Finally posting about my 86!

Hello everyone!
I had been a quiet forum lurker for a little while now, but I finally decided to make an account and start posting myself!
I own a 2017 86 MT in Raven that I purchased in February, and have loved every second of it. Being only 19 when I purchased the vehicle, I had never thought I'd have a car like the 86 this early, but hard work and determination paid off!
Here's just a couple pics of her as she is now. I look forward to meeting new people and learning new things here! (hopefully I got the pictures to work right!)

Welcome to the club. Pics aren't working yet! Fix them ASAP, we want to see them!

At 19, is this the first car you can call your own? If so, congrats, enjoy it while it lasts winter is coming... Oh, you don't get snow. Spend that winter tire money on more gas! :burnrubber:

Crazy early to get a new car like this, grats.

Can't see pics

Hard work and determination at the ripe old age of 19? Did you mow every neighbors yard every week for all of middle and high school? :D
Not every day that somebody can get loan for a $30k car with 1 year of credit history and right out of high school. Maybe a little "luck" or parental help was in order.

29 yo girlfriend didn't even qualify for a 22k loan due to negative equity on her trade-in... Hell, she couldn't even refinance without giving a 50% down payment on the negative equity lol.

So much for having decent (650) credit. I bet she wishes she was this guy

What I was thinking, but usually young guys tend to lie about these things in order to say that it is there own and not get bm'd for having their parents buy it lol. Usually better for them to be honest, let's hope he is.

Got my car at 25 and can only just afford it without eating rice for the next 5 years lol.

mrg666 10-04-2017 04:42 PM

This is another trolling thread. Have fun guys!

kouki.86 10-04-2017 04:46 PM

It was all under my own name, having a job that makes a little under 28k a year before taxes, and a 715 credit score (granted without much history) got me approved for it!
I will also fix the pictures asap!

Tcoat 10-04-2017 04:48 PM

There are several 19 year olds on here that managed to buy the car on their own. Not sure what is so shocking about it.

I think it's the fact that it's not common for a young guy to own a pretty expensive car. People I have met and that know about the car, and know that I have one are sometimes surprised I tell them it's mine

kouki.86 10-04-2017 05:33 PM

It's definitely not the easiest car for me to be paying for at my age, but when it's a car like this, for me, it ends up easily worth the payments. I do get lots of looks when I drive around, some people I'm sure thinking the car was paid for with my parents' money, but I expected that going in, and I'm proud to be able to say that I'm paying for this car all by myself

Cole 10-04-2017 05:54 PM

So at a job where you make roughly 500 dollars per week, you must be putting every cent you make into the car, between payments, insurance and cheap, replica parts.

LOL "pretty expensive car".

wolffbite 10-04-2017 06:09 PM

Congratulations on the new car, from one hard working young adult to another

Your financial decisions and obligations are no ones business but your own. Happy driving :burnrubber:

Hey I don't have money coming out of my ass like some old people may, so 30k is a large investment for me, and is a lot of money when cars can be had for sub 20k

Only a small minority of Americans are well off enough to afford a new car.

Seriously a small minority, I'd say less than 20% of the country is in the position where buying a new car ISN'T a financially irresponsible choice, a few tens of millions of people can do what OP has done without risk. The fact that he's young makes it even MORE unusual.

Yes, from your perspective this is a cheap car, but for a lot of people (like hundreds of millions of people) a $5,000 car is a 'nice car'

#privilege

I sure as hell couldn't afford this car without help from my parents, they gave me a place to live with cheap rent and helped me with college expenses. They didn't put a cent towards my car, but I wouldn't have any money to put towards my car at all if I hadn't had their help and I'd probably still be driving a $1,000 pickup truck.

Nobody does it on their own, someone put food in their belly and clothes on their back and made sure they could read and write and add and subtract.

Congrats OP on the nice car, be careful with your money, it seems like you're living the big life now but one bad car accident or some accrued debt and you could be behind for the rest of your life. Have a safety net, don't let interest pile up on you. Best of luck.

caliprep 10-04-2017 07:20 PM

Well congrats on your car TS.

Also, for the people that are doubting....the 86 ain't an expensive car. I'm sure he's got a co signer for it :P

Okay, this is a thread for off-topic lounge now. I hope someone moves this there.

That does not make it a pretty expensive car. It is just that way to you. As far as specialty cars go it is very cheap. Yes, you could have a nice base sedan for under $20K but you get what you pay for.

Oh and it isn't an "investment". It is a depreciating asset.

Congrats on the car, Kouki! Pay no attention to the bitter people on here. Some are tired of the forum trolls and others are just, well... bitter. I wish I had this car at 19 too.

I don't see what warrants it as Off-Topic. There are quite a few other "Hey look at my new 86!" threads in the General Forum. Just a quick look at the first page shows about 5 such threads. :iono:

Still not shocking. I couldn't afford a new car until I was 40 so I get it. I could hardly afford food until I was 35 so probably get it more than most of you here.
Doesn't change the fact that this particular person managed to do it. I don't care how he did it there is no reason for people to say he is lying or he should not have the car just because they couldn't do it.

From ANY perspective it is a cheap car when compared to many others. If you can't afford it then it doesn't matter if it is a $30K Toyota or a $100K Corvette since you can't have either but it doesn't make the Toyota expensive.

It's really not a cheap car lol. A cheap car is a Honda Civic/Fit which is basically half the price of msrp lol. With the idea that 30k is cheap, then 15k must be free or something to you, pennies in a water fountain.

Golden toilet paper, wish I had the luxury

It isn't a matter of perspective it simply is NOT an "expensive car". Yes, there are cheaper ones but that doesn't make it expensive.

In fact it is below the average.

"The average new vehicle transaction price for 2016 will hit a record $34,077, according to research from Edmunds. That's 2.7 percent higher than 2015, and 12.6 percent higher than it was in 2011, which, yes, is already five years ago. Next year, Edmunds expects that price to jump even higher, to about $35,000."

https://www.google.ca/search?q=averg...n+2016&ie=&oe=

So why didn't your broke ass just buy a Civic or Fit then?

That's cool man. Ignore the haters and enjoy your car. I remember this guy in Newport Beach when I was growing up. Lived in total poverty but had this red 427 Cobra, It was his pride and joy and he was happy. Everyone has different priorities....
