BRZ: What would you guys do?

Hey Guys,

I'm planning to pick up a BRZ this August but have given the opportunity to pick up a pre-production BRZ from Subaru Canada at a pretty decent discount.

Option 1: Buy a new 2013 Subaru BRZ SWP Sport-Tech AT (my choice of colour) for MSRP straight from the dealer. $20K down and $380/month for 48 months.

Option 2: Lease a pre-production 2013 Subaru BRZ Premium AT in Silver (NOT my choice of colour) for 2 years at $380/month after taxes with $0 down.

What would you guys do? I'm not a big fan of the silver, but I also want to wait for next years model to work out all the 1st year problems.

I would sit on that $20k you have for the down-payment, and wait for next year.

Klinn 07-19-2012 12:51 PM

That's interesting. I was under the impression that manufacturers would not allow a member of the general public to even test drive a pre-production vehicle, never mind lease one. Liability concerns etc.

Rich1 07-19-2012 01:06 PM

Hmm...this is a bit of a no-brainer to me. I would take the pre-production one (assuming it has a warranty) for 2 years and $0 down over putting a massive $20K down to get the same payment terms and have to hold a car for 48 months.

Color - yes it's important but at that price and less of a wait - $380/month is perfect. There are only 3 other colors in Canada anyway.

1) I would never lease
2) You aren't a fan of silver

I'm a direct family member of the employee.

Myself, I'd never lease a car as well. But given the current circumstances, I want to wait for the next year to fix all the problems and I'm getting an amazing lease rate.

The silver, I can maybe bare with for 1 year and sell off the lease to actually buy the colour/trim I like..

I see where your getting at, from what I see you seem to be attracted towards the lease and getting a less buggy car, if thats the case go for it. It seems like your getting the good from both worlds (get to drive one now, and get to have a less buggy one later)

But for me, I'm the type of person who likes to have the first model of the first generation.. gives me a special feeling and I tend to treat my car as something I can't replace. But that's just the type of person I am.

SWP sport tech for sure.

I cannot tell you how much nicer the interior on the sport tech is.

Thanks for your opinion! I'm kinda of in a situation now where I need a car right ASAP, but also want to wait for a less buggy car.

At the same time.. I can't picture myself driving a silver car for a year..

Go with option # 2 and give me option # 1

Silver is beautiful ^_^

Ziggyzag420 07-20-2012 01:52 PM

I would keep your 20k get the silver one for now it's only two years you never know in 2 years there will probably be a new model out with more features more horsepower I'm only leasing my frs too I have no intention of keeping it after the lease is up not because I don't like the car but I like to have a new car lol

BioRage 07-20-2012 02:00 PM

Re-read it;

Option 2: Lease a pre-production 2013 Subaru BRZ Premium AT in Silver
2 years at $380/month after taxes with $0 down.

Total Spent: $4560 for two years.

After 2 years, you can get into any new car you want.

Eat the silver, it'll grow on you.

Enemies 07-20-2012 02:16 PM

I would personally purchase the vehicle, put less than $20k down and pay more per month if possible. $20,000 down is a lot.

If you can't write it off I wouldn't lease the car. Sure, you get to drive a nice car for 2 years but it's not the colour you want and after 2 years you have nothing left to show for it other than the time you had with it.

20k down and still have $380 payments for 48 months? super high interest rate?

delsol97 07-20-2012 08:46 PM

If you don't take the lease deal, I will ... please give me their number :)

I thought the same... this car is going to run you almost $40k to own :/

sal 07-21-2012 01:07 PM

Purchase. You will regret if not.

OptionJDM 07-21-2012 02:24 PM

Option 1 sounds horrible.... 40k for ownership on a BR-Z. Lease that bad boy because the car depreciate by that much anyway! Silver will catch on!

Thats a damn good deal. If you really end up not liking the auto, I'm sure it won't be too hard to find someone to take it over.

Wow yeah that's awesome haha snatch that up! I'm big on making sure I drive a car the right color now and silver is my least favorite...but for 280 I could live with it!

01s0uljah 08-02-2012 11:54 AM

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take advantage of the lease.. There were 2 pre-production models available and they were snatched up by employees at Subaru.. They take priority over family members and friends :(

Looks like I'll be sticking with my SWP Sport-Tech..

It's a hot seller.. I'm sure there are some people who would pay over MSRP for it :P

Edit: to beat the 2014 wait time.

Use the money that you saved to get it wrapped. Then you can have any color you want!
