GT86 four door is here.....
There was some talk of a four-door 86, probably just Motoring AU BS.
Anyway, here it is, wearing a Kia badge. Perhaps Toyota could stop selling endless cosmetic variations and give the people what they want, MORE POWER! and upgraded running gear. I'm going to go take a drive in this if I can when it shows up, just because. http://www.caranddriver.com/kia/stinger http://www.kia.com/us/en/content/veh...or_side-driver http://www.kia.com/us/k3/content/med...a-480x-jpg.jpg 86 four-door concept art: http://www.carsreviews2014.com/wp-co...nt-500x229.jpg |
Why? oh why? oh why? it just looks like the thing below:

Looks like a bastardization of what's already really good.

Basically a Korean version of the Alfa Giulia....for less money. |

The car industry goes through these cycles when all cars start to look the same and then it takes someone with vision to brave the criticism and build something with guts.. remember the flame treatment on the Beemers? |
It has a better looking front end then my 86 does.

*No manual transmission available*
Nothing to see here folks, move along. |
Misleading post title.

If only it had been this Stinger concept and not that heavy panamera inspired car.

Probably too heavy to be called a four-door 86. Seems like a budget Audi A7.

Mightily impressed by the MT and C&D first drive reviews, but they always say nice things in the beginning, took a few months for the Giulia to lose favor with the publications. |

Or even the Civic Si Sedan Market. I would jump on a 4 Door 86 if the weight/price/fun factor is good. It could draw quite a bit of folks that love practicality but want A MT like the TSX, G35/37, Civic Si. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I never understood this. A four door 86 is called a Lexus IS.

The whole premise behind this thread is stupid.
We live in a world where auto manufacturers slap turbos, suspension parts and big brake kits on their shitty four door economy cars, and people buy them to race red light to red light pretending they're driving sports cars. Then you have someone come along with an actual, real, lightweight, affordable sports car designed from the ground up not as an economy shitbox but for handling and performance... And idiots want it turned into a shitty four door economy car. Someone should take away your keys. You don't deserve this car. |

Well you should ask that question to the Evo and STI folks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

LOL, the FR-S/BRZ/86 is a well-done "economy shitbox". You should be happy it might be driving competition in the market for more cars that offer a bit more fun than a kitchen appliance, and maybe expose more people to the concept that driving does not have to be soul-killing boredom or cost as much as a house. Butthurt car snobbery from someone who drives an FR-S/BRZ/86 is funny. I hope the Stinger is a success. |
I'm into it. Might go and check it out when it's released, then wait for a buyer's remorse deal
|
So am I the only one that thinks it looks like a cheap imitation of a Prius, which is already an undesirable car itself?

This is exactly how I looked at mine and why I was okay with buying one despite how slow they are. If you look at it as a good, economical vehicle like a civic but without wrong wheel drive and on a much more performance oriented chassis, it is a fantastic vehicle. If you look at it as a good all around performance car, it just isn't, despite how loud all the "slow car fast" morons scream that it is. It still isn't a non-performance economy car chassis that the OEM slapped a big turbo and different springs/dampers onto after the fact so there's that. It has a lot more potential than that, and that counts for something. |

Looks like to me a little like of one of these.... Saw one in may when I was in Paris.
I think the GT86 deserves to be a 4 door as much as an Aston. Which is not at all. https://i.imgflip.com/1t81cf.jpgvia Imgflip Meme Generator |
Beyond the looks (and that's debatable, I see Tesla myself) that is in no way shape or form a 4-door 86. It is competition for the 3 Series, Guila, C Class, A4, etc.
There is a place for a car like this and it is great when we get options like this. The initial reviews look good. But the driving experience will be nothing like an 86 and shouldn't be compared. Cars can be great in their own way if people just stopped trying to make them what they are not. |
Porsche does not have a true sedan for a reason....

I would totally buy a 4-door 86 (stick, RWD, sub 3,500lb).
It wouldn't even need much power (I'd be ok with the existing 200 if the weight was kept low, and I wouldn't want more than 280hp). My reason is that I want to be able to share the car (and the joy of driving/riding in it) with my wife and kid. My current fun car does not allow this, so I'm resigned to driving an appliance for all family duties. Unfortunately, there is only one of me - and I suspect there aren't enough people with similar preferences to make the business case compelling. |

I'm totally into the idea of an affordable (maybe?), Lightish, rwd, 4dr car. The more I think on it though, the more likely I am to just keep the frs and continue driving it until it falls apart. No serious qualms with it, except that I have a rattle in the exhaust that I haven't been able to pin point, but I'd attribute that to not actually getting it in the air and putting the effort into finding the problem. |

http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-cont...-PLACEMENT.jpg Chevy keeps trying, GTO, SS, CTS-V wagon, the ATS, and nobody bites. They're going to try a Buick wagon, but I bet it meets the same fate. If you legit want a fun, rwd, 4-door with a MT, hit up used ATS and CTS ads, may not be a great idea long term but should offer a fun few years. |
