Is the widebody fad ruining our cars?

Maybe I am the only one who see's it coming, I pray to my atheist non-existant God that I am not, that our unmolested 86's will be worth a pretty penny in the not so distant future due to all of the children ruining their cars by mounting widebody kits to them. Have we not learned from the 90's and early 2000's?

Widebodies are TEMPORARY(yet with no return to stock), NOT PRACTICAL(not even a little bit), RARELY FUNCTIONAL(with most applications), UGLY AS DIRT(with most applications), A WASTE OF MONEY(that you could be giving your mother for rent), RICER AS FUCK(Asia rules!), and most of all CHILDISH(tiny peepee).

This scenario is no different than trying to find an unmolested Nissan 240 or Toyota MR2. Those were both amazing cars yet to find one stock would be a rare gem due to the ignorance of people's children.

Anyone want to argue about it?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1de78e8fca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...55a345da5b.jpg

Worth a pretty penny? Not really, not soon anyways, maybe 10-15+ years down the road the prices will level. It will raise the value for those who purchased new and kept it near stock. It only takes one new/better model to come out for early models to be worth next to nothing. Look at Corvettes for example.
Temporary? nope
Not practical? how much practicality does it lose? not much, other than being a sleeper or fitting into tight parking spots.
Waste of money? Not your money.
Ugly? Looks are subjective.
Ricer? Look above.
Childish? Kids are allowed to have fun too.

I don't see it as a bad thing, when those cars go to the junkyard, parts will plentiful for those already in the club. FT86CLUB BABY!

I am going to ignore 90% of your post because you only stated one thing worth of any attention: HOW THE FUCK DOES A WIDEBODY MAKE/NOTMAKE A CAR A SLEEPER????

A stock body would look sleeper in comparison.
Subtle mods. Supercharger/turbo kit/engine swap.
Stock looking other than maybe wheels.

Not everyone wants to be fast. Some people want to look cool/different.

Looking cool and being different at the cost of what??? Ruining the reputation and essentially market value an awesome car that was made for cost efficient performance and that ALREADY looks great from the factory? Buy a different car for that.

Have you thought about this?

Is the cost to coolness ratio worthy?

I don't think you have any idea how much wind tunnel testing costs.
If a person reaches the point where they actually need it, I doubt they would be doing it and still be using stock tires.

Dat front end grip bro!! PRIMACY FOREVER :burnrubber:

Jesus Christ. Do you own a car?

No one uses actual wind tunnels these days, not even the car manufacturers(who would be using stock tires). I use a suite of software that simulates a real wind tunnel to 100% accuracy but with more detailed data than a real tunnel.

There are a few different programs out there. I use Autodesk Flowdesign. And trust me, none of them are cheap kid.

And canards are not primarily for down force. They are intended to divert airflow from entering the wheel well. Hense why a wind tunnel is needed moron. Anyone can create downforce.

Mods please retitle this "Is the widbody ruining the future/resale of the 86" that would be more accurate. Thank you

In 10 years, Craigslist will be flooded with jank 86's that have widebody rivets falling out of them. "It has a boxer engine with a pandem bunny kit and runs great! $3200"

Why pose the thread title as a question for discussion if you've already made up your mind?

Better yet, are you implying that when someone pays for a thing with their own money that they shouldn't have the right to do with it what they want? That they should refer to a dictator to tell them how to live their lives? Why do you hate freedom.

Please post the wind tunnel testing results and other data supporting the functionality your of your home made canards. No doubt the race teams around the world will be interested.

Lol this thread was exactly what I needed this morning at the ungodly early hour I got to work this morning of 430 lol.

Yardjass 09-29-2017 09:22 AM

I've got a few things to say. Yes, the fad of half baked, liberty walk, rocket bunny, garbage "widebody" kits is cancer. I've seen a few custom made sheet metal widebody kits that are absolutely gorgeous but when you're cutting away your fenders and riveting some gaudy afterthought onto the outside, you are ruining the car. Go ahead and screw up your handling by significantly increasing your track width and not making any other adjustments to accompany it while you're at it. The worst is the front fenders, which could easily be made as an entire new part if they weren't so cheap and lazy. It is stupid.

About as stupid as the OP, who apparently thinks CFD is 100% accurate. That is easily the most idiotic statement I'll see all day.

8RZ 09-29-2017 09:29 AM

Meh, I personally don't care for it but far be it from me to tell a person how to spend their money.

It looks like a fish pulled out of water wondering like why the fuck did you do this to me as it's gills open widely because airflow.

Fish: "What is this place, where am I, put me back in the water where I belong, you're literally killing me."

FRS: "Bro this is not air flow, this is recycling bin spray painted black and super glued to my face, get it off you pleb, and why the fuck did you rip off my front emblem and just use dollar store paint to match the colours with some plastic hole covers from home depot."

Hey, remember what I said yesterday about not worrying since somebody else would come along soon? Well this was fast.

No I think it's improving it if anything.

funwheeldrive 09-29-2017 11:16 AM

Over 100,000 twins are in existence currently (with more continuing to be made), how many of those do you think have widebody kits?

Surely far more people total these cars by driving like idiots than the ones who add widebody kits.

Exactly- there is a huge case of sampling bias here... by definition forum members are enthusiasts and modified cars are over represented on forums and at shows/meets/races... but I easily see 50 times more stock frs/brz/86 cars on the freeway than modified ones.

Shinigami301 09-29-2017 11:27 AM

So much bizarre in this thread, starting with the guy who thinks CFD is “100% accurate“ and ending with crazy random Tupperware super glued to the nose of his car.
