The Goal:
To achieve the closest JDM tS build based on the MY17 BRZ as possible.

The Influences:
There others who have gone down this route such as @kuczynskika and @DSOmegaX and I had always been a huge fan of their progress and the dedication to keeping something in-house (in this case STI) as far as mods go.

After seeing the 2017 BRZ STI Sport Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon, and learning about the subtle yet significant MY17 changes which closely resembled this concept - I knew I had to order one.

The 2017 BRZ STI Sport Concept:

The Conclusion:
I'm very excited to continue modifying this car and thread based on the above principals of sticking to an all 'in-house' STI/tS build. I will continue to update this thread with my progress in hopes of also positively having an impact on the car community, especially with our FT86/BRZ/FRS Community!

Thanks for taking a look and feel free to reach out!

Excited to see this build progress! I plan on making similar mods to my 17 just because I love the look of the STI sport concept.

Looking forward to this as well. How does the 2018 TS compare to that JDM ts concept?

One thing I noticed that the 2018 TS will have is the same foglight grill that the concept has. Might be another thing to add to your list!

From what I can tell, the 2017 STI Sport Concept was nothing more than a 2017 BRZ with performance package, special color, 18" STI 15-Spoke Enkei Wheels and STI Sport Exhaust with the foglight grill and some interior bits colored including the seats. It doesn't look lowered by the STI Springs (15mm) so I would venture to guess it's otherwise a glorified 2017 BRZ with performance package and a few add-on bits hence the want to buy it :)

The STI Performance Exhaust was certainly the hardest to come by and the most expensive of the mods above. I also had to fit a 13-16 midpipe to get the axleback to fit as the flanges (as you know) are difference on the 17'. They do make an updated STI axleback but it's almost impossible to find at the moment despite having the part number.

I will say however that I like my foglights. Mind you, I ordered this car back in January. I likely would have waited for a 2018 tS had I known ... but, since I didn't, I'm making it my own!

Apologies for the quality, but you can see (especially with the rear wheel) the 15mm difference. These are on the stock 17x7.5 215 Tires.

Went down a 130mi. mountain pass stretch north of Pittsburgh with a few members of our local club and ended up in Brady's Bend. Just thought I'd share a quick photo I took this past Sunday!

Just a quick note! I ordered the tS Red Trim and tS 18x7.5 STI Wheels successfully! So I'll be able to confirm to those wanting these parts. Here are the part numbers for reference. Pics to come!

28111CA130 - 18" tS/STI Wheels
J1210CA301 - Front Red/Cherry Stripe tS Molding
J1210CA401 - Rear Red/Cherry Stripe tS Molding

Can you confirm the part numbers for the front grill pieces? I like the way the mesh grill looks on the tS model

I like them too! May need to confirm with @trippinbillies40 on a part number. He's been on fire with them lately.

This may help ... https://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_20...10-590-06.html

Dang you definitely took the plunge! Let us know how the install goes! Kinda curious.

Do you have a sound clip of the STI muffler? I’d be interested in hearing it :)

I'll try to get a clip soon! Gotta get these new wheels on too and update the build

ModalSoul37 03-07-2018 12:58 PM

The STI pin stripe looks dope against the white, do you think that will fit the original bumper style?

I don't see why not!

Update:
+ Installed tS Trim Front/Rear Bumper (Only have pic of rear)
+ Purchased the STI center caps for the wheels (install in 3 days!)
+ Installed the @Drambeenie spoiler risers for the MY17+

Clipdat 03-12-2018 02:04 PM

Risers FTW

Finally got these bad boys installed! Pretty sure the car looks just like a tS at this point with a different spoiler and sits 5mm lower.

How easy was it to install the ts pinstripes?
Want to buy them, but scared to mess up considering what they cost...

They are not terrible to install. if you take the right steps to prep, its pretty hard to mess up.

Gotcha. Where did you order them from? I’ve seen some dealers selling them on their websites for a little cheaper than retail.

i bought a replica one through japanparts.com. color is off but I was ok with saving 100 bucks.

gpvecchi 03-24-2018 06:57 PM

Could you please post the distance between wheel center and fender (front and back)? I'm thinking of STi springs, too...

Sorry man, I've been away! Let me get those measurements tomorrow. I do recommend the springs though!

Rear: 2 fingers from the tire to the top of the fender (1 inch)
Front: 2.5 fingers from the tire to the top of the fender (1.5 inch)

Keep in mind that I'm on 225/40 size tires as well.

gpvecchi 04-06-2018 01:58 AM

Great, thanks!

The replica was only for the back, your front pinstripe looks original?
Just checked with Japanparts and they don't have in their site available pinstripes at all, do you have any part number?
