CTMP/Mosport GP track times

Thought I start up a similar thread for lap times for the Mosport GP track as Marat set one up for TMP.

So I'll start.

Set my personal best yesterday at a JRP track day with a 1:45.707, specifically lap 7, starting around the 13 minute mark. (Yes there's something wrong with the audio, not sure what happened to the GoPro.)

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ryHC3hftU"]201706-21 - Mike's 2:30PM session @ JRP - YouTube[/ame]

Changes to the car - Cusco rear LCA (though not really doing much as the camber we want the toe goes the wrong way and now waiting for adjustable toe links), Raceseng Cas+Cam plates for OEM shocks (going to dial in more camber with the rear), Enkei RFP1 with RE-71R (245-17-45), AP Racing brakes with DS2500 pads. No engine/exhaust mods.

Know there's a few more seconds to improve.... my other half's best time is 1:44.186, and I think I recall seeing somebody get in the 42s which is pretty impressive. Just a matter of being confident, get it wrong, could be a huge disaster!

wparsons 06-22-2017 05:44 PM

I *think* Andre went 1:39 at the first Ontario 1500, but I can't remember for sure. Another guy (Brad D) definitely went 1:39, but he has some aero and a header. 1:42 mostly stock on good tires should be doable, but it would be pretty ragged.

That's pretty damn impressive. But yeah, how ragged do you want to go.

I recall hearing that Pfaff or somebody had a FR-S and they went flat out on two and four!!!

Skurj 06-22-2017 07:11 PM

Looked back at my times from the last event I did there, (OTA 2015) and I was at 1:44 with lowering springs, 17x9's and 245 RS3's, and a cat back.

If you think that's nuts... watch the radicals. They upshift and run turn 1 flat, no lift at all!

Or the video of Allan Mcnish going around Mosport in the Audi R10 back in 2008. Dindo Capello still holds the lap record from that year... 1:04.09. All about downforce. Those were awesome to watch.

My first time at CTMP GP yesterday. It's vastly different from DDT.
@tanner did your wife instruct a brz yesterday? If so, that was me, lol.

Yup that was her instructing. Like the telemetry system you built!

@mabviper
How did you get the brake and steering input?

mabviper 06-25-2017 01:55 PM

@n0thing
I developed a data acquisition unit for the car. It's that bar you see on top of the vent. I decoded it from the canbus.

@tanner
I'll see if I can lend you one when I iron out the kinks :D

I love the open lapping when you get to see a car with proper downforce take turn 2 at absolutely crazy speeds.

My best is 1:41.9 but I'm dampers, supercharger, 265 re71r but no aero. Car has WAY more potential with the supercharger, I know Derek Yam went faster with stock power.
I spun at the bump on turn 2 at the first apex and no longer have the balls to carry anywhere near the speed I could on 2, 4 and 8 so the car may have a lower time but I don't :(

A couple N/A guys have gone 1:39 for sure, possibly more.

One has a home made rear diffuser, coilovers, OFH/tune and RE71R's. The other has more aero (splitter, skirts, diffuser and wing) and a nameless header.

I'm not really surprised, my optimum lap according to my timer is low 1:37 because before I spun on turn 2 I was really pushing on the corners listed, so it has those corner times logged still but I was getting faster through 3, 5 and last section as the day went on. Compared to my friend who was stock power on back straight my sc is good for about 40kmh over stock which is just insane, car goes seriously floaty over the ridges on the back straight though haha

What speed does a BRZ hit at the bottom of two out of curiousity?

Didn't he run with Hoosiers and suspension for that time?

And before they smoothened out that bit before eight, some cars back then were catching air... then hard on the brakes!

When I was 245 rs3 I was about 145 and with the re71 I was at about 155 as new pavement ended

To give you an idea of how big that "bump" was, if you're familiar of that Canadian Tire bridge they have just before the end of the back straight, consider how high up the bridge is from the track below. When you're walking across the bridge and above the track, where you're standing on that bridge, that is where the old track used to be!

I'm north of 160 on the speedo by track out, I'd have to go back to video to see the speed by the edge of the new pavement.

Andre C did it on RE71R's (or maybe even RS3's) at the 1500, and Brad D did it on street tires as well.

Before the re-graded it that was easily the scariest part of the track.

Impressive!!

I know I got buddies of mine in Mustangs and Vettes that keeps on telling me I gotta step up my game (in terms of hp ... meh whatever), the '86 is pretty impressive on what it's capable at the big track.

Even more impressive is Mohamed in the CRX hitting a 1:41.9!

From the video @Frost posted, it looks like the straight had a larger incline out of turn 5/6 as well that must have been tough on the average car at the time.

In the old layout did turn 8 drop off like 2 and 4 or was the decline from the "bump" that severe?

Such a good track though, deff a must try experience for anyone into motorsports.

Skurj 06-27-2017 12:41 PM

if any of you ever tried Grand Prix Legends, you caught air before T8, not sure how accurate that representation was but it made Mosport my 2nd favourite track in that sim next to the ring. I considered it mini-ring.

Bump. Any updates on lap times at Mosport GP track?

There was a couple twins out at the GP event this past year for OTA:

http://livetiming.time-attack.ca/events/7/results

It's not nearly as easy to get track time there as other tracks, so you won't see nearly as many lap times posted.
