Which car mods would you not be without?
Write down which mods you enjoy the most on your car, that you wouldn’t be without!
Could be one or a few. Myself I wouldn’t be without the UEL header, open flash tune (modified) and Perrin 3” intake. Car is much more responsive and enjoyable now with the torque dip practically gone as well. Would never go back to stock, the car is not enjoyable with the torque dip.. |
Auto dimming mirror, wheels and tires, HID headlights (should be standard FFS), and exhaust is a must.
|
UEL and tune for sure; it makes the whole experience much better. another mod, though small, is a back-up camera. I never thought it would be so useful. After driving cars without it, I always feel so uncertain when backing up now lol (I still use my mirrors to check when reversing into spots, but the camera is just so useful to double check everything).

My hands.

Tires as a minimum. Not having a catback also sucks. I hate quiet cars.

My current exhaust setup is too loud on the highway so I don't take trips in it at all anymore, so exhaust is very subjective. Quote:

I haven't done much, but I think convex side view mirrors are a must.
|
Wheels, tires and exhaust.

If the car does not ship from the factory with one Spuds, does that make me a mod? Because if so, I'm not sure I could be without myself. ... Is that an existential question? Oops, wrong thread.
I guess if I can't count myself, then my oft would be it. Wish I had gotten it sooner. |
1. UEL+Tune+ 4.56+ (LSD)
2. Backup Camera 3. Better HeadUnit 4. Tires 5. Brighter Reverse and Interior lights |
In order of importance
1. Aluminium drive shaft + Cusco 4.556 FD (would do this in the first month every time) 2. Full stereo rip out and upgrade (head unit, amp, sub, speakers) 3. Street oriented suspension + bracing (massively improved ride and handling) Dress up bling bits aside, those main ones went the extra distance in the enjoyment of my daily driver. |

Looking back, I should have considered the BRZ more. I pretty much decided Toyota for the front fascia and my belief that this was Toyoda's brain-child, so it deserved to be bought as a Toyota (or Scion in my case, but same thing) Quote:

- Exhaust (Stock is too quiet)
- DAMD steering wheel (Stock is kinda too large and skinny for my liking. It's the only part of the car you're touching 100% of the time, so how it feels is important to me) - SRP gas pedal (Makes heel-and-toe so much easier) - Wider wheels/tires (More grip) - Coilovers (Stock has a little more body roll than I'd like and not enough front camber) |

I agree - headers + tune are a must (& I recommend to every owner who asks me). I also did a FF tune at the same time - and while the e85 is fun + a bit more power, it's really the lack of the torque dip from the headers and tune that made the car so much better day-to-day. I also love my Valenti tail lights :) |
Let's see, my mods tend to be minor and mostly related to cabin comfort . . . but:
1. Upgraded tires 2. Good quality speakers all around 3. Wide-angle rear view mirrors 4. Rear view camera with powerful white LEDs in the rear turn signal housings for backing 5. Does glass-coat paint protection count as a mod? I call these the can't-live-without modifications. There are other things I've changed or installed, but these five are the ones I say, "God, driving is so much (easier/safer/more fun) with these changes" every time I get in the car. I still long for a moonroof or a targa panel. You think I could do it with a can opener? |

Must haves are limited, after all as a DD the car is just about perfect.
What I think should be included by default in ALL twins: (Or all new cars for that matter) Safety Upgrades: 1. Auto dimming rear view mirror. 2. Heated side mirrors. 3. Actual Rear FOG lights 4. Yellow side markers should blink when indicating. (USA issue) 5. Hands free phone as standard. So what abut nice to haves.... Performance Upgrades: None, I like how it drives, do not have an issue with the torque curve. I am not stupid enough to go above 8/10 on the public roads. If I do race it will be on a track where I am more interested in handling over straight line acceleration. If a Camry wants to beat me to the next set of traffic lights, go for it, I will meet you there in a few seconds. Style Upgrades: 1. Clear side markers. 2. Front and side lips. 3. Window tinting. 4. Lowered 1 to 1 1/2 inch (25-37 mm in the 21st century) with the proviso the handling and ride remain about the same. |
Put gas in the car.

Cars are literally undrivable for me without a built in vape |

I should've just left my car turbo + wheels + exhaust.
Why the fuck did I go widebody and wing. Nobody was there to be my voice of reason when I did it. I blame you all. |
In decreasing order of necessity.
- Decent Window Tint - I live along the Texas Mexico border and summers get ... warm. I use 3M Crystaline - expensive, but effective. - Convex stick on side mirrors - Raceseng Topology Shift Knob/RLO slider - SRP accelerator pedal - Diode Dynamics Smart Tap Flasher Relay - Unbearably bright turn signal LEDs |

Can I ask what your OFT tune was? |
-Rear view Camera
-New Tires/Rims -Tint |
1. Phantom ESC
2. E85 Tune 3. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 4. Showa Evolution matched Spring/Shock combo 5. Raceseng Slammer shift knob 6. All the damn appearance mods |
I love the car stock but I have a Greddy Evo GT Catback that I wouldn't want to remove haha

Not saying anything is wrong with convex mirrors. Just pointing out that for someone who is looking for worthwhile mods, the same end objective can be accomplished for free. |

It was a tune from a collection by a guy called WW (can’t remember, downloaded them some time ago) First tried the off the shelf tunes, but they wouldn’t disable the catalytic converter check, which threw a code. Then went looking for ways to get the code disabled as it was missing in my tune-files and found these. The maf-scaling was rescaled though since I have a 3 inch intake with a forester/wrx MAF. I used a java program where you plot numbers from the log and it gives you estimates on how to correct for it. Now running short term fuel trims at most in closed loop around +/- 2% which is a significant improvement from around +/- 8% Long term is pretty much 0% ! |
For me:
Catback Leather interior Armrest |
None. After a fair amount of mods I can say that there are no mods that are absolutely essential on this car. I am only concerned about spoiling the car.
And, yes before somebody points that out, my car is supercharged. It is such a guilty pleasure mixed with anxiety of failure. I sometimes wish I have not done it, sometimes I love it. All that is because this is such a nice car. |
absolutely tires. i straight up wouldn't like this car if i had to drive it exclusively on the stock tires.

Can you expand on why you sometimws wish you didn't SC it? What kit are you running? |
good headlights (I am a headlight retrofitter), window tint and some sort of catback. I need a bit of noise :-D

Self Washing Feature. |
So, coming from a heavily modified 02’ WRX I’m overjoyed with my 2017 BRZ Limited. I’m over loud exhausts, tuning stuff weird misuses and all the potential issues with Mods.
My WRX was a blast to drive, especially at WOT and 21psi of boost. This BRZ is a completely different animal and I freaking love it. I will most likely change out the Head Unit as it is okay at best...honestly it’s a half assed attempt at best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
