders.

mav1178 11-14-2017 04:33 PM

if a ladder is all you need to carry, just get a roof rack and tie the ladder on it.

CerberusM5 11-14-2017 04:54 PM

First of all, thanks for the replies on my first thread.

I strongly considered a BRZ almost 2 years ago before I purchased my fiesta but the ford’s versatility won out. However, I still think about the BRz all the time. I love the looks and RWD platform. I do have other PT cars but none will fit a ladder which I need on occasion for home repairs. Also, the fiesta or it’s replacment is used
90% of the time.

My primary needs are:

1. Fun to drive
2. practical: carry a ladder
3. Great handling
4. Good HPDE car with minimal mods and modest cost
5. Torquey for daily commuting use
6. Reasonable to maintain and service

I want a car that can do it all.

Unfortunately the roof rack looks terrible the 99% when not in use. At least in my opinion.

Then again, If I can R&R it quickly this might be an option. Thanks

1. Fun to drive Can't be beat really
2. practical: carry a ladder See link to roof racks above
3. Great handling Top in class at the price point
4. Good HPDE car with minimal mods and modest cost Easily done
5. Torquey for daily commuting use Well... not exactly
torque" but gets the job done very well

6. Reasonable to maintain and service On par with about any other car in the price range

About 3.5 out of 5 for your wants.

The problem is the interior of the car won't fit a 6' ladder no matter how bad you want it to fit, so you can choose from any other wagon/SUV or go with a roof rack.

Roof racks take about 5 minutes to put on/take off so once you figure out where it is going the first time it then becomes very easy to put on/take off.

.

Depends on the ladder. Here's a 10ft one that will fit fine. In fact, you could probably get a 12' one in the car (its about 4 ft long)

If he/she took out passenger seat maybe?!

I would suggest that but I've hauled several exhaust systems before in my BRZ, and the amount of interior scratches from just moving around exhaust around is enough for me to suggest not carrying a ladder if possible, as the interior damage would make this a futile exercise.

+1 for hunting down Yakima parts for a roof rack. Saying you can put them on in 5 minutes is being generous. It takes me maybe 2 minutes to put mine on, less to take it off. Two person job to put mine on since I keep the bike racks attached to it, but I can lift it off myself. If you're just putting each end on individually, absolutely a 1 person job. Just put some clear bra where it touches the paint and you'll be good to go.

I wish i thought about these ladder options before i bought the fiesta. Thanks again for all the ideas.

I've transported an entire King Size bed set from IKEA (sans mattress) inside the car. That includes an 82" x 40" headboard...

The car can fit a lot but if someone is doing this weekly (or even daily) the chances of your interior being trashed is very high.

If you did this every week for the last year, then I would say it's more plausible for OP. Otherwise, saying "everything fits" vs "everything fits easily, quickly, and you can drive safely to/from work every day" is wildly different.

He said it was his "occasional utility vehicle," not his every-day work truck. I agree if this is something he is going to do every day, he should look elsewhere.

This is correct.

I’d say transport of a ladder is probably only
6 times a year max.

PandaSPUR 11-14-2017 07:07 PM

I've moved a 6 foot xmas tree in my BRZ before... May have been a little less than 6ft, but it was definitely taller than me and I'm 5'10.

And as for scratches, invest in some moving blankets to wrap the ladder in. I used that for the xmas tree and my exhaust, my interior looks fine. The only scratch I have is when a shop loaded my old wheels into the back seat for me. Guess they thought they were doing me a favor but now I have a small scuff on the rear interior side panel :(

BirdTRD 11-14-2017 07:12 PM

I bought this 5 footer back in May just to fit in the BRZ. (seats folded down of course)

We could've probably saved you 10-15 useless replies if you were only doing this 6 times a year.

Just get some blanket for padding and fold the seats down, you're set.

So it will fit.

Thanks gents!

Alternatively, you can do what I do for occasional large loads...

Was hoping you would bring that up. It is a viable alternative to trying to cram a ladder into the back.

Poodles 11-16-2017 02:48 AM

Or ladders like this
https://img.grouponcdn.com/deal/h5B9...1/c700x420.jpg

There's a TON of room in these cars, especially once you put the rear seats down. Seriously, I think our trunk is bigger than a Camaro's...

Baron_T 11-22-2017 08:38 AM

Yes, a 6' ladder will fit

I was about to load something else into my BRZ, so I had to find out: This is an ordinary 6 foot non-telescoping ladder, fully in.

Move the passenger seat all the way forward, lean it all the way back, pop off the headrest, and then drape a small moving blanket over everything up front.

I've also fit up to five 8' 2x4s diagonally, and (on a different trip) two 2x6s. But that's about the very limit of what will fit.
