225s on 17s

so, I presume 100s have fitted 225s on the original 17" wheels....I don't have to roll my guards, do I?

Why do you want to have more rubber on same rims? You'll have more flex and you'll lose steering precision.

That is if he is using the stock wheels
A wider 17s wheel will improve handling and steering

Yes, that's why I am asking. He said to fit them on the original 17" wheels.

I have done this, MPS4, works a treat. You will lose a little steering feel, but on the road who cares. On the track it is noticeable though...

I also have 225/45-17 on the stock rim. It gives better traction and softer ride than the stock tires. I can't tell much difference in steering for street driving. It takes more power to slide and I prefer that way especially with a supercharger. It is safer.

Thanks everyone.

Correct. The car works very well on 225 section tires.

Oh crap! Did I lose my steering? Where is it now?

You speak like Niki Lauda, I hope you drive like him ;) I don't

For DD keep it at 215 - more playful and plenty of grip. If you track well then go for it.

"playful" and "plenty grip" in the same sentence is a clear confusion :)

NC Miatas came stock with a 205/45 on a 17x7, and the feel was awesome.

I know these cars are slightly heavier than the third gen Miatas (200lbs or so), but it might be worth looking into.

What are you recommending, getting Miata's or using 205/45's? If you mean 205/45, I would go all the way and install 195/65. It will be so "playful"

Lol funny, I meant the tires. Thought I'd still have my third gen Miata if it was a tad roomier (I'm a good bit over 6ft).

But why stop at 195/65? Could just wrap some rubbing splicing tape around your rims.

No confusion, plenty of grip for driving on the street, as in DD (daily driver).
