Help w/ Coilover Install

1 Attachment(s)
Just ordered Tein Street Basis coilovers that I'm planning to install this weekend (assuming they arrive by then). Anyone with some coilover experience want to help a less-experienced brotha out?

Pics of my 4x4 to encourage you...

Thanks man. According to FT86SF and UPS they won't be here until Tuesday so I'll probably wait until next weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Sounds good to me. Are you set for tools? Do you have an air compressor by chance?

Waffle86 09-01-2017 12:51 AM

No air compressor. I only have a 1/2 drive torque wrench (may be fixing that this weekend) so I can't torque anything down smaller than 17mm at the moment. I have jack stands and a jack, but I'm thinking I should go to Home Depot and get some 2x8s for the front jack point and to roll up on before jacking it up so I don't get the jack stuck after lowering haha.

Yea i found that out the hard way when i put my coilovers on. Couldnt get the jack out from under it hah. I have lots of tools, being a mechanic lol. I'll throw together a bag of stuff. Installing coilovers is actually alot easier than you think. I will say, unless you buy at least adjustable rear lower control arms, if you go low enough your factory alignment adjustment points wont be able to account for the camber.

Waffle86 09-01-2017 11:44 PM

I won't be going very low so I'm hoping not to need LCAs or end links. Probably around 1.5" drop. I don't plan on running anything more than natural camber from the drop.

Remember to rent a spring compressor, the street basis reuse the oem top hats unless you bought extras or adjustable aftermarket replacements.

Coils arrived today. Hoping to install on Sunday. @Zepperly you available?

Zepperly 09-07-2017 12:58 AM

Sunday might be difficult. Head to Kent for more tech schooling. Is saturday possible?

Bit the bullet and did it alone (mostly). Took longer than I care to admit, but it turned out great.

I will be getting one in a week or two once I dial in height and let things settle (maybe 50-100 miles total in commute). Luckily things seemed pretty dialed in on my test run around town and a quick eye test, but I'll probably play it safe and break down to get a lifetime alignment at firestone assuming they'll agree to work with aftermarket parts (I know there's been some fuss over that in the past).

Thanks for the concern 👍🏼

Finally got all that ash washed off her. Still wanting to fine tune heights but I'm loving it!
